Abstract:This study presents the synthesis of a series of FeOx-NbOx mixed oxide catalysts for the selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NO by NH3. By meticulously controlling the Fe/Nb molar ratio, we have rationally tailored the proceeding of the main reaction of NO reduction and the side reaction of NH3 oxidation to NOx. The incorporation of NbOx introduced a significant number of acid sites, which enhanced the adsorption of NH3 on the catalyst surface, particularly at elevated temperatures. Additionally, the oxidative capacity of the catalyst was moderated by the addition of NbOx, hindering the over-oxidation of NH3 to NO or NO2, thus preserving more NH3 to act as a reductant for NO reduction. Consequently, the NbOx-enriched samples exhibited improved deNO(x) performance. However, an excessive amount of NbOx led to a notably weakened oxidative ability, which negatively impacted the activation of reactants and resulted in decreased NO conversion at lower temperatures. The optimized catalyst presented >80 % NO conversion and >95 % N-2 selectivity within a temperature range of 250-400 degrees C. These findings offer valuable insights for the development of new catalysts with an extended operational temperature window.

Abstract:Catalytic reduction of NOx with NH3 was studied over MnOx coated TiO2 nanotube arrays prepared by anodic oxidation. When the MnOx was deposited inside the TiO2 nanotubes, the good NOx removal efficiency was achieved at relatively low reaction temperature, such that the NOx removal efficiency of over 90% was always obtained at 150-250 degrees C, and it reached 99.9% at 200 degrees C. However, when the reaction temperature was higher than 250 degrees C, a suppression of NOx removal was observed. This is probably because the diffusion of NO molecules into TiO2 nanotubes was controlled by Knudson diffusion.

Abstract:Activity of iron–copper oxides supported on TiO2 and carbon nanotubes (CNTs) for low-temperature selective catalytic reduction of NO by NH3 in the presence of oxygen was investigated. The addition of FeOX and CNTs synergistically promoted the NO conversion through the adsorption of NO and NH3 and the catalytic oxidation of NO to NO2. NO2 adsorbed on the surface of the catalysts was found to be essential for NO reduction at low temperature, and approximately 90% NO conversion could be achieved at reaction temperature as low as 150°C. Moreover, it was found that the deactivation caused by H2O could be recovered after H2O was switched off, while the deactivation caused by SO2 was dependent on the reaction temperature.

Abstract:Selective catalytic reduction of nitrogen oxides with NH3 at low temperatures remains a crucial goal for industrial applications. However, effective catalysts operating at 70-90 °C are rarely reported, limiting SCR scenarios to high-temperature conditions. Herein, we report a unique MnO2 nanofilament catalyst grown on activated semi-coke synthesized via a one-step in situ hydrothermal approach, which exhibits a stable and marked 100 % conversion rate of NO to N2 with 100 % selectivity at 90 °C, superior to the other prepared structures (nanowires, nanorods, and nanotubes). Temperature-programmed desorption shows a large number of acid sites on MnO2(NFs)/ASC, benefiting the formation of NH4 + ions. Meanwhile, diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy reveals the activation of NO with O2 to form bidentate nitrate/bridging nitrate NO2 intermediates via bidentate nitrate species, triggering the Fast SCR with NH3 at low temperatures. Such an effective, easy-to-prepare, and low-cost catalyst paves a new pathway for low-temperature SCR for a wide range of application scenarios.

Abstract:MnO(2) nanotubes, nanorods, and nanoparticles were prepared using a hydrothermal method, after which the different activities for selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of nitrogen oxides (NO(x)) were compared. MnO(2) nanorods performed the highest activity for reduction of NO(x) under a gas hourly space velocity of 36,000 h(-1) with conversion efficiencies of above 90% between 250 and 300 °C; it also had the highest removal efficiency of 98.2% at 300 °C. From the analysis of X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, temperature-programmed desorption, and temperature-programmed reduction, we can ascribe the high activity of MnO(2) nanorods to low crystallinity, more lattice oxygen, high reducibility, and a large number of strong acid sites. The apparent activation energy of the SCR reaction on the surface of nanorods was calculated to be 20.9 kJ/mol, which favored the reaction better than the other catalysts.

Abstract:A rational design of high dispersion MnO/Mn 3 O 4 catalysts based on carbon-acid hydrothermal strategy was proposed for selective catalytic reduction of NO at low temperature. The reaction mechanisms of low valence manganese coordination and catalytic path were revealed through active site analysis and in-situ DRIFTS characterization. The results showed that reasonable low valence manganese nanofibers cooperated to derive hierarchical mesoporous structure and abundant surface active oxygen. The chemisorbed oxygen specie cooperated with Lewis acid sites accelerated the production of NO 2 in the catalytic process and realized high-efficiency NO removal at ultra-low temperature. Such a facile preparation method of low valence manganese nanofibers structure widens the way for NH 3 -SCR of NO in industrial practice.

Abstract:Mn–Ce–OX catalysts loaded on TiO2-carbonaceous materials were prepared by sol–gel method. Selective catalytic reduction of NOX was conducted in a fixed-bed flow-reactor over catalysts coated on aluminum plates. A de-NOX efficiency of more than 90% was obtained over the Mn–Ce–OX/TiO2-carbon nanotubes (CNTs) catalyst between 75°C and 225°C under a gas hourly space velocity (GHSV) of ~36,000h−1. This activity improvement is attributed to the increase of the BET surface area, and the occurrence of reaction between adsorbed NOX and NH3. Moreover, the de-NOX efficiency was increased to 99.6% by adding 250ppm SO2 between 100°C and 250°C.

Abstract:Nanoflaky MnO(x) on carbon nanotubes (nf-MnO(x)@CNTs) was in situ synthesized by a facile chemical bath deposition route for low-temperature selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NO with NH₃. This catalyst was mainly characterized by the techniques of X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), N₂ adsorption-desorption analysis, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), H₂ temperature-programmed reduction (H₂-TPR) and NH₃ temperature-programmed desorption (NH₃-TPD). The SEM, TEM, XRD results and N₂ adsorption-desorption analysis indicated that the CNTs were surrounded by nanoflaky MnO(x) and the obtained catalyst exhibited a large surface area as well. Compared with the MnO(x)/CNT and MnO(x)/TiO₂ catalysts prepared by an impregnation method, the nf-MnO(x)@CNTs presented better NH₃-SCR activity at low temperature and a more extensive operating temperature window. The XPS results showed that a higher atomic concentration of Mn(4+) and more chemisorbed oxygen species existed on the surface of CNTs for nf-MnO(x)@CNTs. The H₂-TPR and NH₃-TPD results demonstrated that the nf-MnO(x)@CNTs possessed stronger reducing ability, more acid sites and stronger acid strength than the other two catalysts. Based on the above mentioned favourable properties, the nf-MnO(x)@CNT catalyst has an excellent performance in the low-temperature SCR of NO to N₂ with NH₃. In addition, the nf-MnO(x)@CNT catalyst also presented favourable stability and H₂O resistance.

Abstract:In this paper, we report the fabrication of cobalt-doped de-NOx catalyst by pyrolyzing an analogous metal-organic framework-74 (MOF-74) containing Fe & Mn. The resulted catalyst exhibits distinctive microstructures of manganese, cobalt, and iron immobilized on N-doped carbon nanotubes (CNTs). It is found through experiments that the trimetallic catalyst Fe2Mn1Co0.5/CNTs-50 has the best NH3-selective catalytic reduction (SCR) performance. The Fe2Mn1Co0.5/CNTs-50 exhibited excellent water and sulfur resistance and good stability under the harsh gas environment of 250 °C and/or 170 °C, NO = NH3 = 1,000 ppm, 8 vol.% O2, 20 vol.% H2O, 1,000 ppm SO2, and gas hourly space velocity (GHSV) = 75,000 h−1. The de-NOx conversion was maintained about 55% and 25% after 192 h. The water and sulfur resistance performance were much higher than commercial vanadium series catalyst. The highly water and sulfur resistance performance may be attributed to the unique core-shell microstructure and the synergistic effect of manganese, cobalt, and iron which helps reduce the formation for byproducts (NH4HSO4). This study may promote to explore the development of a high stability catalyst for low-temperature selective catalytic reduction of NOx with NH3.

Abstract:MnOx-SnO2 composite oxides prepared by a redox coprecipitation route were tested in selective catalytic reduction of NO by NH3 at low temperatures. The results showed that the MnOx-SnO2 catalyst with a Mn/(Mn+Sn) molar ratio of 75% exhibited the best performance, on which NO conversion of 100% could be achieved at temperatures of 120–200 °C. The characterization results of N2 adsorption-desorption, X-ray diffraction, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy indicated that the higher surface area, the formation of solid solution between manganese and tin oxides, and the high oxidation state manganese species were responsible for the high catalytic activity of the MnOx-SnO2 catalyst.

Abstract:Series of Fe-modified MnO2 catalysts were prepared to improve low-temperature NO oxidation. Introduction of Fe3+ resulted in a phase transformation from α-MnO2 to ε-MnO2. Hexagonal Fe0.32MnO2 exhibited the highest activity with the lowest T50 of 156 °C and the maximum NO conversion of 80% at 250 °C. It also possessed the best reducibility and abundant readily available oxygen species, which facilitated the oxidation of NO. Major differences in the NO oxidation reaction route between α-MnO2 and Fe0.32MnO2 were the adsorption sites and the type of intermediates. The synergetic effect between Fe and Mn enhanced the activation of NO and O2.

Abstract:The MnOx and CeOx were in situ supported on carbon nanotubes (CNTs) by a poly(sodium 4-styrenesulfonate) assisted reflux route for the low-temperature selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NO with NH3. X-Ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), high-resolution TEM (HRTEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), H-2 temperature-programmed reduction (H-2-TPR) and NH3 temperature-programmed desorption (NH3-TPD) have been used to elucidate the structure and surface properties of the obtained catalysts. It was found that the in situ prepared catalyst exhibited the highest activity and the most extensive operating-temperature window, compared to the catalysts prepared by impregnation or mechanically mixed methods. The XRD and TEM results indicated that the manganese oxide and cerium oxide species had a good dispersion on the CNT surface. The XPS results demonstrated that the higher atomic concentration of Mn existed on the surface of CNTs and the more chemisorbed oxygen species exist. The H-2-TPR results suggested that there was a strong interaction between the manganese oxide and cerium oxide on the surface of CNTs. The NH3-TPD results demonstrated that the catalysts presented a larger acid amount and stronger acid strength. In addition, the obtained catalysts exhibited much higher SO2-tolerance and improved the water-resistance as compared to that prepared by impregnation or mechanically mixed methods.
Low Temperature Selective Catalytic Reduction of NO over Manganese Supported on TiO2 Nanotubes

Abstract:Titanate nanotubes were synthesized hydrothermally from commercial TiO2 nanoparticles in the presence of NaOH; after calcination at 400°C, TiO2 nanotubes were obtained, which were used as the support to prepare manganese catalyst (MnOx/TiNT) by wet impregnation for the low-temperature selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NO. The results of Brunauer, Emmett and Teller study, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and thermogravimetric measurements showed that TiO2 nanotubes exist in a well-defined TiO2 anatase phase after calcination at 400°C and that manganese particles are highly dispersed on the wall of TiO2 nanotubes. The effects of active-component loading, space velocity, oxygen content, [NH3]/[NO] ratio, and NO concentration on the SCR performance of MnOx/TiNT were investigated in a simulated flue gas. Under the reaction conditions of 150°C, [NH3]/[NO] of 1.2, [O2] of 3%, [NO] of 0.06%, gas hour space velocity of 23613.8 h−1, and Mn loading of 5–15%, NO conversion exceeds 95%. The catalyst is deactivated in the presence of H2O at 180°C, but its activity can be recovered almost completely by cutting off H2O. Moreover, higher resistance to H2O is observed at higher temperatures. The presence of SO2 can also deactivate the catalyst gradually; however, the catalyst shows better resistance to SO2 in the presence of H2O than in its absence. The SCR activity of the MnOx/TiNT catalyst that is deactivated by SO2 increases gradually after cutting off H2O and SO2 but cannot be restored to its initial level.
Low Temperature Selective Catalytic Reduction Of No With Nh3 Over Mn-Fe Spinel: Performance, Mechanism And Kinetic Study

Abstract:(Fe3-xMnx)(1-delta)O-4 was synthesized using a co-precipitation method and then developed as a catalyst for the low temperature selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NO with NH3. The SCR activity of (Fe3-xMnx)(1-delta)O-4 was clearly enhanced with the increase of Mn content. The results of in situ DRIFTS study demonstrated that both the Eley-Rideal mechanism (i.e. reaction of activated ammonia with gaseous NO) and the Langmuir-Hinshelwood mechanism (i.e. reaction of adsorbed ammonia species with adsorbed NOx species) might happen during the SCR reaction over (Fe3-xMnx)(1-delta)O-4. According to the kinetic analysis, the respective contribution of the Langmuir-Hinshelwood mechanism and the Eley-Rideal mechanism on the SCR reaction was studied. Only the adsorption of NO + O-2 on (Fe2.8Mn0.2)(1-delta)O-4 was promoted, so the Langmuir-Hinshelwood mechanism predominated over NO conversion on (Fe2.8Mn0.2)(1-delta)O-4 especially at lower temperatures. Both the adsorption of NO + O-2 and the adsorption of NH3 on (Fe2.5Mn0.5)(1-delta)O-4 were obviously promoted, so NO conversion on (Fe2.5Mn0.5)(1-delta)O-4 mainly followed the Eley-Rideal mechanism especially at higher temperatures. Both the nitrate route and the over-oxidization of adsorbed ammonia species contributed to the formation of N2O on (Fe2.8Mn0.2)(1-delta)O-4 above 140 degrees C. However, the formation of N2O on (Fe2.5Mn0.5)(1-delta)O-4 mainly resulted from the over-oxidization of adsorbed ammonia species. Although the activity of (Fe2.5Mn0.5)(1-delta)O-4 was suppressed in the presence of H2O and SO2. the deactivated catalyst can be regenerated after the water washing. (C) 2011 Elsevier B.V. Abstract:Metal oxide/active carbon/ceramic (MOx/AC/C) monolithic catalysts were prepared by impregnation method for selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NOx with NH3 at low-temperature, and they also had been characterized by elemental analysis, N2-BET, XRD, SEM and NO-TPD. The adsorption capability of the monolithic catalyst was greatly enhanced due to the attached active carbon. An ultrasonic treatment was used to improve the impregnation process, and which can increase their catalytic activities. More than 90% NOx conversion could be achieved over the Mn-based monolithic catalysts at low-temperature, and which could be improved further by doping Ce, from 30% to 78% at 100°C. Mn–Fe–Ce and Mn–V–Ce monolithic catalysts had better tolerance to SO2 than Mn or Mn–Ce monolithic catalysts.

Abstract:Nanometer particles composed of manganese oxides (Nano-MnO(x)), which prepared by rheological phase reaction method, show superior low-temperature SCR activity for NO with NH3 in the presence of excess O2. In experiments, the NO conversion is 98.25% at 80 degrees C, and nearly 100% NO could be converted in 100 - 150 degrees C. Due to the reason of competing adsorption, H2O has a slight impact on the activity and the deactivation of SO2 is reversible. The experiments implied that the superior low-temperature catalytic activity of Nano-MnO(x) was mainly due to its high BET specific areas and poor crystallinity.

Abstract:A series of V 2 O 5 –MnO X /TiO 2 -CNTs, V 2 O 5 /TiO 2 -CNTs, and MnO X /TiO 2 -CNTs catalysts were synthesized via solvothermal method and their NO X removal activities were studied. A catalytic performance improvement was observed over catalysts prepared by mechanical mixing MnO X /TiO 2 -CNTs and V 2 O 5 /TiO 2 -CNTs. XRD, SEM, EDS, TPD, TPR, and BET were employed to analyze the improvement which is ascribed to the separation of Mn and V as well as the increase in reducibility and acidic strength.
