Abstract:The importance of the current auxiliary circuit applied in automotive HID lamp ballast is introduced and a kind of current auxiliary circuit is analyzed which consists of RCD and has separated charge loop and discharge loop.Based on the analysis of the operating principle and simulation to this circuit,the design method of the component parameters is proposed.The feasibility of the circuit design method is verified by the experiments.

Abstract:This paper presents an electronic ballast for Metal Halide Lamps(MHL) based on ARM Microcontroller(LPC2114).In which the piece-wise linearization strategy was used to match the load characteristics of Metal Halide Lamps.The control flow of the electronic ballast based on ARM is proposed.The design method of the discrete compensating network of the constant current and constant power control is also presented.The experimental results showed this electronic ballast′s constant power precision can reach 0.4%.It also has the functions of error protection,communication and dimming.

Abstract:This paper introduces a novel ballast for Metal Halide Lamp (MHL) which is controlled by digital control strategy.It consists of power factor correction circuit ,Buck converter and inverter. Constant current and constant power strategies are used in ballast based on C504 .The transfer functions and design steps of system are demonstrated ,and PI regulator is used for its good dynamic and static performance .This control algorithm is realized by look-up table for its high efficiency. The experimental result demonstrates the prototype has good dynamic and static performance,higher efficiency(92%),higher power factor(0.997),and low THD(5.6%)

Abstract:This paper presents a design methodology, analysis, and practical considerations of LCLC resonant converter for multiple lamp operation ballast. According to the basic requirements of multiple lamp operation ballast (MLOB), the design procedure can be outlined to determine resonant parameter. Consequently, independent MLOB can be achieved under voltage-source half-bridge LCLC resonant converter with zero voltage switching (ZVS). Finally, some experimental results obtained from a prototype are shown to verify the theoretical discussion.

Abstract:In this paper, control model of voltage feedback self-oscillating ballast is established based on the point of view of control system. Two operation modes are proposed to analyze the self-oscillating operation. It can be found that this method can precisely calculate the probable self-oscillating frequency and determining its stability. The design is implemented successfully in a 36 W fluorescent lamp system. The experiment results prove that these methods are useful in the design of self-oscillating ballast.

Abstract:This paper presents the difference between automotive mercury free high intensity discharge(HID) lamps(D3S)and automotive mercury HID lamps(D1S).And a kind of electronic ballast for automotive mercury free HID lamps based on DSP is designed,according to the characteristics of D3S.The strategy of the digital control is also presented.The design method and design steps of digital control system are proposed.The experimental results show that the electronic ballast works stably with high efficiency.

Abstract:An adaptive acoustic resonance free electronic ballast for high intensity discharge (HID) lamps is proposed. The ballast implemented a digital method to detect acoustic resonance of HID lamps. The lamp power is kept constant. Simultaneously, end of life detection is also provided. A prototype of the electronic ballast for 250 W metal halide lamp has been built, and the experimental results proved its validity.

Abstract:This paper presents a MHz electronic ballast, which avoids the intrinsic problem of acoustic resonance of HID lamps. A novel three order LPF is adopted, which decreases lamp current crest factor and increases the lamp life. The circuit runs with the soft switch mode, which achieves better performance of EMC and higher efficiency on MHz frequency operation. Its validity is proved by both theoretical analysis and experimental results.

In order to prevent the lamp from extinguish immediately after break-over, auxiliary current circuit is proposed to provide additional current to lamp. During warm-up or run-up phase, DC lighting period also is needed to light a discharge lamp more reliably at the starting time of the discharge lamp. Abstract:In this paper, the self-oscillating LC series resonant parallel load inverter for electronic ballast applications is investigated from a system point of view. By considering the discharge lamp as a resistor in steady state, the self-oscillating series resonant parallel load inverter with lamp loads can be naturally modeled as a relay system. Precise frequency determination and stability of self-oscillating is analyzed using the methods by describing function method, Tsypkin method (frequency domain) and Hamel method (time domain). The characteristic of these three kind methods is analyzed respectively. The design approach is described and implemented successfully in a 36 W fluorescent lamp system.

Abstract:This paper describes the operation principle, effects of design parameters and critical design issues related to igniters used for the ignition of metal halide lamps. Mathematical modeling for the circuit is also given. The relationship between the width and peak value of igniter pulse and the circuit parameter is deduced. Experiments have been carried out to verify the theoretical analysis.

Abstract:A new type of electronic ballast circuit was proposed to solve the problem of acoustic resonance which may occur in the electronic ballast for high-intensity discharge (HID) lamps. Output signals of the pulse width modulation (PWM) control circuit becomed high frequency ones with variable pulse width and variable frequency by modulating the clock signal of the on-chip oscillator with a low-frequency signal. Driven by these high-frequency signals, acoustic resonance of a HID lamp was suppressed, and the HID lamp ran steadily. The structure of the proposed circuit was simple, dimensions were reduced and operating reliability was improved. The presented idea here made it easy to develop specific integrated circuits for HID lamps operating steadily, imposing a positive effect on the development and application of HID lamps.

Abstract:As an electric light source which has high luminous efficiency and long life time, electrodeless lamp system consists of electronic ballast as its power source and bubble. Complicated relationship exists between the output characteristic of electronic ballast and impedance characteristic of bubble, which decides the performance, including starting speed and luminous efficiency of electrodeless lamp system. To model and analyze the electrodeless lamp system, firstly in this paper, an experimental platform was built, the impedance characteristic of bubble under 2.65 MHz was measured. Secondly, based on the circuit topology of electronic ballast, the mathematical model between the series-resonant-parallel-load output stage parameters of electronic ballast and its output voltage is proposed, and the state variables of the output stage are analyzed, and the analytical solutions of the output voltage and output current of electronic ballast in association with relevant boundary conditions are found. Finally, numerical calculation, Pspice simulation and experiment were implemented. All of the three results agree well, which validates the accuracy of the model and analysis.
Novel Electronic Ballasts for the Solar-Energy Hid Lamp

Abstract:This paper presents two novel electronic ballasts for solar-energy HID lamps, voltage feedback ballast and current feedback ballast. These two ballasts adopt different strategies to control the working point of the HID lamp. The voltage feedback ballast controls the output voltage and series-wounds large inductor in order to make the virtual current invariable while the current feedback ballast controls the output current directly. The output current of the current feed back ballast is nearly square waveform which can restrain the acoustic resonances effectively. In this paper the circuit topologies, control principle, the simulation and experiment results of the two ballasts are given. Subsequently, comparisons of these two ballasts are analyzed.

Abstract:This paper presents a novel control strategy for a two-stage acoustic resonance free electronic ballast for high intensity discharge (HID) lamp. The ballast consists of a PFC stage, a low frequency half-bridge inverter with buck capability, and an igniter. A new control method proposed to control the half bridge inverter to supplies the lamp with low square wave current. A novel and simple method is proposed to conquer overshoot problem during output current inverting instant. The proposed control method was verified with experimental results.
