Abstract:2-Vinylbenzofurans have been synthesized via the copper-catalyzed one-pot, three-component reactions of o-iodophenols, in situ generated allenes, and dichloromethane. Cascade transformation of oxa-Michael addition, C-arylation, and sp(3)C-H/sp(3)C-Cl conversion-based vinylation has been involved in realizing the construction of this 2-vinylbenzofuran framework.

Abstract:A novel and efficient route for the synthesis of 2-(polyfluoroaryl)benzofurans via a copper(I)-catalyzed tandem reaction of 2-(2,2-dibromovinyl)phenol with polyfluoroarene is reported. The corresponding products are generated in good yields. During the reaction process, a copper-catalyzed intramolecular C-O bond formation and a C-H activation are involved.

Abstract:An iron-catalyzed procedure was employed to achieve both the Sonogashira cross-coupling and intramolecular o-arylation of o-iodophenols and aryl acetylenes/1-substituted-2-trimethylsilyl acetylenes. A variety of 2-arylbenzo[b]furans were synthesized in moderate to good yields under the catalysis of 5% FeCl3 and 10% 1,10-phenanthroline.

Abstract:A highly regio- and stereoselctive palladium-catalyzed domino reaction of functionalized aryl allyl ethers has been developed. Various aryl allyl ethers derived from the phosphine-catalyzed addition of electron-deficient allenes with phenol are found to be efficient substrates for the synthesis of 2-substituted 2,3-dihydrobenzofurans and indolines. It is the first example of aryl allyl ether used as an ideal and practical precursor of hard to get functionalized 1,3-butadiene for the heterocyclic compound synthesis.

Abstract:Although various methods for the preparation of dibenzofurans are available, an efficient, general synthesis of dibenzofurans from benzofurans remains an unsolved problem. Herein, we provide the first benzannulation of readily prepared 2‐nitrobenzofurans with alkylidene malononitriles. This methodology enables facile assembly of a wide variety of highly functionalized dibenzofurans in moderate to excellent yields under metal‐free conditions. Gram‐scale synthesis and further elaborations of the product were succesfully performed, demonstrating synthetic utility of this method.

Abstract:The 2,3‐dihydrobenzofuran ring systems are a privileged class of oxygen heterocycles, and their synthesis continues to attract considerable effort. Herein, a visible‐light‐driven photoredox‐catalyzed radical multicomponent cyclization of 2‐vinyl phenols, N ‐alkoxypyridinium salts, and sulfur ylides is described. Key to success of the reaction involves the use of both N ‐alkoxypyridinium salts and sulfur ylides as radical precursors. This redox‐neutral protocol features good functionality tolerance, easily available starting materials, simple operation, and mild reaction conditions, enabling modular synthesis of various 2,3‐disubstituted dihydrobenzofurans. Mechanistic studies have also elucidated some of the aspects associated with the key radical intermediates.
