Abstract:A simple and efficient copper-catalyzed method for the synthesis of 11H-benzo[a]carbazoles has been developed. The protocol uses readily available substituted 2-(2-bromophenyl)-1H-indoles and ketones as starting materials and an inexpensive catalyst system. The corresponding 11H-benzo[a] carbazoles were obtained in moderate to excellent yields.

Abstract:A cobalt and copper catalyzed reaction protocol has been developed to achieve the oxidative C-H/N-H annulation of benzamides containing an 8-aminoquinoline moiety as the directing group with ketones. Structurally diverse isoindolin-1-ones were furnished by the reaction of various substituent benzamides with ketones.

Abstract:We report herein an efficient synthesis of 3‐arylbenzothiazolin‐2‐one compounds. First, substituted benzothiazoles can be smoothly oxidized to benzothiazolin‐2‐one derivatives in the presence of CuCl2 and trifluoroacetic anhydride. Secondly, the Cu2S‐catalyzed N‐arylation of benzothiazolin‐2‐one with arylboronic acids yields a series of novel 3‐aryl benzothiazolin‐2‐one derivatives. The method provides good yields for a variety of substrates and shows good compatibility with functional groups. The usefulness of the skeleton was further illustrated by the derivatisation of 3‐aryl‐benzothiazolin‐2‐one. Mechanistic studies suggest that the oxidation of benzothiazole may undergo a free radical reaction process.

Abstract:Reported is the copper-catalyzed synthesis of substituted 2H-1,4-benzoxazin-3-(4H)-ones from 2-halophenols and acetamides. The first step is postulated to be a Cs2CO3-mediated nucleophilic displacement of the aliphatic halide (X²) by the phenol to give intermediate A, examples of which were isolated. This then undergoes an Ullmann-type coupling to give the final products.

Abstract:We have developed an efficient method for the synthesis of benzimidazoles via cascade reactions of o-haloacetoanilide derivatives with amidine hydrochlorides. The protocol uses 10 mol % CuBr as the catalyst, Cs2CO3 as the base, and DMSO as the solvent, and no ligand is required. The procedure proceeds via the sequential coupling of o-haloacetoanilide derivatives with amidines, hydrolysis of the intermediates (amides), and intramolecular cyclization with the loss of NH3 to give 2-substituted 1H-benzimidazoles.
