Abstract:Most countries begin to replace the conventional halogen headlamps with the small-wattage Xe metal halide lamp as the source of the automotive headlamp.However,the design of its electronic ballast is quite complex and the price is very high.As a result,it is only applied to the headlamp of the advance cars.This paper presentes the electronic ballast for automotive lamp using simulation control,and mainly discusses the basal principle and designing way including the basal structure of the ballast circuits and the selection of the topology of the main circuit.The transient process of the Xe lamp during the start-up phase is extremely complex.Therefore,how to complete the control of the start-up process is the difficulty.This paper also presentes the way of the constant power control and igniting.Based on the experimental data from the laboratory prototype,the circuits can complete all the control tasks from the phase of start-up to steady,including the switch of the constant power control,the high voltage of igniting.
