Abstract:One of the core parts of Mou Zongsan's thought is that the moral conscience can be intuited and the is the concept intuition rejected by Kant.This thought points to a theoretical significance: if we regard as real self rather than logic self, the self-intuition of real self is undeniable.

Abstract:Intellectual intuition is a core concept in Mou Zongsans Confucian writings.Mou believed that Kant does not admit that a human being could possess intellectual intuition , yet the Confucian School admits that people do in fact have this kind of ability.Strictly speaking , intellectual intuition expounded by Mou is not the same as that of Kant.It is important to understand the difference between the two in order to properly understand Mou Zongsans philosophy.

Abstract:Terming the ontology of moral mind creation as a thing-in-itself with value implications" originates from Mou Zongsan's unique interpretation of Kant's concept of intellectual intuition,and is the most recognized symbol of his ontology.But the ontology of moral mind creation,though not necessarily with the form and category of the cognitive mind, does have to do with the cognitive mind.Therefore,it still falls within the category of phenomena,rather than that of thing-in-itself.Since the moral mind involves goodness, such particularist phenomenon can be termed as "moral phenomenon."The ontology of the moral mind can be found in the same way as the signifier constructs the signified in phenomenology;moreover,it also breaks the latter's claim that non-objective behavior must necessarily be founded on objective behavior.This understanding may help clarify the confusion in Mou's thought,highlight the distinctiveness of Chinese philosophy and make up for the shortages of Western philosophy.

Abstract:In the process of Mou zongsan' s philosophical exploration,the theory of innate moral mind self-negation have three significances which in epistemology, historical-cultural philosophy and ontology separately. The syntheses in ontology and the 'moral practice’ definition made this theory deepen, but also entangled by cultural appeal and philosophical exploration. Due to the special definition of 'self-negation’, this theory differs from Hegel' s Spirit dialectic development and transforms Kant' s 'transcendental distinction’ theoretical formation, revealing the connotation of 'radical idealism’.

Abstract:Ontology is an important part in MOU Tsung-san's Confucianism.Its key point is that Moral Heart(conscience) as a substance of creation can not only create personal virtue,but also create Moral Being and give Cosmos values and significance.This theory is an outstanding contribution in following XIONG shi-li's New Vij āptimātratāsiddhi and developing related Kant' s theories.But there are some weaknesses in MOU's ontology in terms of the subject of creation in ontology,his interpretation of intellectual intuition,and especially the appellation of the being that Moral Heart creates.A deep understanding of the theoretical significance and methodological weakness in MOU's ontology can help reveal the real implications of his Confucianism.

Abstract:One key viewpoint of Mou Zongsan holds that the concept of thing-in-itself is not an idea of fact,but only a concept of valuation.The author of this article clearly expounds three different implications in the concept of thing-in-itself by following the logical thinking of Kant's Critical Philosophy.The author also points out that the concept of thing-in-itself not only includes the content of valuation,but also involves the meaning of fact.Because Mou Zongsan couldn't get a thorough understanding of the different implications in the concept of thing-in-itself,he denies the concept of thing-in-itself as an idea of fact,which will lead to some misunderstanding of this concept.

Abstract:The I or the self is the most intimate and familiar phenomena, but it is one of the most perplexing phenomenon in our intellectual life. The mind science has deeply studied various aspects of mental agents such as intentionality, perception, behavior, memory, learning, image, emotion, thinking, language, imagination, unconscious and even consciousness, however, unless tied closely with the notion of the self, all the aspects of mind mentioned above can be significatively talked about. At the same time, we have to immediately emphasize that the self is not a pole of entity like homunculus. So we argue that the self can be understood just from a perspective of structure. Human ordinary experience shows that the self primarily begins with a kind of living phenomena. F. Maturana J. Varela described the general structure of the self as a living being in terms of the notion of autopoeisis. The most basic feature of living beings—even the simplest live beings—is that living beings are autonomous individuals which have built a kind of the most primitive relationship of intentionality or meaning with the world. There are different morphologies of self in the evolutionary and developmental different levels of life-mind. The unified sense of self is the most direct experience in human ordinary life, which our knowledge of the self starts from. Unlike the self as a pure living being, how does the self with the sense of self come to being? A. Dmamasio argues that the neurobiology of consciousness faces two problems: the problem of how the movie-in-the-brain is generated, and the problem of how the brain generates the sense that there is an observer and owner for the movie, namely the sense of self. How are feelings embodied?—it is central to the current study of neural self. The perplexity from the self not only consists in the inherent particularity, but also the particular circulation relationship between the self and the world. Only when the circulation relationship is understood well, we can completely grasp the nature of self.

Abstract:Mouzongsan considers that thing-in-itself in Kant’s theory is not an Idea of Fact, but a concept of Valuation, which is his representative viewpoint. Such viewpoint plays an important role in Mou’s theory. I have pointed out in my previous published paper, that such point of view is a partial understanding of the connection between thing-in-itself and Noumenal Fact. However, I can not discuss Mou’s misapprehension in detail at present. I try to keep on discussing that topic as a continuation in this paper.

Abstract:The interpretation of vertical relationships is an important conception in Mou Zongsan's Confucianism.This conception is aimed at arguing that conscience is able to create beings.With its creation,everything in the universe has its moral significance and value and every case of moral achievement changes:the sufferings and sins followed by sacrifice to achieve morality are transformed into special happiness.From this we can solve the problem of perfect good(summum bonum) in Kant.However,due to some defects in his ontology,Mou Zongsan makes much confusion which is difficult to understand.

Abstract:Intentionality is a basic feature of life.Since F.Brentano put forward that intentionality is a criterion to distinguish between mental phenomenon and physical phenomenon, the topic of intentionality has been broadly and deeply probed into by the schools of Phenomenology. Analytical Philosophy, Philosophy of Language, Pragmatics and others, has become a pivot to analyze the general structure of consciousness, the identity of life ("I"), meaning and other topics. With the development of cognitive science and life science since mid-twentieth century, researchers have come to investigate further the origin of intentionality in organisms. Abstract:People tend to be unable to evaluate themselves accurately in many areas. One such area is their own and others’ morality. The current research explores the self–other moral valuation difference in the context of moral foundation theory. We propose that people generally have a moral positive illusion. Specifically, people overestimate their own morality and underestimate the morality of others. Two studies provide converging evidence that individuals underestimate the average moral valuations of others on the five dimensions of moral foundation theory. In particular, we demonstrate three moderators for moral positive illusion: moral foundation type, gender, and political identity. Specifically, compared with the binding foundations, people have greater moral positive illusions based on the individualizing foundations; compared to men, women have greater moral positive illusions; and compared with liberals, conservatives have greater moral positive illusions based on the binding foundations.

Abstract:K. Godel started his overall studies of E. Husserl at the end of the fifties of the last century. He mainly focused on Husserl's method of ideal intuition and reached therefrom a positive conclusion: concept is perceivable. In principle, the ideal intuition upheld by Husserl may be investigated from at least three phenomenological perspectives: 1. noesis-noema; 2. the apprehension-materials (Auffassungsmaterie) in noesis; 3. the apprehension-form (Auffassungsform) in noema. In Godel's relevant studies, these three perspectives are more or less touched by him, and are described in his own way. Godel all the time remained silent regarding these study results. In terms of this, he of course had his own reasons.

Abstract:The concept of intuition is the basis for explicating the thinking of Husserl and the entire movement of phenomenology. Originally, the intuition of Husserl is intuition of essence; only the intuition of sensation requires explanation. In the expansion from the intuition of sensation to intuition of categories, the signification fulfillment, the relationship between expression and intuition and the rapport of totality with parts are the keys to understanding that categories are self-given, and that it is intuition, rather than sensation, that lays the foundation. This, according to Husserl, is the enlightenment of knowledge. In fact, intuition, taken by Husserl as a route to the ideal of epistemology, opens the horizons of ontology appreciated by his successors.

Abstract:Treatise on Summum Bonum was an important work of Mou Zongsan,in which he tried to solve Kant's problem of the highest good.For this purpose,Mou Zongsan put an interpretation which I called 'given theory' on the forming principle of moral happiness illustrated by theory of being.As far as I am concerned,the principal source of moral happiness is not given by theory of being,it is a result of satisfying the inner requirement of morality.This is the so called 'satisfied theory'.The question whether given theory or satisfied theory should be chosen to explain the moral happiness needs very careful consideration.

Abstract:This paper is based on the Rule of Thirds which the present author has held fast to for many years to interpret the concept of self-negation raised by Mou Zongsan.By this rule,cultural structure can be divided into three different levels as carnal desire,wisdom,and morals.Chinese culture holds highly of morals while attaching less importance to wisdom.Thus in order to develop science and democracy,we have to rang kai yi bu(take a step aside),xia jiang ning ju(descend and condense),and meanwhile she zhi gui ren(subordinate intellect to morality),maintaining our own advantages.Mou Zongsan's concept of self-negation summarizes those contents and is absolutely meaningful.

Abstract:For Mou Zongsan,of all western philosophers,Kant had most similarities to Chinese philosophy. His view of moral self-discipline was much close to Mencius while Zhu Xi,who advocated moral other-discipline,was quite different from Kant. In fact,however,of all Confucianist philosophers,who was closest to Kant was not Mencius but Zhu Xi. Therefore,if we really intend to compare Confucianism with Kant's philosophy,it is not so proper to identify Kant with Mencius but with Zhu Xi.

Abstract:Fu Weixun's philosophy started with the questioning of Kant and their connection was Mou Zongsan. Fu Weixun held that the core of Kantianism was key to two doors but he was unsatisfied with the Kantian way of solving such problems. Mou Zongsan thought that Kantianism could not solve the problem of why man had the free will of morals because it lacked a thorough understanding of human heart. On the one hand Fu Weixun approved Mou Zongsan's understanding of Kant in this aspect, but on the other he thought key to two doors was too narrow. Thus, Fu Weixun favored key to multi-doors which accepted the pluralism of the worldly truth. This new idea could redress Mou Zongsan's partiality of moral idealism and dogmatism but its logical conclusion might finally break down some basic concepts of Kantianism. Therefore, the final solution to the problems of Kantianism should not follow the positivist approach of key to two doors but focus on life itself, which was Fu Weixun's approach to understanding life.
