Abstract:This paper is concerned with the design and development of an on-line condition monitoring system for large power transformers utilizing signals such as transformer vibration, voltages, currents, temperature and state of switches. The system consists of two parts which communicate each other via Ethernet or series port. The formal is a front-end computer subsystem used for data acquisition and processing, and the latter is a remote computer subsystem for analyzing and monitoring transformer's operating conditions. It provides a reliable real-time service to power industry by integrating the transformers' electrical properties with the mechanical properties for detecting potential problems in power transformers. The developed system has became useful platform for an on-going project on the condition monitoring and fault diagnosis for large power transformers.
Analysis Of Transformer'S Winding Vibration Characteristics Using Hilbert-Huang Transform

Abstract:The vibration signal of transformer's winding is correlative with the conditions of winding's compression and distortion, therefore, vibration monitor of transformer's winding is an effective method for on-line monitoring the power transformer delitescent faults. A new method of obtaining the energy distribution with time and frequency of transformer's winding vibration based on Hilbert-Huang Transform(HHT) was developed. Firstly, Empirical mode decomposition(EMD) separated the vibration series into a finite and small number of intrinsic mode functions(IMF).IMF was directly decomposed from vibration series and could reflect the intrinsic physical property of vibration series more clearly. Secondly, Hilbert transform was applied to every IMF. Then, three dimensional amplitude(energy)-frequency-time spectrum designated as Hilbert spectrum was got, where both amplitude and frequency are functions of time. Eliminating the spurious harmonics without physical mean, the Hilbert spectrum provided high-resolution time-frequency characteristics of winding's different work states. It is demonstrated by the test results that the new detection method is very useful in the fault diagnosis of transformer's winding.

Abstract:Potential faults can be timely detected through online monitoring to the dissolved gases in the transformer oil so as to improve the safety of the electric power system. Firstly, the online monitoring technology of dissolved gases in the transformer oil is discussed in detail. Then, a low cost monitoring method to the characteristics gas dissolved in the transformer oil by using the semiconductor sensor array is put forward in this paper. In order to solve the cross sensitivity problem of a single gas sensor to the gaseous mixture, a signal-purifying method of gas sensor array based on neural network is introduced and used to settle the cross sensitivity problems among the characteristic gases when different sensors are used to monitor the gases concentration in the system. On this basis, a wireless monitoring system to the dissolved gases in the transformer oil is developed. The development system can realize to on-tine monitor the characteristic gases dissolved in the transformer oil such as hydrogen, methane, ethane, ethene, acetylene, carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide. And, the transformer condition information can also be transmitted in a wireless, long-distance, rapid and low-cost way for the system.

Abstract:This paper designs a portable transformer condition monitoring and fault diagnosis system based on vibration analysis method. The system designs and offers pivotal technologies, including hardware and software modules such as signal sampling and conditioning,A/D converting,database,fault diagnosis algorithms and user interface. This system can analyze the condition of transformer based on monitoring transformer signals including vibration, current, voltage and temperature. It contains fault diagnosis algorithms,besides normal signal processing method such as spectrum analysis and amplitude analysis. There are also new diagnosis methods like periodicity diagnosis algorithm and the diagnosis algorithm based on transformer vibration modeling. The methods are used for detecting the transformer abnormal and sending alarm. The test result shows that this system conveniently and effectively realizes live monitoring of transformer condition and fault.

Abstract:Condition monitoring and fault diagnosis of power transformer using vibration analysis method has attracted great attention. This paper presents a transformer vibration model under short-circuit condition, which consists of two sub-models. One is a vibration model of internal windings, and the other is a signal transmission model. In the laboratory tests, the parameters in the model is measured using data set sampled in single phase short-circuit tests. Then with this model, the estimated vibration signals of the same point can be calculated by employing the input current only. In order to validate the whole model, three phase short-circuit tests are taken, and the results show a good agreement between estimated signals and measured signals.

Abstract:Diagnose transformer using vibration method is a new trend which can monitor without shut apparatus down,but this method is still unsatisfied.The vibration signals from the transformer tank are complicated,and it is important to find a model which can reflect the vibration correctly.Aiming at how to simplify the vibration model,a transformer tank vibration model under short-circuit condition was presented.The model was based on how signal generates and how signal transmits.The model was obtained using data set sampled in single phase short-circuit tests.With the fully trained model,the estimated vibration signal at one point was calculated by employing the input current only.In order to validate the model,three phase short-circuit tests were taken.The results show a good agreement between estimated signals and measured signals,the results indicate that it is feasible to use a simplified windings and transmission model.

Abstract:Structure,design,technology and field applications of steam turbine vibration sensor fault diagnosis and calibrator equipment were proposed.Based on LabVIEW,interfaces of host computer and console computer and amplitude domain,time do-main,frequency domain analysis model of detective signals were developed. Advantech data collection and signal conditioning modules were used to achieve connection the instrument with bearing vibration sensors,shaft vibration sensors keyphasor sensors and data collection.Fault analysis and diagnostic algorithms and database settings which were used to store collection data were realized with MATLAB.With the comprehensive field test,it is proved that online monitoring,signal analysis and fault diagnosis of vibration sensors at field can be done with this equipment.After transition,it can be used as an online reliable steam turbine vibra-tion monitoring tool in thermal power plants,nuclear power plants and hydropower plants and some other fields with large rotating machinery vibration.

Abstract:A strategy for remote condition monitoring of power transformer based on feature extraction of three-dimensional temperature field is proposed. First, a three-dimensional temperature field of power transformer is modeled, based on infrared temperature measurements. Then, its features are extracted and used for constructing templates corresponding to different fault patterns of power transformer. Second, an online data collector based on embedded system is designed to satisfy the requirements of remote condition monitoring of power transformer on real time, reliability and distributed management, with which a distributed system for condition monitoring and fault diagnosis is established. Also, considering such operation characteristic of power transformer as wide distribution, automatic control and so on, the another studied key technique is based on GPRS for remote communication. Finally, artificial neural network (ANN) is applied to fusion of multivariate information, and accurate diagnosis or forecast faults of the transformer intelligently.

Abstract:A set of on-line monitoring system for partial discharge within power transformers is developed. On the basis of electro-acoustic joint monitoring method the presented system can detect the current signals of multiplex pulses and the ultrasonic signals caused by partial discharge within the power transformer. In the hardware of this system the anti-interference measures such as optical fibre transmission and so on are used to effectively suppress the on-site electromagnetic interference; in the software of this system the discrete binary wavelet transform algorithm is used to filter the periodical interference and corona interference in monitored signals, so that the internal and external discharge pulses can be accurately distinguished. Based on equivalent sound velocity and using fuzzy theory and finite element numerical analysis, the position where the partial discharge occurs can be located. The on-site operation experience shows that the presented system possesses higher detection accuracy and can offer creditable basis for condition-based maintenance of power transformers.

Abstract:The vibration methods are widely employed in the machinery condition monitoring and the time-frequency analysis has been applied in many fault detection applications. In this paper, the study of the vibrations using Wigner-Ville distribution is presented to assess the power transformer condition. First, the distribution contour plots of power transformer vibrations under different conditions are compared. Then, the pattern recognition based on the energy distribution similarity is presented. Finally, a health metric is proposed to represent the transformer health state. The results from more than 10 transformers are compared, and the preliminary study shows that the proposed method is effective to assess the power transformer condition.

Abstract:Abstract This paper focuses on several common fault phenomena and possible causes of dry-type transformer. MATLAB programming realizes the processing of acoustic signal. Through the encapsulation of GUI interface program and the processing and analysis of a large number of fault signals, fault sets are formed. Through the actual transformer fault acoustic signal processing, the main fault frequency of the acoustic signal is extracted and used as an important criterion for transformer fault detection.

Abstract:In this paper, A transformer capacity and loss on-line detecting experimental system is presented. The on-line detecting methods used in this system are proposed based on the off-line detection research. Two components of the system, a data acquisition system and analysis software on PC, are designed and a simulated experiment platform is also set up. The on-line test of the capacity and loss of distribution transformer using the on-line detecting system is implemented on this platform. The experiment results show that the errors between the on-line and off-line detections are very small and the proposed on-line detecting methods of the transformer capacity and loss are feasible.

Abstract:At moment there are very few system which can monitor the key operating parameters of wind turbine important components,and fault diagnosis capability in the existing system is very poor.An integrated system is designed,which combines the on-line fault warning and fault diagnosis.The hardware and software implementation is firstly demonstrated from system structure,system function and integrated system characters.Based on the analysis of fault diagnosis methods and vibration signal characters,the principle of fault warning system and the steps of fault diagnosis are expounded and proved,specially the function and implementation of fault diagnosis self-learning function.Practical operation in Zhangbei wind power plant shows that this monitoring system can satisfy the actual application with high reliability and efficiency.

Abstract:An on-line monitoring and diagnostic system for a 220kV oil-immersed power transformer with 3 windings has been established in a substation of China. The operation monitoring and insulation condition evaluation were integrated into this system. Many sensors were applied to monitor multiple insulation items such as partial discharge, dissolved gas, moisture in oil, oil temperature, coil hot spot temperature, iron core current, bushing condition and so on. The structure of the system was introduced and a diagnostic flow, via information fusion technology, was presented. Based on the system, it is easy to obtain the operating condition and insulation condition of the transformer. © 2004 IEEE.

Abstract:Monitoring the loss of distribution transformer is very significant for the energy conservation and economic operation of transformer. Off-line approach is the main way used in loss detection in China. In this paper, an on-line detecting method for transformer loss is proposed. The equivalent circuit of transformer is created. Based on the structure and working principle of transformer, the formulas for calculating the open circuit loss and the short-circuit loss are deduced. The essential parameters for loss calculation are the voltage and current of the primary and secondary windings. Therefore, the electrical parameters of the primary and secondary windings need to be measured at first. Simulation is carried out. The results are compared with the loss detected in off-line way, which shows that the proposed method is feasible. The constructed on-line detecting system is also presented.

Abstract:Transformer condition monitoring based on vibration analysis is proved to be an effective and convenient way for power transformer maintenance. Most monitoring of transformer vibration is wire-based systems for acquisi-tioning and transferring the field data.But the wire-based systems can only be applied for a limited area and the sys-tems will introduce errors if the sensor is hit and shifted,which happens frequently.To overcome those disadvantages and limitations of monitoring systems,the wireless vibration transducer,which is based on small ZigBee wireless sys-tem and MEMS vibration sensor,has been developed. The wireless vibration transducer was applied to the shaking table tests and field work. The results showed that the developed transducer was capable of vibration measurements for transformer condition monitoring and diagnosis.

Abstract:Health and usage monitoring (HUM) systems are critical for power transformers, and should provide accurate diagnostic information without delay. Diagnostic methodologies are the core of HUM systems. In this paper, we propose four complementary diagnostic techniques for power transformers based on vibrations that provide health metrics from different perspectives. During the field experiment, the vibrations of several in-service transformers under different conditions are collected, and the corresponding diagnostic results are obtained. Next, a health grade system is defined, and the suggested thresholds for each technique are also presented. The effectiveness of the health grade system is illustrated experimentally on three representative transformers. The consistency between the results of the proposed techniques and the actual condition of the test transformers show that the proposed techniques can distinguish transformers under different conditions.

Abstract:In order to monitor faults in wind power equipment, an on-line monitoring system based on ADSP-BF518 processor was designed, which could cope with diversified status parameters of Wind turbines transmission mechanism. The on-line monitoring system can realize real-time monitoring of multiple transmission mechanism by means of the network communication. Using PC monitoring software, the status signal can be processed and the characteristic value of signal can be extracted. The application results showed the effectiveness of the monitoring equipment.

Abstract:Abstract The development of on-line monitoring technology for high-voltage electrical equipment insulation, the working principle of online monitoring device, and the problems in operation were comprehensively expounded. The on-site verification technology of high-voltage electrical equipment insulation online monitoring system was studied, and online monitoring was analyzed. Management and technical issues with the device were found. On this basis, the on-site calibration device for the on-line monitoring system of high-voltage electrical equipment insulation was developed. The results of on-site non-power-off verification of high-voltage electrical equipment insulation online monitoring system produced by several manufacturers were introduced.
