Abstract:A practical, efficient Pd(OAc)(2)/Cu(II)/PPh3 cocatalytic system has been developed. With only 1 mol% Pd(OAc)(2), 20 mol% copper(II) salt, and 0.5 equiv of inexpensive PPh3 as ligand, the direct arylation of benzoazoles with aryl bromides could be performed smoothly in mild condition, affording the desired arylated benzoazoles in good yields (75-93%).

Abstract:A Lewis-acid-promoted approach to the synthesis of highly functionalized dihydrobenzofuran derivatives was developed. A diverse range of functional groups are tolerated in this type of reaction. The reaction mechanism investigation indicates that the highly reactive phenyl cation intermediate is probably involved in this process. The chirality of substrate is retained under the reaction conditions.

Abstract:The asymmetric cross-coupling reaction is developed as a straightforward strategy toward 1,1-diaryl alkanes, which are a key skeleton in a series of natural products and bioactive molecules in recent years. Here we report an enantioselective benzylic C(sp(3))-H bond arylation via photoredox/nickel dual catalysis. Sterically hindered chiral biimidazoline ligands are designed for this asymmetric cross-coupling reaction. Readily available alkyl benzenes and aryl bromides with various functional groups tolerance can be easily and directly transferred to useful chiral 1,1-diaryl alkanes including pharmaceutical intermediates and bioactive molecules. This reaction proceeds smoothly under mild conditions without the use of external redox reagents.

Abstract:The first aryl iodide catalyzed intramolecular C-H amination of phenylurea has been disclosed for high-efficiency synthesis of benzimidazolone derivatives in excellent yields (up to 97%) by an operationally simple one-step organocatalytic oxidative process. Fluorinated protic alcohols can efficiently accelerate the conversion of this transformation. The straightforward method has good functional group tolerance and can be performed with an inexpensive and readily accessible catalyst with high proficiency.

Abstract:An efficient synthesis of novel fused heterocycles has been established via microwave-assisted palladium-catalyzed intramolecular direct arylation. The acyclic aryl bromides are readily available from microwave-assisted one-pot annulation of N-(2-bromobenzyl)-2-aminophenois and ethyl 2-bromoalkanoates. The intramolecular direct arylation is then performed in the presence of palladium(II) acetate and dppf (10 mol% each) in toluene using potassium carbonate (2 equiv) as the base under microwave heating (150 degrees C, 1 h) to afford the products in 43-99% yields. Steric effect is observed for Ar-Ar bond formation, giving a substantial amount of the debromination byproduct.

Abstract:Comprehensive Summary The asymmetric reductive arylation and alkenylation of benzylic chloride under photoredox/nickel dual catalysis using chiral biimidazoline (BiIm) ligand is reported to access 1,1-diaryl alkanes and aryl allylic compounds with good yield as well as stereo- and enantioselectivities. This protocol uses more commercially available and less expensive C(sp(2))-Br as the electrophile coupling partner. A primary result using alkenyl chloride and alkyl chloride is also reported. Various functional groups are tolerated and the applications of this method are investigated by late-stage functionalization and gram-scale reaction.

Abstract:Cu- or Fe-based catalyst systems have been reported to selectively catalyze the N,N-diarylation or N-monoarylation of benzoxazoles ring-opening with aryl iodides in the absence of additional added ligand in polyethylene glycol under an inert atmosphere. Two types of coupling products (triphenylamines and diphenylamines) have been examined and the reaction routes can be simply controlled by changing the metal salts (Cu or Fe) as catalyst. A range of substrates have been investigated for the diverse reactions, and the corresponding arylation products were achieved in good to high yields. This selective, low-cost, and environmentally friendly protocol displays great potential for replacing existing methodologies as well as extending the synthetic applications of benzoxazoles.

Abstract:We report an efficient palladium-catalyzed approach to the synthesis of benzoxazole derivatives via sequential heteroarylation/acylation reaction of iodobenzenes. Three readily available starting materials, iodobenzenes, anhydrides, and benzoxazoles, were smoothly coupled to form new C-C bonds at the ortho and ipso positions of the iodobenzenes to afford 2-heteroaryl-3-acylbenzene derivatives in good yields.

Abstract:We report herein an efficient synthesis of 3‐arylbenzothiazolin‐2‐one compounds. First, substituted benzothiazoles can be smoothly oxidized to benzothiazolin‐2‐one derivatives in the presence of CuCl2 and trifluoroacetic anhydride. Secondly, the Cu2S‐catalyzed N‐arylation of benzothiazolin‐2‐one with arylboronic acids yields a series of novel 3‐aryl benzothiazolin‐2‐one derivatives. The method provides good yields for a variety of substrates and shows good compatibility with functional groups. The usefulness of the skeleton was further illustrated by the derivatisation of 3‐aryl‐benzothiazolin‐2‐one. Mechanistic studies suggest that the oxidation of benzothiazole may undergo a free radical reaction process.

Abstract:Biaryls and bis-heterocycles can be synthesized conveniently,efficiently,and generally via palladium(0)-catalyzed homocoupling of aryl bromides with hexabutylditin as reductant.This method delivers biaryls in good to excellent yields in 15 min under controlled microwave irradiation.Various bromo-derivatives of electron-rich or electron-poor arenes and aromatic heterocycles including benzene,thiophene,furan,pyridine,thiazole,and pyrimidine are easily coupled.This homocoupling method is also applicable to the bromides of fused-ring arenes such as naphthalene,quinoline,benzothiophene,and indole.The procedure is compatible with various reactive functionalities such as hydroxy,amino,carboxyl,formyl,acyl,alkoxycarbonyl,nitro,and cyano groups.The reaction appears to proceed through in situ formation of an aryl tin,followed by a Stille coupling to the aryl bromide.

Abstract:The authors have recently disclosed conditions for Ullmann couplings of aryl halides with active methylene compounds. In this report they describe the asymmetric variant between aryl iodides and β -keto esters by using CuI and trans-4-hydroxy-l-proline. The reaction temperatures are the lowest reported for Ullmann-type couplings. Many substituents on the aryl ring are tolerated, particularly electron-donating ones, which provide the highest yields and ee values. The products are pharmaceutically desirable since they contain α-aryl all-carbon quaternary centers. Conversion into oxindoles is also attainable in two steps, though the first step is low-converting.

Abstract:Selective functionalizations of aryl C-H bonds in 2-arylpyridines have been developed via sequential borylation and aerobic oxidative copper catalysis, and the corresponding aryl halides, sulfones, azides and arylamines were obtained in good yields. The protocol uses cheap and readily available boron tribromide (BBr3) as the borylating reagent, and in-organic salts (potassium iodide, ammonium bromide, sodium alkylsulfinates, sodium azide) as the functional group sources. This method makes functionalizations of aryl C-H bonds easy.

Abstract:Conditions for the regioselective palladium-catalyzed direct arylation of a 6,7-difluorobenzo[d]imidazole using aryl bromides as the coupling partners are described. The site selectivity of the arylation was found to be in favor of the C2-carbon of the difluorobenzo[d]imidazole; whereas the difluoro-substituted ring remained untouched, even in the presence of an excess of aryl bromide.
