Abstract:In order to promote the application of Zn-Ni-P alloy in automobile, shipbuilding, aviation, and electronics industries, the influences of several factors on the content of Ni and P in electroplated Zn-Ni-P alloy costing were investigated. Thus the total concentration of metallic ions, Ni(superscript 2+)/Zn(superscript 2+) and H3PO3, and J(subscript k), pH value and temperature were studied with respect to their effects on the content of Ni and P in the alloy coating. Moreover, the corrosion resistance of the alloy coating was examined making use of immersion tests in aqueous solution of 5% NaCl. Results showed that the optimized bath was composed of 71 g/L zinc chloride, 101 g/L nickel chloride, 180 g/L potassium chloride, 30 g/L hone acid, and 15 g/L H3PO3, while the optimized plating parameters were suggested as current density of 2 A/dm^2, pH value of 3.0, and temperature of 30℃. The Zn-Ni-P alloy costing containing 13%~15% Ni and 0.7%~0.9% P had anticorrosion life as much as eight times of that of zinc coating.

Abstract:The Ni-W-P alloy coatings have been widely used in the fields of electronic, aviation and anticorrosion, owing to their high hardness, good wear resistance and strong corrosion resistance. Herein, we study the effects of complexants on the chemical composition, morphology and plating rate of the Ni-W-P ternary alloy coatings by developing a near-neutral plating solution with disodium edetate, sodium citrate and lactic acid as complex complexants. The results of scanning electron microscope (SEM) and energy-dispersive spectrometer (EDS) indicate that a flat and dense coating with the W content up to 11.75 wt.% is acquired by adjusting the composition of plating solution. Meanwhile, the plating rate of Ni-W-P coating can reach up to 22.4 µm/h. Furthermore, the characterization results indicate that the Ni-W-P ternary alloy coating possesses higher hardness, better wear and corrosion resistance compared to Ni-P coating. These findings may exploit a broader field for searching better complexants in electroless coating and for understanding the related mechanisms to provide guidance for the design of ternary alloy coatings.

Abstract:An amorphous Ni-Cu-P alloy coating was electrodeposited at different current densities,bath temperatures and pH values by adding some additives in conventional plating solution containing hypophosphite,and the morphology,adhesion,porosity rate of the coating were compared,obtaining an optimal electoplating process. The results show that the optimal process can obtain a bright coating,which is strong in ashesion,good in corrosion resistance,the process is stable,and the throwing power of the plating solution is good.

Abstract:In the Ni-P coating, P-content has comparatively large impact on the coating performance. This study takes high-speed steel as a basic material, taking electroless plating to form Ni-P coating with different P contents. The stereoscan photograph shows that the alloy coating is cellular-structured, and evenly-grained. According to the analysis of X-ray diffraction pattern, the high P-coating is in uncrystalline structure, while the low P-coating is crystalline, the microhardness and abrasion resistance of the costing is significantly improved than the basis material ;the corrosion resistance of two types of coatings are better than the matrix material, and the coatings adhesion is also desirable.

Abstract:A compound brightener agent consisting of sodium benzene sulphinate,pyridine and sodium allyl sulphonate was added in the nickel-phosphorus electroless plating bath,and bright coatings can be obtained from the bath.In order to study the deposition process of electroless Ni-P plating with the addition of the brightener,the surface morphology and microstructure of coatings were characterized using the SEM.The phosphorus content in the coating was measured using spectrophotometry.Polarization curves of the ordinary coatings and the bright coatings in 3.5% NaCl solution were examined and the results were compared with that of neutral salt spray test.The results show that,compared with the ordinary coatings,the cystiform and the grain size of the bright coatings are decreased,and the phosphorus content is increased.The polarization curves and the neutral salt spray test result exhibit that the corrosion resistance of the bright coatings is increased.

Abstract:Ni-P alloy coatings with tunable phosphorus contents are electrodeposited at room temperature using choline chloride: ethylene glycol (1: 2 molar ratio) deep eutectic solvent and NiCl2 center dot 6H(2)O, NaH2PO2 center dot H2O as nickel and respectively phosphorous sources. Cyclic voltammetry shows that the presentence of H2PO2- in the ionic liquid based Ni plating bath promotes the initiation of Ni-P nucleation. Chronoamperometric results indicate that the electrodeposition of Ni and Ni-P alloys on a platinum electrode follows the mechanism of instantaneous nucleation and three-dimensional growth with diffusion-controlled. Surface morphology and chemical composition of the alloy coatings are significantly dependent on the molar ratio of H2PO2-/Ni2+ in the electrolyte. Moreover, deposition potential and time have a remarkable effect on the surface morphology of deposits. X-ray diffractometer analysis indicates that the structure of alloys converts from crystalline to amorphous structure as the phosphorus content in the coating increases. Potentiodynamic polarization measurements show that the alloy coating exhibits the nobler corrosion potential and the lower corrosion current density compared with the Ni coating. The more phosphorus content the Ni-P coating has, the more positive corrosion potential and the lower corrosion current density the coating exhibits. (C) 2012 The Electrochemical Society. Abstract:Electroless Ni–P deposits with a wide range of phosphorus contents (from ∼2 to 13 wt.%) at higher deposition rates have been obtained from alkaline solutions containing tri-sodium citrate and ammonium chloride by controlling the tri-sodium citrate concentration. X-ray fluorescence analysis, XRD, SEM and polarization curves were used to characterize the compositions, structures, morphologies and anti-corrosion properties of these Ni–P coatings, respectively. Systematic UV–Vis absorption measurement shows the presence of a ternary nickel citrate–ammonia complex in alkaline electroless baths, which supports the explanation of a proposed mechanism involving a ternary complex as the discharge species.

Abstract:The electroless Ni-Zn-P alloy deposit was prepared from a sulphate bath. The effects of the process parameters (Zn 2+ and additive concentration,pH) on the plating rate and coating corrosion potential were examined. Tafel plot of the deposit was tested in the mass fraction of 3.5 % sodium chloride solution. Corrosion resistance of the deposit was evaluated by electrochemical impedance methods.The results show that when in the mass fraction of 3.5 % sodium chloride solution,the coating corrosion potential is-0.600 9 V vs. SCE,258 mV lower than the corrosion potential of electroless Ni-P alloy.
A New Technology of Bright Acidic Electroless Ni-P Alloy Plating

Abstract:Being a replacement of hard Cr deposits and stainless steel, electroless Ni-P alloy deposits have good application prospects. The suitable key process conditions of a new bright acidic electroless Ni-P alloy plating were optimized by experimental study and production application. The morphology and crystal structure of the alloy deposits obtained by the new technology were analyzed with SEM and X-rays diffraction instruments. The suitable pH value for plating is 4.6～4.9, and the temperature is (88±3) ℃. The microhardness, corrosion resistance, porosity and adhension of the alloys deposits were tested. The results show that the alloy deposits are dense, uniform, plane and have amorphous crystal structure, low porosity and good corrosion resistance. Moreover, the microhardness of the alloy deposits is (537 HV,) and reach (1 024) HV after heat-treatment.
The Process for Electroplating of Zinc-Nickel Alloy Coating and Corrosion Resistance of the Coating

Abstract:The electroplating of zinc-nickel alloy coating was realized using novel additives and-complexing agents.The optimized electroplating process and bath formulation were determined making use of orthogonal tests.A glow discharge spectrometer(GDA-750) and a scanning electron microscope(Hitachi S-S70 SEM) were used to investigate the effects of the electroplating processing parameters on the Ni content,thickness,and appearance of the Zn-Ni alloy coating.Moreover,the effect of Ni content on the corrosion resistance of the Zn-Ni alloy coating was examined via electrochemical test.Results showed that it was feasible to prepare Zn-Ni alloy coating with good appearance quality and corrosion resistance using the novel bath formulation and electroplating process conditions,and the resulting alloy coating had a Ni content of 9%-13%(atomic fraction).The content of Ni decreased initially but increased later with increasing current density,and it continuously increased with increasing temperature and pH value of the electroplating solution.Moreover,the corrosion potential of the-Zn-Ni alloy coating tended to vary positively and then negatively with increasing Ni content,while the coating with a Ni content of 12%-13% had the largest positive corrosion potential.

Abstract:Electroplating amorphous nickel-phosphorus alloy coating technology was studied in hypophosphite-nickel salt bath, and the performances of coating were also investigated. Orthogonal tests of 7 factors and 3 levels were carried out in which the!7 factors were temperature, current density, pH value, NiSO_4·6H_2O, NiCl_2·6H_2O, H_3PO_4, and NaH_2PO_2.H_2O. The processing parameters for Ni-P plating with optimum corrosion resistance are that temperature is 68 ℃, current density is 4 A/dm2, pH value is 2, NiSO_4·6H_2O is 150 g/L, NiCl_2·6H_2O is 11 g/L, NaH_2PO_2·H_2O is 7 g/L, and H_3PO_4 is 45 mL/L, but the conditions for the hardest coating are temperature is 68 ℃, current density is 6 A/dm2, pH value is 2.5, NiSO_4·6H_2O is 150 g/L, NiCl_2·6H_2O is 11 g/L, NaH_2PO_2·H_2O is 6 g/L, and H_3PO_4 is 50 mL/L.

Abstract:In order to prepare amorphous Ni-P alloy deposit with good corrosion resistance and high hardness from a phosphorous acid-nickel sulfate bath,orthogonal tests with 7 factors(temperature,current density,pH value,NiSO_(4),NiCl_(2),H_(3)PO_(3),H_(3)PO_(4)) and 3 levels were carried out to investigate the effects of various parameters on the corrosion resistance and hardness of the Ni-P coating.Then the optimized processes for preparation of Ni-P coating with best corrosion resistance or highest hardness were established.The results showed the pH value and temperature of the bath had significant effects on the corrosion resistance of the Ni-P coating,while the hardness of the coating was highly dependent on the concentration of NiCl_(2) and H_(3)PO_(3).The Ni-P coating electrodeposited from the bath composed of 10 g/L H_(3)PO_(3),180 g/L NiSO_(4),50 g/L NiCl_(2),and 45 mL/L H_(3)PO_(4),and at pH value 1.8,temperature 65 ℃,and current density 6 A/dm~(2) had the best corrosion resistance.Besides,the coating prepared from the bath composed of 40 g/L NiCl_(2),10 g/L H_(3)PO_(3),180 g/L NiSO_(4),45 mL/L(H_3PO_4),and at current density 6A/dm~(2),temperature 65 ℃,and pH value 2.2 had the highest hardness.
A Method for Electroless Nickel Plating on Aluminum Alloy Surface

Abstract:According to the following plating processes: deoiling → washing → pickling → washing → drying → weighing → electroless plating → washing → drying → weighing. It can obtain Ni-P deposit on aluminum alloy. It studied the influence of bath composition and process parameters on the composition and deposition rate of the alloy coating. Under temperature of 85~90°C, nickel sulfate hexahydrate 15~35g/L, sodium hypophosphite 10~30g/L, sodium citrate 5~10g/L, tartaric acid 1~2g/L, pH 3~5, reaction time 30~60min, load factor 1.0~2.0dm2/L. The microstructure, surface morphology, composition and valence of the elements in the alloy coating were studied by metallographic microscope, SEM, EDS and other modern analytical methods. The size of spherical grain was below 1um and compact distribution. The chemical coatings were mainly composed two elements, which were phosphorous and nickel. The mass percentage of phosphorous was about 15%, and the other one was about 80~85%. The corrosion resistance of the alloy coating was studied by CASS [1] test method, through 80h CASS test detection, the protection class of chemical coating can be reached 5. The relevant evaluation criteria can be referred to GB/T 6461-2002 [2]. The results show that the Ni-P binary amorphous alloy can be successfully prepared by this process.

Abstract:The microstructure and properties of electroless plated Ni-P coating are systemically investigated by employing XRD,SEM,electrochemical anodic polarization curve measurement,and wear test.The results show that electroless Ni-P has excellent corrosion and wear resistance.However,heat treatment can improve the wear resistance remarkably but reduce the corrosion resistance of the coating.

Abstract:To obtain the better corrosion resistance Ni-Sn-P coating and its plating solution,electroless NiSn-P ternary coatings with high tin content were deposited on L245 steel substrate in nine different constitutes in plating bath that were designed on the basis of orthogonal experiment method.The concentration,structure and deposition rate of Ni-Sn-P coatings were evaluated by scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction technique.The salt-spray corrosion test was used to evaluate the corrosion resistance of the as-deposited NiSn-P coatings.The results show that the structure of Ni-Sn-P ternary coatings with high tin content mainly exhibited the amorphous state.The surface morphology of Ni-Sn-P coatings exhibites typically spherical nodular structure.When the concentration of C3H6O3 and NiSO4is relatively low,and the concentration of SnCl4 and C6H5O7Na3·2H2O were relatively high,the nucleation rate of Ni-Sn-P coatings is rather high,and the surface quality is better.The C6H5O7Na3·2H2O agent and NiSO4 salt are helpful for the growth of coatings,while C3H6O3 agent is harmful to the deposition.The best plating solution consists of NiSO4 of 35g/L,SnCl4 of 35g/L,C6H5O7Na3·2H2O agent of 25g/L and C3H6O3 agent of 40ml/L,in which the Ni-Sn-P coating deposited exhibites the best corrosion resistance.

Abstract:The effects of Ni2+ concentration,complexing agent concentration and operation con-ditions on the deposition rate of electroless Ni-P alloy coating on the surface of poly ethylene terephthalate(PET)in an alkaline bath were investigated.The influence of additives on the deposi-tion rate was highlighted.And the optimized plating conditions were then determined.It was found that Cu2+ as a suitable brigh-ter was helpful to the formation of continuous and bright Ni-P al-loy coating on the surface of PET,while guanidine hydrochloride was able to obviously increase the deposition rate of the alloy coating and contributed to retain the stability of the plating bath.
ZINC-NICKEL ALLOY ELECTROPLATING IN AN ALKALINE BATH

Abstract:Zinc-nickel alloy coatings were electroplated from an alkaline electrolyte using direct current,the influences of principal technological parameters on the composition of zinc-nickel alloy coatings were studied using energy dispersive spectrometer(EDS).The results show that the content of nickel in Zn-Ni deposits kept between 11%and 13%and the co-deposition of zinc and nickel behaved anomalously.The microstructure of the optimized deposition was characterized by scanning transmission electron microscope(SEM),atomic force microscope(AFM) and X-ray diffractometer(XRD),the results showed that the Zn-Ni deposits consisted mainly of the 7-phase(NiZn3) and the film was compact and fine-grained.Meanwhile,the Tafel plot measurements proved the coating had good corrosion resistance.

Abstract:In order to promote the application of low-P electroless Ni-P alloy coating with high melting point and good mold-releasing performance in industry,the adding modes of plating solution were investigated. Thus the composition of the added plating solution was determined by making use of chemical method. The effect of two types of adding modes of plating solution(timely adding and on-line adding) on the plating rate and periodical stability coefficient of the plating solution as well as the P content,solderability and corrosion resistance of the coating was investigated. Results indicate that when on-line adding mode of plating solution is used,the plating solution and relevant Ni-P alloy coating have better or comparable properties except for corrosion resistance. It was feasible for the plating solution to keep good stability even after four cycles of plating by properly selecting electroplating conditions. A plating rate of over 15 μm/h could be remained,and the P content of the Ni-P alloy coating could be controlled to be below 4.5% while good solderability was retained.

Abstract:Ni-P alloy coatings were prepared by using five processes of electroless plating. Corrosion resistances of the coatings were compared based on the scanning potential polarization curves of the coatings. Pitting corrosion resistances of the coatings were measured by soaking method. Structure and surface morphology of the coatings were examined by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy respectively. The results show that Ni-P coating prepared by process No. 2 belongs to mixture crystalline structure constituted of amorphous and crystallites, and it has higher even corrosion resistance and pitting corrosion resistance. The optimal technology conditions for the process was obtained through the orthogonal test method.
Effects of Surfactants in an Electroless Nickel-Plating Bath on the Properties of Ni−P Alloy Deposits

Abstract:Effects of added surfactants in the acidic hypophosphite plating baths on the properties of the resulting electroless nickel-phosphorus (Ni-P) deposits on the brass substrates were studied. The surface appearance and microstructures were examined under a reflective optical microscope and a scanning electron microscope equipped with an in situ energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy with which the phosphorus contents were measured. The deposition rate and the corrosion rate of the Ni-P deposits were estimated respectively from the weight gains and losses after a period of time. It is found that the addition of suitable amounts of surfactants can increase the deposition rate up to 25% and reduce the formation of the pores on the surface of Ni-P alloys, as well as enhance the corrosion resistance of the deposits. The corrosion rate of the Ni-P alloys in 10 wt % HCl was determined, The corresponding corrosion rate fits well as an empirical power function having an order of near 1/3 in the amount of dissolved Ni-P deposits, equivalent to the concentration of nickel ions present in the acidic corrosive solution. The corrosion mechanism is discussed in line with the experimental discoveries.
