Abstract:The vibration signal of transformer's winding is correlative with the conditions of winding's compression and distortion, therefore, vibration monitor of transformer's winding is an effective method for on-line monitoring the power transformer delitescent faults. A new method of obtaining the energy distribution with time and frequency of transformer's winding vibration based on Hilbert-Huang Transform(HHT) was developed. Firstly, Empirical mode decomposition(EMD) separated the vibration series into a finite and small number of intrinsic mode functions(IMF).IMF was directly decomposed from vibration series and could reflect the intrinsic physical property of vibration series more clearly. Secondly, Hilbert transform was applied to every IMF. Then, three dimensional amplitude(energy)-frequency-time spectrum designated as Hilbert spectrum was got, where both amplitude and frequency are functions of time. Eliminating the spurious harmonics without physical mean, the Hilbert spectrum provided high-resolution time-frequency characteristics of winding's different work states. It is demonstrated by the test results that the new detection method is very useful in the fault diagnosis of transformer's winding.
Research on Short-Circuit Vibration of Power Transformer

Abstract:Diagnose transformer using vibration method is a new trend which can monitor without shut apparatus down,but this method is still unsatisfied.The vibration signals from the transformer tank are complicated,and it is important to find a model which can reflect the vibration correctly.Aiming at how to simplify the vibration model,a transformer tank vibration model under short-circuit condition was presented.The model was based on how signal generates and how signal transmits.The model was obtained using data set sampled in single phase short-circuit tests.With the fully trained model,the estimated vibration signal at one point was calculated by employing the input current only.In order to validate the model,three phase short-circuit tests were taken.The results show a good agreement between estimated signals and measured signals,the results indicate that it is feasible to use a simplified windings and transmission model.

Abstract:Potential faults can be timely detected through online monitoring to the dissolved gases in the transformer oil so as to improve the safety of the electric power system. Firstly, the online monitoring technology of dissolved gases in the transformer oil is discussed in detail. Then, a low cost monitoring method to the characteristics gas dissolved in the transformer oil by using the semiconductor sensor array is put forward in this paper. In order to solve the cross sensitivity problem of a single gas sensor to the gaseous mixture, a signal-purifying method of gas sensor array based on neural network is introduced and used to settle the cross sensitivity problems among the characteristic gases when different sensors are used to monitor the gases concentration in the system. On this basis, a wireless monitoring system to the dissolved gases in the transformer oil is developed. The development system can realize to on-tine monitor the characteristic gases dissolved in the transformer oil such as hydrogen, methane, ethane, ethene, acetylene, carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide. And, the transformer condition information can also be transmitted in a wireless, long-distance, rapid and low-cost way for the system.

Abstract:This paper is concerned with the design and development of an on-line condition monitoring system for large power transformers utilizing signals such as transformer vibration, voltages, currents, temperature and state of switches. The system consists of two parts which communicate each other via Ethernet or series port. The formal is a front-end computer subsystem used for data acquisition and processing, and the latter is a remote computer subsystem for analyzing and monitoring transformer's operating conditions. It provides a reliable real-time service to power industry by integrating the transformers' electrical properties with the mechanical properties for detecting potential problems in power transformers. The developed system has became useful platform for an on-going project on the condition monitoring and fault diagnosis for large power transformers.

Abstract:Monitoring the loss of distribution transformer is very significant for the energy conservation and economic operation of transformer. Off-line approach is the main way used in loss detection in China. In this paper, an on-line detecting method for transformer loss is proposed. The equivalent circuit of transformer is created. Based on the structure and working principle of transformer, the formulas for calculating the open circuit loss and the short-circuit loss are deduced. The essential parameters for loss calculation are the voltage and current of the primary and secondary windings. Therefore, the electrical parameters of the primary and secondary windings need to be measured at first. Simulation is carried out. The results are compared with the loss detected in off-line way, which shows that the proposed method is feasible. The constructed on-line detecting system is also presented.

Abstract:At present, there are shoddy transformers in the market, of which the windings are replaced by aluminum and copper clad aluminum. The commissioning of these transformers may cause poor power supply performance and excessive winding heating. The existing detection methods of windings are complex, time-consuming to operate and destructive. Therefore, a winding material identification method based on vibration characteristics is proposed. Firstly, the vibration accelerations of transformer cores and windings with different winding materials are theoretically derived. Furthermore, through the coupling simulation of magnetic field and structure field of distribution transformers, the calculated vibration characteristics of copper, aluminum, and copper clad aluminum are verified. Finally, by comparing the time domain, the frequency domain and time-frequency domain of acceleration signals, preliminary identification of winding materials is conducted, which lays a theoretical foundation for establishing a precise identification model for winding materials in the future. This work provides guarantee for the safe operation of the distribution network.

Abstract:Power electronic converters are widely applied in new power system. Converter transformers have a critical risk in safe and reliable operation due to the insulation ageing. At present, conventional transformer insulation monitoring methods are limited to low sensitivity, invasive sensors and sophisticated evaluation. The goal of this paper is to improve the performance of online insulation monitoring for converter transformers based on broadband frequency response. The significance of application promotion, the disadvantages of existing methods and the challenges from offline to online implementation are clarified. A novel technique based on inherent harmonics in voltage source converter system is investigated, which provides the prospect in improving the online monitoring performance with high reliability and non-invasiveness nature.

Abstract:With the continuous growth of power demand and the expansion of the power system, the operating environment of power transformers is becoming increasingly complex, often accompanied by electromagnetic vibration and noise issues. Accurately measuring the noise value under its motion state is crucial for substation noise control. This article comprehensively analyzes the characteristics of strong magnetic vibration noise in transformers. Using a 500kV transformer as the experimental object, based on sound pressure method and discrete point sound intensity measurement method, a layout plan for experimental equipment measurement points is proposed. The noise, vibration, and current signals during transformer operation are measured on-site in the substation, and the correlation between different signals is analyzed through amplitude and frequency spectrum. The measurement results show that the main frequency components of the vibration and noise signals are basically consistent, and the 100Hz noise amplitude is positively correlated with the current amplitude change, fully proving the effectiveness of the proposed measurement method and measurement point layout, which has important reference value for monitoring the vibration and noise status of transformers and the development of power systems.

Abstract:The open-circuit loss and the short-circuit loss are the important parameters of transformers.They are mainly measured off-line through the open-circuit test and the short-circuit test,which not only is uneconomical but also affects the continuity of power supply.Based on the situation,this paper proposes an on-line detecting method of transformer losses.The formulae for the open-circuit loss and the short-circuit loss were derived from the equivalent circuit model.The operating voltage and current of transformers on-line was measured through data acquisition system.The on-line detecting of the open-circuit loss and short-circuit loss was achieved.Simulation study shows that the proposed method is accurate and feasible.

Abstract:This paper aims to study the sensitivity of 500kv power transformer tank to winding vibrations. Through full analyses of winding vibration characteristics, tank mechanical characteristics and vibration differences in different positions on tank surface, the authors propose some evaluation criteria and principles on vibration measuring positions on the tank. Based on the principles, the relevant experimental studies and analyses are conducted for 500kV power transformers with a single phase structure. Besides, the methods are also proposed for selecting sensitive measuring positions that can effectively reflect the winding vibrations of 500kV power transformers. The study results show that the principles and methods proposed will provide good foundations and support for on-line condition monitoring and fault diagnoses of power transformers.

Abstract:Vibration monitoring is an effective way to evaluate the mechanical condition of converter transformers. In this paper, the vibration characteristics of converter transformers under no-load condition are investigated by performing a no-load voltage rise test with DC lines in a ± 800kV converter station. Vibration features like vibration amplitude, odd-even harmonic ratio, recurrence rate, and determinism are employed to study the variation trend of converter transformers. It is found that these vibration characteristics show different variation patterns during the test, which can provide reference for evaluating the operation status of the converter transformer.

Abstract:Yin‐dong ± 660 kV High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) Power Transmission Project, the first ± 660 kV DC transmission project built around the world, is the symbolic project at this voltage level and a major transmission line of Shandong grid. When the HVDC system is operated in monopole ground return mode, the vibration and noise of the ac power transformer will get enhanced during field monitoring. This paper describes the abnormal vibration and noise in detail. By analyzing the abnormal phenomena and monitoring the direct current passing through the neutral point of transformer, this paper shows that the main reason is the monopole grounding operation of Yin‐dong DC system. Finally, measures are provided to prevent the occurrence of abnormal vibration and noise of alternating current (AC) power transformers.

Abstract:In this paper, A transformer capacity and loss on-line detecting experimental system is presented. The on-line detecting methods used in this system are proposed based on the off-line detection research. Two components of the system, a data acquisition system and analysis software on PC, are designed and a simulated experiment platform is also set up. The on-line test of the capacity and loss of distribution transformer using the on-line detecting system is implemented on this platform. The experiment results show that the errors between the on-line and off-line detections are very small and the proposed on-line detecting methods of the transformer capacity and loss are feasible.

Abstract:As one of the most important electrical equipment in power system, the stable operation of transformer is the key factor to ensure the safety of power grid system. Winding deformation is the most common fault of transformer, which will seriously affect the reliable operation of the whole power system. Therefore, the detection of transformer winding deformation is of great significance to prevent transformer accidents. In order to further improve the reliability of transformer winding deformation detection, this paper proposes a transformer winding deformation detection method based on oscillation wave method. Firstly, the equivalent circuit model of transformer winding is established, and the transformer winding fault is simulated by changing the inductance and capacitance parameters in the model, and the law between the change of oscillation wave curve and the change of related performance indexes and equivalent parameters is obtained. Finally, the field test verification is carried out on a 10 kV transformer in the laboratory. The results show that the oscillation wave method can diagnose the transformer winding deformation and can be used for the actual transformer winding deformation detection.

Abstract:Transformer condition monitoring based on vibration analysis is proved to be an effective and convenient way for power transformer maintenance. Most monitoring of transformer vibration is wire-based systems for acquisi-tioning and transferring the field data.But the wire-based systems can only be applied for a limited area and the sys-tems will introduce errors if the sensor is hit and shifted,which happens frequently.To overcome those disadvantages and limitations of monitoring systems,the wireless vibration transducer,which is based on small ZigBee wireless sys-tem and MEMS vibration sensor,has been developed. The wireless vibration transducer was applied to the shaking table tests and field work. The results showed that the developed transducer was capable of vibration measurements for transformer condition monitoring and diagnosis.

Abstract:This paper designs a portable transformer condition monitoring and fault diagnosis system based on vibration analysis method. The system designs and offers pivotal technologies, including hardware and software modules such as signal sampling and conditioning,A/D converting,database,fault diagnosis algorithms and user interface. This system can analyze the condition of transformer based on monitoring transformer signals including vibration, current, voltage and temperature. It contains fault diagnosis algorithms,besides normal signal processing method such as spectrum analysis and amplitude analysis. There are also new diagnosis methods like periodicity diagnosis algorithm and the diagnosis algorithm based on transformer vibration modeling. The methods are used for detecting the transformer abnormal and sending alarm. The test result shows that this system conveniently and effectively realizes live monitoring of transformer condition and fault.

Abstract:As a kind of transformer installed on vehicles, the vehicular mobile transformer needs to realize frequent transportation quickly and safely. However, there are few studies on the on-line monitoring of vehicular mobile transformers. In this article, a transportation condition monitoring system for vehicular mobile transformers is introduced and developed. The transportation process of a 110-kV/40-MVA vehicular mobile transformer is monitored from Jiangsu Province to Guangdong Province, which is recognized as the first time that the transformer is monitored for more than 12 h and more than 1000-km transportation. The geo-location, driving speed, vibration, and shock acceleration in six different road sections are obtained in real-time. The results show that the vibration and shock acceleration has a strong positive correlation with the driving speed. The amplitude of the $y$ -axis acceleration is generally the lowest among three-axis accelerations, and the three-axis vibration and shock acceleration has the same trend of increase and decrease. During the whole transportation process, the driving speed of the 110-kV/40-MVA vehicular mobile transformer varies from 0 to 76 km/h, and the vibration and shock acceleration amplitudes obtained by the monitoring system do not exceed 1 g, which has great significance to the safe operation of power grid and can provide the strong evidence of online monitoring data to set transportation guidelines for vehicular mobile transformers.

Abstract:The oil‐immersed transformer is a crucial power equipment in power system, which is prone to abnormality or failure under long running. In order to improve the level of operation and maintenance and ensure the safe and reliable operation of the power grid, it is necessary to diagnose the fault of the oil‐immersed transformer in time. Most of the traditional fault vibration methods are off‐line detection, and are easily disturbed by mechanical deterioration. In order to solve the above problems, this paper established a 3D electromagnetic and stress coupling simulation model of oil‐immersed transformer by finite element simulation software. The vibration characteristics of oil‐immersed transformer core winding are obtained, and at the same time, this paper obtained the vibration signals at different positions on transformer core winding and oil tank. According to the vibration signal of the transformer, the best measuring point position of the tank wall is proposed to accurately reflect the vibration characteristics of the transformer. The signal data is preprocessed by CEEMDAN decomposition method, and the signal data is classified by GWO‐BP composite classification algorithm. This paper proposed an online transformer fault diagnosis method based on vibration signal, which achieves the purpose of accurately diagnosing oil‐immersed transformer faults. The test results show that in the case of oil‐immersed transformers the accuracy of the proposed transformer fault diagnosis method is more than 93%, which provides important guiding significance for the safe and stable operation of the transformer. © 2024 Institute of Electrical Engineer of Japan and Wiley Periodicals LLC.

Abstract:Accurate oil level measurement can reduce the probability of transformer failure caused by abnormal oil level. An online monitoring technology of transformer oil level based on ultrasonic sensors is proposed in this article. In order to solve the problem of remote oil level measurement for unmanned transformers, this paper proposes an online monitoring technology for transformer oil level based on ultrasonic sensors. Subsequently, a finite element model and experimental testing platform were constructed to analyse and verify the influencing factors of the transformer oil level sensors. The results indicated that there is a lower measurement error at 140 kHz in the ultrasonic frequency range of 20–320 kHz, which can be selected as the recommended frequency. The impurities in the oil and the thickness of the tank wall have a slight impact on the accuracy of oil level measurement, and can lead to a decrease in the signal‐to‐noise ratio of the echo. Furthermore, as the speed of sound increases by about 4 m/s, for every 1°C increase in oil temperature, it is necessary to calibrate the measurement results based on the oil temperature. The test results of actual experimental transformers showed that the designed online monitoring device can achieve high‐precision monitoring of transformer oil level, with a relative error generally less than 3%.
