Abstract:This paper introduces a novel ballast for Metal Halide Lamp (MHL) which is controlled by digital control strategy.It consists of power factor correction circuit ,Buck converter and inverter. Constant current and constant power strategies are used in ballast based on C504 .The transfer functions and design steps of system are demonstrated ,and PI regulator is used for its good dynamic and static performance .This control algorithm is realized by look-up table for its high efficiency. The experimental result demonstrates the prototype has good dynamic and static performance,higher efficiency(92%),higher power factor(0.997),and low THD(5.6%)
