Abstract:In order to improve the wear resistance of Al-Si alloys, the electro deposition of Ni-Co-P/Si3N4 coating on a hypereutectic Al-Si casting alloy was studied in this paper. The thickness, hardness, surface morphology, composition, adhesive force and wear resistance of Ni-Co-P/Si3N4 coating were measured by optical microscope, micro-hardness tester, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), X-ray diffraction (XRD), adhesive attraction scratcher and abrasion tester. It was shown that Si3N4 particulates were uniformly distributed in the composite coating. And the effect of process parameters, such as electric current density, temperature, PH, plating time and component of electroplating bath,were obtained. The wear resistance of the coating was improved with the increase of hardness and the content of Si3N4 in the coating. It was also improved by decreasing electric current density. The adhesion of the coating was poor for increasing the content of P and Co in the coating. At the same time, the coating was hard, friable, and easy to be broken with the decrease of temperature.

Abstract:A new electroless nickel plating process was introduced. The effects of individual affecting factor and combination scheme on the deposition rate, bath stability and deposit performance were analyzed. The results showed that the bath using combined brightener has high deposition rate and good stability and the deposit obtained thereof has low porosity, good corrosion resistance and high hardness.

Abstract:According to the following plating processes: deoiling → washing → pickling → washing → drying → weighing → electroless plating → washing → drying → weighing. It can obtain Ni-P deposit on aluminum alloy. It studied the influence of bath composition and process parameters on the composition and deposition rate of the alloy coating. Under temperature of 85~90°C, nickel sulfate hexahydrate 15~35g/L, sodium hypophosphite 10~30g/L, sodium citrate 5~10g/L, tartaric acid 1~2g/L, pH 3~5, reaction time 30~60min, load factor 1.0~2.0dm2/L. The microstructure, surface morphology, composition and valence of the elements in the alloy coating were studied by metallographic microscope, SEM, EDS and other modern analytical methods. The size of spherical grain was below 1um and compact distribution. The chemical coatings were mainly composed two elements, which were phosphorous and nickel. The mass percentage of phosphorous was about 15%, and the other one was about 80~85%. The corrosion resistance of the alloy coating was studied by CASS [1] test method, through 80h CASS test detection, the protection class of chemical coating can be reached 5. The relevant evaluation criteria can be referred to GB/T 6461-2002 [2]. The results show that the Ni-P binary amorphous alloy can be successfully prepared by this process.

Abstract:Electroplating of zinc−nickel alloy coatings (3–16 at % Ni) on Type 17G1S-U steel from ammonium oxalate baths is studied. The effects that the ratio of alloy components has on the coating's corrosion resistance and structure and the electroplating kinetic parameters are revealed. Applying zinc–nickel alloy coatings leads to a nearly sevenfold decrease in the corrosion rate compared to zinc-only coatings. The microhardness of high-alloy nickel coatings increases by a factor of 1.8 compared to their low-alloy zinc–nickel counterparts.

Abstract:In this paper the technique and conditions of the synthesis of CNTs-Ni-P composite coating with electroless com posite plating have been studied.We also discussed the influence on the wear-re-sis tance and anti-corrasion of the Ni-P com posite coating with the CNTs .We found the best conditions to synthesize the CNTs-Ni-P composite coating from all above.At the same time after annealed in high temperature,the hardness of the composite coating has been observed.The SEM and the TEM were used to analyze the structure characters of the CNTs-Ni-P composite coating and the morphology of the CNTs respectively.

Abstract:For digging the effect of the nano-Al_2O_3 particle in alkali plating solution on the configuration,the capability and the crystallization of the coating,the incorporation of nano-Al_2O_3 particle into Ni-high phosphorus coating on steel substrate by alkali electroless plating solution has been investigated.By scanning electron microscopy,transmission electron microscopy,X-ray diffraction and differential thermal analysis apparatus,the research results show that adding nano-Al_2O_3 particle to alkali plating solution,the coating containing nano-Al_2O_3 particle can be obtained and the hardness obviously increases.Nano-Al_2O_3 particle speeds the crystallization of composite coatings.

Abstract:The surface of copper plate of the mold need to be reinforced to obtain the plating coatings with high hardness and corrosion resistant properties. Nowadays, Ni-base alloy coatings is used widely in the industrial production. In order to raise the service life of mold, the experiments on the property of Ni-base nano ZrO2 composite plating coatings was done in this paper. The experiments were planned with the orthogonal test design method. The effective factors on the property of coatings, bath temperature, cathode current density, the distance between two electrodes and the magnitude of Nano-ZrO2,were experimentally studied. The optimum process parameter were obtained. The results show that the composite plating layer of Ni-base Nano ZrO2 with good properties can be obtained. The optimal conditions are as follows: the bath temperature is 40 degrees C, cathode current density is 3A/dm(2), the distance between two electrodes is 12 cm, the magnitude of Nano-ZrO2 is 12g/L. In addition binding strength of the coatings were measured quantitatively, and the structure of the plating layer were observed with SEM. The layer with good properties can be obtained in this method.

Abstract:The coating technics by electroless deposition with Ni-P alloy on the surface of NdFeB magnets were optimized by orthogonal experiments. The microstructure and morphology of NdFeB magnets with electroless Ni-P deposit from an acidic bath and an alkaline bath were studied and compared. The corrosion rates of Ni-P deposites and substrate were measured in the NaCl solutions of 3.5wt%, the HCl solutions of 10vot% and the NaOH solutions of 20wt%. The corrosion characteristics of Ni-P deposits were evaluated for the two baths by electrochemical potentiodynamic polarization and impedance techniques. The results show that both deposits enhanced the corrosion resistance of substrate. The Ni-P deposit from the acidic bath provides a better protection due to the amorphous structure, and the continuous and compact cystiform microstructure on the surface of coatings.
Process for Nickel-Phosphorous Pulse Electroplating and Corrosion Resistance of the Alloy Coating

Abstract:Ni-P alloy coatings were prepared by pulse electroplating at different average current density and duty ratio.The morphology of the alloy coating was observed with a scanning electron microscope.The deposition rate of the alloy coating was measured with a micrometer.Moreover,the corrosion resistance of the alloy coating was examined based on saline water immersion test and polarization curve measurement in relation to optimization of the pulse electroplating process.It was found that desired deposition rate of the Ni-P alloy coating was obtained under an average current density of 3 A/dm 2 and a pulse width of 2 ms.Besides,the alloy coating obtained under a duty ratio of 1 ∶ 5 had better grain refinement effect and excellent corrosion resistance as well.

Abstract:Electroless Ni-Co-P ternary alloy deposits were prepared by optimizing the bath composition and operating conditions to improve the corrosion resistance of NdFeB permanent magnets. The effects of pH and metallic ion ratio([Co2+]/[Ni2+ +Co2+]) on plating rate and deposit composition were investigated. Polarization curves of NdFeB matrix with and without Ni-Co-P deposits in 3.5% (mass fraction)NaCl solution were examined. It is found that the plating rate and the cobalt content of the deposit increase with increasing pH, while the nickel and phosphorus contents decrease. With increasing metallic ratio, the plating rate decreases and the cobalt content of the deposit increases with a simultaneous decrease in the nickel and phosphorus contents. The polarization curves exhibit that the corrosion rate of NdFeB magnets decreases by two orders of magnitude in 3.5% NaCl solution after electroless plating with the Ni-Co-P deposits. The use of the metallic ion ratio at 0. 3 in the bath solution could achieve the best corrosion resistance.

Abstract:The Ni-W-P alloy coatings have been widely used in the fields of electronic, aviation and anticorrosion, owing to their high hardness, good wear resistance and strong corrosion resistance. Herein, we study the effects of complexants on the chemical composition, morphology and plating rate of the Ni-W-P ternary alloy coatings by developing a near-neutral plating solution with disodium edetate, sodium citrate and lactic acid as complex complexants. The results of scanning electron microscope (SEM) and energy-dispersive spectrometer (EDS) indicate that a flat and dense coating with the W content up to 11.75 wt.% is acquired by adjusting the composition of plating solution. Meanwhile, the plating rate of Ni-W-P coating can reach up to 22.4 µm/h. Furthermore, the characterization results indicate that the Ni-W-P ternary alloy coating possesses higher hardness, better wear and corrosion resistance compared to Ni-P coating. These findings may exploit a broader field for searching better complexants in electroless coating and for understanding the related mechanisms to provide guidance for the design of ternary alloy coatings.

Abstract:In order to increase the bonding strength between plating layer and substrate and promote the formation of a transfer film, a new type of Ni-Cu-P brush plating layer with excellent wear resistance was developed on the basis of an Ni-P amorphous plating layer, although it showed different behaviour when the substrate was changed. This paper systematically investigated its tribological behaviour on a “ball-on-disc” testing machine under lubrication with paraffin oil, and analyzed in depth the effect of substrates (conventionally heat treated 1045 steel and nitrided 1045 steel) on its microstructure, hardness, wear resistance and wear mechanism. The results showed that the load bearing capacity of an Ni-Cu-P brush plating layer on a nitrided 1045 steel substrate can be more than ten times that of a 1045 steel without a plating layer, and more than twice that of a 1045 steel substrate without a nitriding layer. The composite coating process can usually offer an immeasurable effect through the interaction between composite layers.

Abstract:Ni–P alloys with 7wt% to 10wt% phosphorus were deposited by sodium hypophosphite onto industrially pure aluminum substrates after different pretreatments. Two nickel immersion pretreatments (NIPs) were tested prior to electroless Ni–P plating, and their effects on the corrosion properties of the Ni–P alloy layers were evaluated using polarization curves and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The surface morphology and chemical composition of the Ni–P coatings were investigated by scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction analysis. Both proposed NIPs were found to improve the corrosion resistance. Thus, a double NIP method similar to the double zincate treatment method was developed. The alloy layer pretreated by this developed method showed the highest corrosion resistance, which can be mainly attributed to the high phosphorus content and low microporosity.

Abstract:Electroplating amorphous nickel-phosphorus alloy coating technology was studied in hypophosphite-nickel salt bath, and the performances of coating were also investigated. Orthogonal tests of 7 factors and 3 levels were carried out in which the!7 factors were temperature, current density, pH value, NiSO_4·6H_2O, NiCl_2·6H_2O, H_3PO_4, and NaH_2PO_2.H_2O. The processing parameters for Ni-P plating with optimum corrosion resistance are that temperature is 68 ℃, current density is 4 A/dm2, pH value is 2, NiSO_4·6H_2O is 150 g/L, NiCl_2·6H_2O is 11 g/L, NaH_2PO_2·H_2O is 7 g/L, and H_3PO_4 is 45 mL/L, but the conditions for the hardest coating are temperature is 68 ℃, current density is 6 A/dm2, pH value is 2.5, NiSO_4·6H_2O is 150 g/L, NiCl_2·6H_2O is 11 g/L, NaH_2PO_2·H_2O is 6 g/L, and H_3PO_4 is 50 mL/L.

Abstract:In this study, Ni–P, Ni–W–P and Ni–B coatings were electrolessly plated on aluminium alloy substrates. All coatings were uniform and adherent with shiny metallic appearances. A systematic study was performed to evaluate the coating mechanical properties including hardness and wear resistance. The Ni–B coating possessed a superior mechanical performance, showing the highest hardness and wear resistance among the examined coatings. Besides, a further study regarding the wear behaviour confirmed a different wear mechanism of Ni–B coating when compared to the Ni–P and Ni–W–P coatings under the wear tests, which is revealed by the 3D profile images of wear tracks.

Abstract:Electro-brush plating (EBP) procedure using deep eutectic solvent (DES) based electrolytes was adopted for the first time to prepare nanocrystalline Ni coatings on Fe substrates. The electro-brush plated Ni (EBP Ni) coating is featured as lower surface roughness, better bonding strength, and higher wear resistance in comparison with the traditional electroplated Ni (EP Ni) from the same DES electrolyte. Nanoindentation tests indicate the EBP Ni has a high ratio of hardness to Young's modulus (0.0551) and a high hardness of about 5.4 GPa, showing an optimum mechanical property. Moreover, the EBP Ni coating with a thickness of similar to 3.6 mu m exhibits an enhanced corrosion resistance over the EP Ni for protecting Fe substrate. The unique deposition dynamics at the electrode/DES interface during the EBP process is suggested as being responsible for the superior mechanical property and enhanced corrosion resistance of the EBP Ni coatings. Abstract:A compound brightener agent consisting of sodium benzene sulphinate,pyridine and sodium allyl sulphonate was added in the nickel-phosphorus electroless plating bath,and bright coatings can be obtained from the bath.In order to study the deposition process of electroless Ni-P plating with the addition of the brightener,the surface morphology and microstructure of coatings were characterized using the SEM.The phosphorus content in the coating was measured using spectrophotometry.Polarization curves of the ordinary coatings and the bright coatings in 3.5% NaCl solution were examined and the results were compared with that of neutral salt spray test.The results show that,compared with the ordinary coatings,the cystiform and the grain size of the bright coatings are decreased,and the phosphorus content is increased.The polarization curves and the neutral salt spray test result exhibit that the corrosion resistance of the bright coatings is increased.

Abstract:Electroplating Ni-W coatings were prepared on medium carbon steel substrate.Preparation technique was studied through orthogonal experiment design method,using poor analysis method to analyze the various factors affecting the performance of alloy coatings,solution formula and optimum process conditions.Composition,microstructures and performance were analyzed by scanning electron microscope,x-ray diffraction,optical microscopy and microhardness tester.The results show that of all the factors affecting the microhardness,NaI content is the strongest,and followed by current density.The surface of Ni-W alloy coatings is not found to have obvious flaws and has a good bond with the matrix.The microhardness of the coatings can reach 650 HV.
