Abstract:Collaborative editing (CE) is an area of continuous research since early days of CSCW. Various CE systems have been studied in academia as research vehicles to investigate key technical issues in building advanced collaborative applications, and an increasing number of real-world CE systems are being developed in industry as Internet/Cloud-based CE systems/services, such as Google Docs/Wave, Subethaedit, CodoxWord, and IBM OpenCoWeb. This workshop aims to bring together CE academic researchers, industry developers, and end-users to discuss and exchange ideas on contemporary issues in researching, developing, and adopting CE systems. We have successfully organized this workshop annually at CSCW-related conferences. As CE systems are reaching more end-users, this year's workshop will, in addition to discussing classic CE technical topics, extend to cover issues that affect end-users' adoption of CE systems in their work such as privacy, security, usability, and social impacts of CE systems.

Abstract:Aim/Purpose: This preface presents the papers included in the ninth issue of the Interdisciplinary Journal of e-Skills and Lifelong Learning (IJELL) special series of selected Chais Conference best papers. Background: The Chais Conference for the Study of Innovation and Learning Technologies: Learning in the Technological Era, is organized by the Research Center for Innovation in Learning Technologies, The Open University of Israel. The 12th Chais Conference was held at The Open University of Israel, Raanana, Israel, on February 14-15, 2017. Each year, selected papers of the Chais conference are expanded and published in IJELL. Methodology: A qualitative conceptual analysis of the themes and insights of the papers included in the ninth selection of IJELL special series of selected Chais Conference best papers. Contribution: The presentation of the papers of this selection emphasizes their novelty, as well as their main implications, describes current research issues, and chronicles the main themes within the discourse of learning technologies research, as reflected at the Chais 2017 conference. Findings: Contemporary research goes ‘beyond the walls of the classroom’ and investigates systemic and pedagogical aspects of integrating learning technologies in education on a large scale. Recommendation for Researchers: Researchers are encouraged to investigate broad aspects of seizing the opportunities and overcoming the challenges of integrating innovative technologies in education. Impact on Society: Effective application of learning technologies has a major potential to improve the well-being of individuals and societies. Future Research: The conceptual analysis of contemporary main themes of innovative learning technologies may provide researchers with novel directions for future research on various aspects of the effective utilization of learning technologies.

Abstract:The application of computers in teaching experienced a course from programmed instruction to computer assisted instruction(CAI).Currently,it is developing from intelligent computer assisted instruction(ICAI)to adaptive learning support(ALS).Because ICAI system over emphasizes indealized instruction,it is difficult to overcome the contradictions between technology realization and application effect for many years.ALS system both exerts the advantage of ICAI system and pays attention to the adaptive support for learning,which is a research hotspot of the current cyber learning platform intellectualization.As a cross research field,CAI should pay attention to learn from the new idea,new technology and new method of other disciplines,taking the cognitive theory of multimedia learning as its guiding ideology.

Abstract:Interest in collaborative editing (CE) has seen a dramatic rise in recent years. The ubiquity of cloud services, crowdsourcing, and mobile devices means that today's Internet citizens are increasingly accustomed to producing and editing data in a shared network environment. While systems such as Google Drive, Microsoft Web Apps, Apache Wave and Codoxware allow users to collaboratively edit shared information, they have just begun to scratch the surface of CE's full potential. In the coming years, users will expect to be able to collaboratively create, share, and edit documents and data in a dynamic, real-time, and intuitive manor. This workshop aims to connect researchers, developers, and users to help explore the future of CE in tomorrow's information landscape. This year's workshop focuses on how researchers and industry practitioners can work together to accelerate delivery of CE capabilities to meet the needs of the typical information-age user.

Abstract:Intelligent computer-assisted language learning (ICALL) is a multidisciplinary area of research that combines natural language processing (NLP), intelligent tutoring system (ITS), second language acquisition (SLA), and foreign language teaching and learning (FLTL). Intelligent tutoring systems (ITS) are able to provide a personalized approach to learning by assuming the role of a real teacher/expert who adapts and steers the learning process according to the specific needs of each learner. This article reviews and discusses the issues surrounding the development and use of ITSs for language learning and teaching. First, the authors look at ICALL history: its evolution from CALL. Second, issues in ICALL research and integration will be discussed. Third, they will explain how artificial intelligence (AI) techniques are being implemented in language education as ITS and intelligent language tutoring systems (ITLS). Finally, the successful integration and development of ITLS will be explained in detail.

Abstract:This volume contains the proceedings of FOCLASA 2014, the 13th International Workshop on the Foundations of Coordination Languages and Self-Adaptive Systems. FOCLASA 2014 was held in Rome, Italy, on September 9, 2014 as a satellite event of CONCUR 2014, the 25th International Conference on Concurrency Theory. Modern software systems are distributed, concurrent, mobile, and often involve composition of heterogeneous components and stand-alone services. Service coordination and self-adaptation constitute the core characteristics of distributed and service-oriented systems. Coordination languages and formal approaches to modelling and reasoning about self-adaptive behaviour help to simplify the development of complex distributed service-based systems, enable functional correctness proofs and improve reusability and maintainability of such systems. The goal of the FOCLASA workshop is to put together researchers and practitioners of the aforementioned fields, to share and identify common problems, and to devise general solutions in the context of coordination languages and self-adaptive systems.

Abstract:Modeling and system design for web-based collaborative learning system (WebICL) was described in this paper. There are two main sections are referred, one is system framework modeling and another is systematic framework of WebICL. WebICL system was modeled and designed based on collaborative learning theory and collaborative learning process. The objective of WebICL is to design and implement a flexible and integrated collaborative learning system to facilitate student learning in web-based learning environment. In system framework modeling section, six components are designed, which they are register, learning group, knowledge learning, teacher's role, evaluation, and collaborative learning tools. These six components are integrated in the systematic framework together.
