Abstract:The 14th Global Chinese Conference on Computers in Education (GCCCE2010)was held in Nanyang TechnologyUniversity, Singapore, during June 1-4, 2010. The conference theme was Toward a New Era of Knowledge Creation, which signifiesthe GCCCE community’s renewed interest in further exploring the ICT as a "learning partner" to facilitate or enhance our young andadults learners’ self-directed learning, collaborative learning, and ultimately, knowledge building. There are nine sub-conferences:Mobile & Ubiquitous Learning; Joyful Learning & Society; Chinese e-Learning; CSCL & AI in Education; Construction of InnovativeLearning Environment & Design of Educational Software; Digital Assessment & Evaluation; Digital Learning and Human ResourceDevelopment; K-12 Teachers’ Forum; and doctoral forum. About 600 scholars from mainland of China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan,the United States, Malaysia, and Singapore participated in the GCCCE2010.

Abstract:Information and communication technologies, such as computer and Internet, have been changing people's lifestyle and communication manner fundamentally. Therefore, the 21st century brings both opportunities and challenges to traditional schools as well as traditional educational systems. With such background in mind, Hangzhou Normal University, together with American Kean University and College of Education, Zhejiang University, held a conference called "21st Century Learning @ the West Lake Expo" (October. 31-November, 4, 2009, Hangzhou). 21 international scholars and six famous Chinese scholars in area of educational technology were invited and totally they made 26 presentations, which covered five areas: ICT application in K-12 schools; virtual reality technologies in classroom; e-learning; mobile learning, and ICT-related teacher training. All presentations had contents related to technological innovation, educational leadership, and learning transformation.

Abstract:Aim/Purpose: This preface presents the papers included in the ninth issue of the Interdisciplinary Journal of e-Skills and Lifelong Learning (IJELL) special series of selected Chais Conference best papers. Background: The Chais Conference for the Study of Innovation and Learning Technologies: Learning in the Technological Era, is organized by the Research Center for Innovation in Learning Technologies, The Open University of Israel. The 12th Chais Conference was held at The Open University of Israel, Raanana, Israel, on February 14-15, 2017. Each year, selected papers of the Chais conference are expanded and published in IJELL. Methodology: A qualitative conceptual analysis of the themes and insights of the papers included in the ninth selection of IJELL special series of selected Chais Conference best papers. Contribution: The presentation of the papers of this selection emphasizes their novelty, as well as their main implications, describes current research issues, and chronicles the main themes within the discourse of learning technologies research, as reflected at the Chais 2017 conference. Findings: Contemporary research goes ‘beyond the walls of the classroom’ and investigates systemic and pedagogical aspects of integrating learning technologies in education on a large scale. Recommendation for Researchers: Researchers are encouraged to investigate broad aspects of seizing the opportunities and overcoming the challenges of integrating innovative technologies in education. Impact on Society: Effective application of learning technologies has a major potential to improve the well-being of individuals and societies. Future Research: The conceptual analysis of contemporary main themes of innovative learning technologies may provide researchers with novel directions for future research on various aspects of the effective utilization of learning technologies.

Abstract:Collaborative editing (CE) is an area of continuous research since early days of CSCW. Various CE systems have been studied in academia as research vehicles to investigate key technical issues in building advanced collaborative applications, and an increasing number of real-world CE systems are being developed in industry as Internet/Cloud-based CE systems/services, such as Google Docs/Wave, Subethaedit, CodoxWord, and IBM OpenCoWeb. This workshop aims to bring together CE academic researchers, industry developers, and end-users to discuss and exchange ideas on contemporary issues in researching, developing, and adopting CE systems. We have successfully organized this workshop annually at CSCW-related conferences. As CE systems are reaching more end-users, this year's workshop will, in addition to discussing classic CE technical topics, extend to cover issues that affect end-users' adoption of CE systems in their work such as privacy, security, usability, and social impacts of CE systems.

Abstract:This paper introduces the 9th Edition of the International Workshop on Software Engineering for E-Learning (ISELEAR'18), organized as a track of TEEM'18, the 6th International Conference on Technological Ecosystems for Enhancing Multiculturality. The main goal of ISELEAR is to explore the different methods, techniques and tools used for the systematic development of E-Learning ecosystems. In this way, and contrarily to the pedagogical aspects promoted by other events in E-Learning, ISELEAR is focused on the technical and engineering aspects of the software supporting these systems. This introduction describes the workshop's history, the review and selection process, and summarizes the papers accepted for this 2018 edition.
