Abstract:In the presence of triphenylphosphine, copper(II) chloride can catalyze an intermolecular ortho-acylation reaction of phenols with aryl aldehydes. The reaction proceeds smoothly with a wide range of starting materials, and furthermore, it can be used to synthesize xanthone derivatives in a single step in high yields.

Abstract:Herein, we reported the first copper-catalyzed highly efficient C(sp2)-H functionalization of unprotected naphthols and phenols with α-aryl-α-diazoesters. In this transformation, CuCl2 efficiently promoted the highly chemo- and site-selective C-H bond functionalization under mild conditions, furnishing diverse phenol derivatives in moderate to excellent yields from readily available starting materials.

Abstract:A general and efficient protocol for the synthesis of 9,10-phenanthraquinone derivatives has been successfully developed involving a copper(0)/Selectfluor system-promoted oxidative carbon-carbon bond cleavage/annulation of o-aryl chalcones. A variety of substituted 9,10-phenanthraquinones were synthesized in moderate to good yields under mild reaction conditions.

Abstract:A copper-catalyzed oxidative cyclization of vinyl azides with benzylic C-sp3-H bonds via a tandem dual C-H functionalization process has been developed. This procedure allows access to substituted phenanthridines containing a variety of functional groups. In addition to benzyl hydrocarbons, other substrates containing unactivated C-sp3-H bonds, such as ethers and alkanes could also be applied successfully to this transformation.
