Abstract:Information and communication technologies, such as computer and Internet, have been changing people's lifestyle and communication manner fundamentally. Therefore, the 21st century brings both opportunities and challenges to traditional schools as well as traditional educational systems. With such background in mind, Hangzhou Normal University, together with American Kean University and College of Education, Zhejiang University, held a conference called "21st Century Learning @ the West Lake Expo" (October. 31-November, 4, 2009, Hangzhou). 21 international scholars and six famous Chinese scholars in area of educational technology were invited and totally they made 26 presentations, which covered five areas: ICT application in K-12 schools; virtual reality technologies in classroom; e-learning; mobile learning, and ICT-related teacher training. All presentations had contents related to technological innovation, educational leadership, and learning transformation.

Abstract:It is our great pleasure to welcome you to the 2011 ACM International Workshop on Interactive Multimedia on Mobile and Portable Devices -- IMMPD'11. Following the successful events previously organized by the workshop organizers, this year's workshop brings together researchers from both academia and industry in domains including computer vision, audio and speech processing, machine learning, pattern recognition, communications, human-computer interaction, and media technology to share and discuss recent advances in interactive multimedia. The call for papers attracted 13 submissions from United States, Europe, Japan, Taiwan, and China. A number of leading companies, such as Nokia, NTT, and Sharp, contributed their recent research results. The program committee accepted 7 papers (6 regular papers and 1 poster paper) that cover a variety of topics, including mobile video streaming, interactive display, image/video summarization and organization on mobile devices, and mobile video browsing. We hope that these proceedings will serve as a valuable reference for researchers and developers in this field.

Abstract:Welcome to the Second International Conference on Internet Multimedia Computing and Service (ICIMCS 2010). The conference is organized by ACM SIGMM Beijing Chapter, and is hosted by Harbin Institute of Technology, with a technical cosponsor. ICIMCS 2010 is held from December 30 to 31 in Harbin, China, which focuses on a wide variety of key issues and investigates new approaches to tackle problems arising from fast-growing multimedia data on the internet and users' diverse requirement for multimedia service. ICIMCS 2010 is a forum for researchers from academia and the industry to exchange information on state-of-the-art internet multimedia information processing technologies and applications, as well as to identify emerging research topics and define the future of multimedia information computing from the internet. This year, we have received a total of 68 high quality submissions. Among them, only 14 were accepted as oral, 26 as poster and 8 as special session papers, for a total of 48 accepted papers. The acceptance rate for regular submissions is around 20.6% as oral and 38.2% as poster, excluding the special sessions where the majority is invited.

This year's workshop brings together researchers from both academia and industry in domains including computer vision, machine learning, audio and speech processing, communications, artificial intelligence and media technology to share and discuss recent advances in interactive user interfaces and multimedia applications. The call for papers attracted 22 submissions from Asia, Europe, and North America. A number of leading consumer electronics companies, such as Philips, Nokia, NXP and HP, contributed their recent research results. The program committee accepted 14 papers that cover a variety of topics, including Human Action/Activity Recognition, Video Shot Retrieval, Face Recognition, and Image Labeling, etc. Among the accepted papers, 7 are presented orally and the remaining 7 are in poster. In addition, the program includes two invited talks from leading researchers who are active in the area of interactive multimedia. We hope that these proceedings will serve as a valuable reference for multimedia researchers and developers.

Abstract:The goal of the conference is to bring together mobile systems, ubiquitous computing and multimedia experts. This year we received 66 research paper submissions around this topic. A rigorous review process was followed with each paper receiving three reviews from international experts. Based upon this process, twenty-one regular papers were selected to appear in these proceedings and to be presented at the conference. This results in an acceptance rate of 31.8% for 2011, compared to 62 submissions and 25 accepted long papers and 5 short papers 2010, resulting in an acceptance rate of 48.3%.

Abstract:Latest study shows that MCL is highly focusing paradigm for research particularity in distance and online education. MCL provides some features and functionalities for all participants to obtain the knowledge. Deployment of new emerging technologies and fast growing trends toward MCL boom attract people to develop learning management system, virtual learning environment and conference system with support of MCL. All these environments lack the most promising supportive framework. In addition some of major challenges in open, large scale, dynamic and heterogeneous environments are not still handled in developing MCL for education and other organizations. These issues includes such as knowledge sharing, faster delivery of contents, request for modified contents, complete access to enterprise data warehouse, delivery of large rich multimedia contents (video-on-demand), asynchronous collaboration, synchronous collaboration, support for multi model, provision for archive updating, user friendly interface, middleware support and virtual support. To overcome these issues; the paper introduces novel framework for MCL consisting of four layers with many promising functional components, which provide access to users for obtaining required contents from enterprise data warehouse (EDW). Novel framework provides information regarding the course materials, easy access to check the grades and use of labs. The applications running on this framework give substantial feedback for collaboration such as exchange for delivery of communication contents including platform for group discussion, short message service (SMS), emails, audio, video and video-on-demand to obtain on-line information to students and other persons who will be part of collaboration.

Abstract:The explosively growing momentum behind worldwide broadband deployment and the emerging convergence of voice, image, video and data services offer the base for various modern multimedia applications and services such as mobile TV, multimedia messenger and blog, social networking, video conferencing, Internet gaming, interactive TV, IPTV, and multimedia visualization, navigation, management, search and retrieval. The advances of computing and communication over wired and wireless networks and new technologies ranging from multimedia coding, network infrastructure, content distribution protocols, quality of service (QoS) management to post-processing and analysis, have stimulated more diversified multimedia applications and services. IPTV, in particular, built on managed IP networks, is growing rapidly in commercial deployments targeting at providing high quality video viewing experience that is at least as good as what is offered by today's cable/satellite/broadcastTV. The workshop represents the story continued on the First IEEE International Workshop on IP Multimedia Communications (IPMC) and the second International Workshop on Multimedia Analysis and Processing (IMAP). Each paper went through at least two peer reviews by members of the Technical Program Committee as well as additional reviewers. These reviews provided detailed comments on the quality of the submitted papers. Based on these stringent reviews, we accept seven papers for presentation and publication.

Therefore, in order to better meet the needs of future wireless users, there is an urgent need for more intelligent wireless communication technologies. Intelligent communication systems and networks make communication networks to evolve from the simple transfer and exchange of information to the intelligent storage and processing of information. The intelligent communication system and network introduce more artificial intelligence in the communication network, thereby improving the service processing capability and adaptability of the communication network, and providing services required for various users at any time. It is a system that can generate and implement new services quickly, easily, flexibly, economically and efficiently. Therefore, intelligent communication systems and networks have great room for development in making wireless communication systems intelligent.
