Abstract:Whether the parameters used in the study of the mechanical structures and grouting parts of the test platform can be scaled or not is analyzed, with the help of the dimensional analysis method and by means of similar criteria and similar constant. The similarity of the test platform is described. Simulation is made to check the rationality of the parameters. The design method for the test platform of the simultaneous grouting system of shield is verified, by similarity theory and simulation analysis, to be rational. The paper can be used as the theoretical basis for the study on the test platform of the simultaneous grouting system of shield.

Abstract:Earth chamber,thrust device and simultaneous grouting device are designed,so as to study the research methods for the experimental device of simultaneous grouting test platform.A common design method for the earth chamber,thrust device and simultaneous grouting device is summarized on basis of related data in soil mechanics,hydraulic system and shield test platform,considering the conditions of the simultaneous grouting system and the external conditions of the shield machines.The conclusion drawn provides theoretical basis for the establishing of the simultaneous grouting test platform for shield machine in the future.
Influences of grouting heave on overlying structures in shield tunneling

Abstract:Through analysis of in-situ monitored ground surface movements due to shield tunnelling in construction of Hangzhou Qingchun Road Cross-river Tunnel,it was found that the transversal ground surface heave induced by tail grouting follows the Gaussian curve pattern.Based on the traditional Peck equation,a generalized Peck equation that takes the grouting heave into account was proposed,which can predict and back-analyze the shield tunnelling-induced ground surface movements including grouting heave inside with great accuracy.Based on the limiting tensile strain method,the combined influences of ground loss and tail grouting on overlying structures were studied.In the case study,the optimum grouting volume was explored.The case study showed that the key to minimize tunnelling's damage to overlying structures is to increase the factor of grouting,while additional grouting is harmful to the structures' safety.

Abstract:Additional thrust at the excavation face,friction force imposed on the around soils by shield skin and excess pressure of tail grouting can cause ground surface movements.Based on Mindlin solution,ground surface displacements induced by these three forces are calculated through numerical integration.The calculation results are verified by case studies of in-situ monitored ground surface movements in construction of Hangzhou Qingchun road river-crossing tunnel.The analysis results indicate that superposition of ground loss settlement and calculated movements due to above three forces based on Mindlin solution can be used to predict ground surface heave and subsidence induced by shield tunnelling.Ground surface heave of cross-section caused by shield tail synchronous grouting accords with Gaussian distribution.A modified Peck equation taking grouting impact into account is proposed.Compared with the conversional Peck method,modified Peck equation is able to predict ground surface heave induced by shield tunnelling;and the fitting parameters of ground surface subsidence through back analysis are more accurate.

Abstract:In order to research on control characteristic of shield thrust hydraulic system,a simulating platform of the system was designed.The design procedures of test platform were analyzed in detail,from the two aspects of mechanical structure and hydraulic system,and experimental analysis was done on the platform,considering the control characteristic of it.The experimental results prove the veracity of designing scheme and reliability of control property of the platform.

Abstract:In engineering practice, the situations of shield tunnel across the pipelines will often be encountered. Previous research work has always focused on the effect of various parameters of shield tunnel vertically or parallel across the pipeline. Meanwhile, there is a lack of information considering the influence of various parameters on the shield tunnel passing through the pipeline with an angle. The numerical study based on the Hangzhou metro project was carried out that investigated the effect of angle between tunnel and pipeline and different construction conditions on the pipeline. The reasonable angle and construction conditions were achieved and expected to be helpful for designers and constructors in future projects.

Abstract:It is inevitable for a shield to deviate from the designed route during tunnelling in soft soils, which may result in the concentration of stress in segments, segment cracking and excessive ground settlement. Based on measured data from a shield tunnel of the Hangzhou metro project, this paper analyzes the shield's vertical atti-tude variation in a typical Hangzhou soft-soil layer and gives corresponding control measures. The results show that: 1) it is inevitable for the shield to be tilted with a negative pitch angle during segment erection; 2) during shield driving, an effective way of adjusting the pitch angle is to control the deviation correction moment since the pitch angle is sensitive to deviation correction moment variation; and 3) adjustment of the shield attitude is a dy-namic process, so it needs to be planned in detail and implemented patiently.

Abstract:Shield is a kind of technology concentrated, large scale equipment dedicated in underground tunnel excavation that combines diversified technologies and subjects such as mechanics, electrics, hydraulics, measurement and control into one machine. Propelling system is the key system of a shield. It fulfills the thrusting operation of the shield and functions turning, curved traveling, posture controlling, direction correcting and synchronous movement. The hydraulic propelling system combining pressure control and flow control is designed using hydroelectric proportional control technology. Its work principle and system composition are expatiated in the article. Controls of thrust pressure and trust speed of the system is studied on shield simulation test bench. The test verified that the hydraulic propelling system developed could control thrust pressure and thrust speed in real time and meet the requirements of shield in different geological conditions.

Abstract:In shield tunnel engineering, there is no uniform standard for the selection of backfill grouting materials and ratios. In this study, to facilitate the selection of a grout, the applications of grout types, materials, and ratios were summarized based on a statistical analysis of engineering cases. Through laboratory tests and range analysis, the relationships among the basic grout performance and ratios were examined. The reference values of the grout ratios and performance requirements in different strata were obtained using statistical methods and by regression analysis. The results showed that the grout type used in engineering is mainly a single-component grout; in strata with groundwater, the usage rate of modified grouts is significantly high. The single-component grout ratio for clay is the most affected by groundwater; for all strata, the change in the B/S ratio is the most significant. The W/B ratio is the most important factor affecting the basic grout performance, and the demand for compressive strength varies the most in all strata.

Abstract:The causes of water inflow and sand bursting on starting shaft disaster in shield tunnel were analyzed, the FEM calculation models that groundwater seepage from substratum of the reinforced soil to gap in shaft wall and construction on starting shaft in shield tunneling were both established. Using the semi-confined aquifer seepage theory and Midas-GTS software, an example was given. The assumption was that the reinforced soil was complete exclusion of water and the accident of water inflow and sand bursting in portal part was influenced by the length of reinforced soil and groundwater level. The cost and safety of starting shaft engineering had positive correlation with the length of reinforced soil. Lowering the groundwater can significantly reduce water inflow disaster.

Abstract:Shield tunnels will inevitably pass through viaduct piles at a close distance due to the extensive construction of subways and viaducts in the city. In order to understand the influence of shield tunneling on the deformation of existing pile foundation and grouting protection measures, based on an engineering case, Changsha Metro Line 5 (from South Gaoqiao station to Guitang station), a three-dimensional finite element model was established to analyze the deformation of bridge pile using grouting protection wall with different depths and shapes when the shield tunnel is under construction. The analytical results indicate that the grouting protection wall can effectively reduce the pile displacement; especially the grouting depth is 3 m below the bottom of the tunnel. Moreover, the L-shaped grouting protection wall can effectively reduce the longitudinal displacement of the piles. The present findings may provide a reference for the design and construction of shield tunnels passing through viaduct piles.

Abstract:The causes of piping and sand boiling of shield launching are analyzed; a model that groundwater permeates from reinforced soil pervious underlying layer to wall is established. Using semi-confined aquifer seepage theory, an example is given to demonstrate that, supposing that the reinforced soil is impervious, the accident that water and sand inflows from tunnel portal is influenced by range of soil reinforcement, groundwater level and the gap of wall; the cost and safety of engineering have the positive correlation with the length of reinforced soil; the depth of reinforcement isn't so deep but reasonable; the gap of wall also plays a key controlling role to shield launching's safety. The factors are mutual constraint; construction parameters are influenced by security, economy and time limit for a project.

Abstract:Design and computation were carried out for the main parameters of hydraulic thrust system of shield simulated test platform aimed at its functional requirements.Working principle and control strategy of hydraulic thrust system were analyzed.Simulation analysis of thrust pressure was also done.The results show that the designed hydraulic thrust system is reliable,thrust pressure and thrust displacement are also controlled by the proportional pressure and displacement compound control strategy.

Abstract:<p>Grouting is one of the most important auxiliary methods for shield tunnel, and there are huge differences of constituent materials and properties of grouts for different strata. To provide comprehensive insight into grouts for shield tunnel, this paper reviewed constituent materials and typical properties of grouts, and summarized various applications of grouts in recent decades. In this paper, grouts for shield tunnel were divided into lime-based grouts, cement-based grouts and double liquid grouts, the former was used in stable strata, and the latter two was used in soft soil strata, water-rich strata and other special strata. Fresh-state properties and mechanical properties were the basic performance requirements of grouts for shield tunnel, along with scour resistance and durability of grouts was also considered. Lime, cement, sand and water, industrial residue and special soil were the main constituent materials of grouts for shield tunnel, and superplasticizers and dispersion resistance agents were the two most important chemical additives. There are various influencing factors found within properties of grouts for shield tunnel, hence why many kinds of chemical additives and curing methods are used to achieve the best results for the environmental challenges present. The main performance defects of grouts for shield tunnel were as follows: lime-based grouts had low strength, cement-based grouts had poor fluidity, and double liquid grouts had poor durability. Furthermore, suggestions for future research on the grouts for shield tunnel were provided.</p>

Abstract:Synchronous grouting is the key factor causing segment floating during the construction of shield tunnel, especially the grout ratio and the control of the grouting pressure. In this paper, the ratio of grout material was optimized through multiple groups of physical and mechanical tests. The results showed that 0.3% content of water reducing agent in grout could improve the ability of water resistance significantly. 2.9% content of bentonite could reduce bleeding rate of grout and grout setting time and improve the fluidity in the meantime. Then, the distribution law of grout along the segment ring in the filling stage was studied based on a typical underwater tunnel in China. The results showed that the theoretical calculation of grouting pressure was between 0.15 MPa and 0.18 MPa, which were in good agreement with the measured data. The grouting pressure distribution is affected by four parts including the lateral earth pressure, foundation reaction, grout shear stress, and gravity.

Abstract:The disaster causes of gushing water and sand during shield departure from shaft are analyzed; and the finite element model of shield departure construction is established using Midas-GTS software. Considering coupled seepage and stress of shield departure construction, the groundwater permeates from reinforced soil around underlying layer to wall is analyzed; and the settlement of the undisturbed soil in front of the reinforced soil is studied. An example is given to demonstrate that: supposing the reinforced soil is impervious, the accident that water and sand inflows from tunnel portal is influenced by length of soil reinforcement and groundwater level; increasing the length of reinforced soil is good for engineering safety; but the cost is high. Decreasing the groundwater level could reduce the disaster of gushing water and sand during shield departure from shaft. Reasonable construction parameters for a project are determined by taking into account of economy, security and time limit.

Abstract:The analytical formula of grouting pressure for quasi-rectangular shield is derived, which is more complex than it for circular shield.The influencing factors and corresponding reasons of grout pressure distribution in the special-shaped space are analysed.The fluid motion law of synchronous grouting along unconventional path in shield tail void is revealed clearly.The pressure distribution patterns of grout along the circumferential and longitudinal directions are obtained.Considering that the particular geometric shape of a quasi-rectangular shield, the grout flowing law and its motion process are more complicated than those of a conventional circular shield. To interpret the grouting mechanical behavior in the special-shape shield tail void, the filling and diffusion mechanism of synchronous grouting was analysed. The grout flowing is separated into two independent motion processes, which contains a circumferential filling and a longitudinal diffusion. The theoretical model of the grout pressure spatial distribution was derived based on the principle of fluid mechanics. Then, the pressure distributions in the two directions were obtained using a case study and compared with the field measured data to verify the validation of the model. Although the overall spatial pattern of grout pressure distribution on the tunnel profile show a change trend dominated by the self-weight effect mostly, its local fluctuation characteristics is very abnormal relative to that of a circular shield tunnel. Moreover, the important factors in the model were analysed, including the grout material parameters, the grouting construction parameters, and some geometry parameters. The results show that the pressure loss along this way is positively correlated with the grout flow velocity and is sensitive to the shear yield stress of the grout. The pressure loss along the circumferential direction is the most sensitive to the thickness of the ring cake, and the value range suitable for the model should be 0.02–0.03 m. The pressure loss along the longitudinal diffusion direction is the most sensitive to the size of the tail void. The research results can provide a theoretical basis for the control of special-shape shield construction.

Abstract:During the process of full section surrounding rock shield tunneling, the occurrence of synchronous grout escaping can seriously affect the assembly quality of the detached shield tail segment ring. The segment is prone to quality accidents such as floating, misalignment of the tunnel pipes, and even cracking, and even a large number of rock fractures in the shield tail gap mix with water flow towards the excavation face and pressure chamber, leading to frequent fissure water gushing out of the screw conveyor. Taking the shield tunnelling section of Nanjing Metro Line 6 as the engineering background, this paper uses the finite element software Ansys Fluent to establish the two-phases flow shield tail escaping grout model, and analyzes the influence laws of the grout properties, grouting pressure difference, grouting escaping thickness and other factors in the process of grout escaping behind the shield tail wall based on Bingham fluid. The results show that the amount of synchronized grout escaping increases linearly with the increase of grouting pressure difference and grouting escaping thickness, and decreases with the increase of grout shear yield stress. The paper also discusses the three-dimensional curved surface of grout escaping volume, grouting pressure difference and grouting fluid properties behind shield tunnel tail in a full section surrounding rock shield project of Nanjing Line 6, and gives the measures to prevent grout escaping when the allowable grout escaping volume is not more than 1m 3 : when the grouting escaping thickness is 20mm, the grouting pressure difference should be controlled within 0.20∼0.25MPa, and the shear yield stress of the grouting fluid should be controlled within 300∼350Pa.
