Abstract:Flue gas temperature deviation at the exit of furnace is investigated for large tangential firing boiler. Based on the mechanism analyses and operation parameters of combustion system, the new concept of volume heat load of upper furnace is introduced initiatively. For the 600MW, 300 MW, 200 MW units, the maximum values of volume heat load of upper furnace are given as much as 0.85106kJ/m3h, 0.95106kJ/m3h ,1.05106kJ/m3h. some measures of reducing flue gas temperature deviation are introduced based on the new concept,, such as shifting down position of tertiary air, tilting down upper group burner, shutting down or decreasing the top primary etc. The results of some boilers reform show that the measures are very effective.

Abstract:According the increasing demand of variable load, this paper presents that the hot-water regenerative cycle system should be introduced into the existing heat-engine plants and the new technique of integrated generation will be brought into being. When in low-load period at night, some excessive fuel and water are input and the hot water extracted from high-pressure heaters is deposited in some tanks, thus the nocturnal load is increased. When in high-load period in daytime, the hot water stored in tanks can be retaken into the integrated generate units to meet the demand of load variation, reduce the times of units' start and stop and alliviate the heat fatigue waste of equipments such as rotor and drum. This paper emphatically analyzes the system composition and the definition and selection of the main parameters. Also, according a 600 MW turbo-unit in some native power plant, it commits some analysis and computation and the outcome will become the foundation for further research.
STUDY ON ELIMINATING FIRE-CARRYING IN PRIMARY AIR JET ORIFICE BY ADMIXING EXHAUST GAS

Abstract:In view of troublesome problems influencing upon the safety of lowgrade bituminous coal firing boilers with hot air for sending pulverized coal and centralized allocatioin of the primary air, such as firecarrying in the primary air jet orifice, and slagging on the waterwall in zone of burners etc., occured after enhancement of volatile and heat value in the coal, a scheme for solving the said problems by admixing exhaust gas has been put forward. The results of design calculation combined with typical boilers, as well as test and study on the admixer of exhaust gas and hot air show that the exhaust gas can be admixed with hot air in a large proportional range, making the implementation of the said scheme to be possible.
Experimental research on the fire-carrying problems in primary air nozzle of 125 MW units

Abstract:The safe operation of 125 MW units with hot-air conveying pulverized coal and centralized primary air is affected by the following problems such as fire-carrying in the primary air nozzle and slagging on the water-wall around burners etc. with the increasing of volatile and heat value. Generally, the pressurized cold air is added to prevent the fire-carrying, however, the exhaust gas temperature is increased by 15 ℃ or so than normal condition and the boiler efficiency reducing about 1%. Another effective way to eliminate fire-carrying is to use thick/thin phase burner to re-design the structure, with large circumferential, reducing the bluff body and adjusting the tangential of the primary incorporation. The practical application of #10 boiler in the TianShengGang Power Plant indicated that the fire-carrying problem was solved effectively without adding cold air, in spite of the volatile and heat value of the coal were somewhat increased, and the carbon fraction in fly ash and exhaust gas temperature decreased by 2.55% and 20.5 ℃ respectively, the boiler efficiency increased 2.69%. Based on this, the direct annual economic benefits will be more than 4 million, and the coal adaptability and stable combustion ability can be improved greatly.

Abstract:In this paper, systematic experimental investigation on the heat flux distribution inside the furnace of a 300MW CFB boiler was presented. Detailed experimental setup and measurement techniques were presented and a finite element method approach was applied to determine the heat flux. The heat flux profile on the rear wall along the horizontal direction shows a significant imbalance at different boiler loads. As a result of the non-uniform layout of the heating surfaces, which is the essential reason, as well as the imbalance and deviation of the temperature field, solid suspension density and solid flow rate, the central section of the furnace possesses higher heat flux distribution compared to the side sections. The heat flux is also found to increase with the increasing boiler load and decrease as the height increases. Heat flux near the roof, where the solid suspension density is rather small, is found to decrease remarkably revealing less heat absorption in this area. In addition, an empirical model of heat transfer coefficient is revised using the average data at different boiler loads. A mechanism heat transfer model based on the membrane water-wall configuration is proposed and validated with the heat flux profile obtained from the measurement. The model provides good accuracy for correlating 85% of the data within ±10%.

Abstract:A 3D coupled mathematical model of 1 000 MW ultra-supercritical tower boiler was established. Based on the design parameters of the boiler, the model calculated the flow and heat transfer process of the boiler in operation. The model was used to simulate different load conditions of the supercritical boiler. The boiler maximum continuous rating (BMCR) condition, 75% BMCR condition and 50% BMCR condition were selected to explore the heat transfer during peak shaving operation. By analyzing the temperature and heat flux distribution in the furnace and the temperature distribution in the tube and on the water cooled wall, it is found that the temperature and heat flux change of the BMCR, 75% BMCR are in the similar trend while the temperature change of the 50% BMCR is irregular, and the heat transfer deterioration is prone to occur in the spiral water cooled wall region.

Abstract:With the development of power plant units of higher capacity and with improved parameters, the proportion of high-capacity units for generating power has increased; this requires large capacity units to take responsibility for power-grid peak shaving. When the boiler operates at low loads, the working fluid in the boiler water wall tubes is subjected to high heat flux in the furnace, which can cause heat transfer deterioration, tube overheating or even leakage. Therefore, it is particularly important to study the reliability of the boiler hydrodynamic cycle during peak shaving (low load operation). This study takes a 1000 MW ultra-supercritical single-reheat Π type boiler with single furnace and double tangential firing as the research object. A furnace Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and hydrodynamic coupling analysis model is established and verified according to the actual operating conditions on site. The calculation results show that the simulated value is in good agreement with the actual operating value. Therefore, the model established in this study can reflect the real situation of the on-site furnace to a certain extent, and has high reliability. Based on the fitting results, the causes of steam temperature deviation of the boiler water wall are analyzed, and measures to reduce the deviation are proposed to provide a necessary basis for power plant operation and boiler design.

Abstract:In order to provide the parameter determination method of primary air fan for 1 025 t/h-class CFB boiler, the theoretical research and field measurement were performed on several boilers. Based on these, the determination method was proposed, including the air flow of primary air fans should be 120% as much as that of BMCR flow; the pressure head mainly depends on the designed operation condition (TB point) with the consideration of low-load condition, BMCR condition and bed flop condition; the margin of pressure head can be determined based on different conditions. This method has been used in the engineering practice and has significant advantages over conventional determination method, such as lower pressure head, safe and reliable operation and less plant power consumption.

Abstract:Considering the features of heating surface arrangement,the furnace of large(ultra)supercritical coal-fired boilers was divided into a free volume region and a platen heating surface region,to which some key parameters previously calculated according to the former Soviet Union Standard 1973 were corrected,such as the effective radiation thickness,radiative absorption coefficient and the flame center height coefficient,etc.On above basis,a one-dimensional zonal thermal calculation method was proposed,which was used for in-furnace heat transfer calculation of four 600 MW supercritical coal-fired boilers and two1 000 MW ultra-supercritical coal-fired boilers.Results show that the error of outlet flue gas temperature between design value and calculated result obtained by the proposed method is obviously less than that by the former Soviet Union Standard 1973,indicating that the method can meet the accuracy requirement of actual engineering projects.

Abstract:A heat flux determination method of combined thermal-hydraulics inside the waterwall tubes and thermal process on the furnace gas-solid side (HFW) is presented in this study, for the purpose of a detailed understanding of heat transfer characteristics on heating surface. The method consists of three main steps: 1. gas-solid hydrodynamic simulation by means of the Eulerian-Eulerian model; 2. bed-to wall heat transfer coefficient calculation based on cluster renewal model; and 3. coupling thermal hydraulic calculation at supercritical condition. Due to the effect of metal temperature on bed to wall heat transfer coefficient, it will be computed iteratively in latter two steps. By this method, the three-dimensional distributions of fluid temperature and heat flux in a 1000 MW supercritical circulating fluidized bed (CFB) boiler were presented. Results showed that fluid temperature increased with the increase of the furnace height, and the heat flux distributed uniformly along the width of furnace. In addition, the effect of operating parameters on fluid temperature profile was also studied. It turned out that fluid mass flux, inlet temperature and furnace temperature had a significant impact on temperature distribution along the tubes. (C) 2016 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
Effects of flue gas recirculation on combustion and heat flux distribution in 660 MW double-reheat tower-type boiler

Abstract:The ultra-supercritical double-reheat boiler has attracted more attention because of high parameters (steam with high temperature and pressure), low pollution and large capacity. However, there are some difficulties in the development of this technology, such as adjusting the reheat steam temperature. In this study, computational fluid dynamics simulation is used to analyze a 660 MW double-reheat tower-type pulverized coal-fired boiler. The influence of flue gas recirculation (FGR) on heat transfer characteristics and combustion process in the furnace (including heating surfaces in the upper parts of the furnace) are evaluated. The user-defined function approach predicates the CO reduction effect on NOx. The results show that the flow at the horizontal section through the centerline of recirculating flus gas nozzles is rotating. The velocity distribution changes into an elliptical rotating flow when FGR ratio is 20%. At higher FGR ratios, the high-temperature area (1565–1700 K) shrinks and both the NOx concentration at the low-temperature superheater outlet and the O2 concentration in the burner zone descend. The O2 concentration at the low-temperature superheater outlet first increases and then decreases. In the main combustion zone, the heat flux peak of water-cooled wall is about 330 kW m−2. As FGR ratio increases from 0% to 20%, the rate of heat absorption of water-cooled wall to that of total boiler decreases by 3.50%. These rates for reheater and superheater increase by 2.53% and 2.13%, respectively.

Abstract:A study of the heat transfer about the heating surface of three commercial 300 MWe CFB boilers was conducted in this work. The heat transfer coefficients of the platen heating surface, the external heat exchanger (EHE) and cyclone separator were calculated according to the relative operation data at different boiler loads. Moreover, the heat transfer coefficient of the waterwall was calculated by heat balance of the hot circuit of the CFB boiler. With the boiler capacity increasing, the heat transfer coefficients of these heating surface increases, and the heat transfer coefficient of the water wall is higher than that of the platen heating surface. The heat transfer coefficient of the EHE is the highest in high boiler load, the heat transfer coefficient of the cyclone separator is the lowest. Because the fired coal is different from the design coal in No.1 boiler, the ash content of the fired coal is much lower than that of the design coal. The heat transfer coefficients which calculated with the operation data are lower than the previous design value and that is the reason why the bed temperature is rather high during the boiler operation in No.1 boiler.

Abstract:There is no uniform performance test rule and standard calculation method for efficiency improvement of a system that utilizes waste heat from flue gas and it is mainly carried out through turbine parameters, without considering boiler system performance. Given the above problem, in this paper, the steam turbine, boiler and waste heat from the flue gas step-up utilization system are calculated by establishing a thermal model of ultra-supercritical secondary reheating 1000 MW unit. At the same time, unit design data and field performance test results are used for verification. Analysis comparing simulation outcomes with experimental data revealed that the discrepancies in the heat consumption rate per unit, the efficiency of the boiler, and the rate of coal consumption for power generation peaked at a marginal variance of 0.2%. The optimum operating parameters of the system for low-grade flue gas recovery in a cascading manner are obtained through variable operating condition calculations. The optimum value of high-pressure bypass feed-water flow rate is 52 kg/s at 970 MW operating condition. At the same time, the difference between high-pressure bypass effluent and high plus effluent temperatures should be controlled to be close to 0°C, and the optimal value of low-pressure bypass condensate flow rate is 53 kg/s. As the flow of flue gas in the bypass increases, the efficiency of heat exchange in the bypass economizer also increases, resulting in greater absorption of heat in the utilization apparatus for flue gas waste heat, leading to a more effective energy-saving outcome. However, it is necessary to regulate the temperature of both the primary and secondary air to levels that exceed the minimum requirements for the safe functioning of the coal mill.

Abstract:The gas-solid hydrodynamics in a 600 MW CFB boiler furnace was investigated numerically with the FLUENT software by using the two-fluid model combined with the kinetic theory of granular flow. 3D distribution of heat transfer coefficient on the water wall and partition wall was obtained by using the cluster renewal model inputting the gas-solid velocity and density profiles. Results show that two core-annulus flow structures exist in the furnace. Clusters with downward particle velocities exist on the surfaces of both water wall and partition wall. The gas-solid flow field has significant influence on the heat transfer coefficient, especially for the solid concentration. For water wall and partition wall, with the increase of furnace height, the fractional wall coverage, convection heat transfer coefficient, the total heat transfer coefficient and the heat flux decrease, and the radiation heat transfer coefficient increases. Abstract:More and more CFB boilers with large capacity and ultra-tall furnaces are used for power generation. Understanding the fluid dynamics in the ultra-tall furnace is important. However, existing studies on fluid dynamics in the CFB furnace are limited to the risers with rather short height. An experimental study was conducted with a cold CFB test rig of 240mm in I.D. and 38m and 54m in height respectively. The influences of total solid inventory Iv, and fluidizing gas velocity Ug on the axial voidage profile along the riser and solid circulation rate Gs were investigated. Experimental results showed that when Ug exceeded the transport velocity, an S-shaped voidage profile characterized by fast fluidization was established in the riser. In such circumstance, the voidage at top dilute section kept constant and Gs reached saturation carrying capacity (Gs=Gs⁎) and inappreciably change with riser height and Iv. Moreover, Gs⁎ increased from 40kg to 50kg when the riser height increased from 38m to 54m. The results indicated that even for the 600MWe supercritical CFB boiler with a 54m tall furnace, only a modest increase of Iv and power of forced draft fans is needed to obtain high enough Gs to meet the requirements of heating surfaces arrangement in furnace and the circulation loop. The necessary conditions to form the S-shaped profile of voidage in the riser were also discussed.
Analysis of the Heating-surface Wall Temperature Characteristics of a CFB (circulating Fluidized Bed) Boiler Wing Wall

Abstract:With the three wing wall typical structures of a circulating fluidized bed boiler serving as an example,namely,51×5mm,42×5mm and 38×5mm,analyzed was the influence of mass flow rate and parameters of the working medium on the wall temperature.It has been found that the mass flow rate is a dominant factor for securing a safe operation of the heating surfaces.The temperature difference between the wall surface and working medium decreases with an increase of the mass flow rate.The influence of the tubing structure and the outlet temperature of the working medium on the temperature difference between the wall surface and working medium is not evident,the influence of the tubing structure on the fin temperature,however,is relatively obvious.The pressure only affects the wall temperature to a certain extent.To consider both the safe and economic operation of a boiler at low loads,it is recommended that the design mass flow rate inside the wing wall heating surface should be chosen at a value not lower than 750 kg/m2·s.The research results can well provide reference for the safe operation of wing wall heating surfaces.

Abstract:To enhance the peak-shaving capability of a boiler, a mathematical model of hydrodynamic and wall temperature characteristics for the water-cooled wall of a 1000 MW boiler was established. Utilizing the component pressure method, the mass flow distribution, outlet working fluid temperature, pressure loss, and wall temperature distribution characteristics of the water-cooled walls at 30% of the boiler's maximum continuous rating (BMCR) were calculated and analyzed. The findings suggest that, under the operation at 30% BMCR load, there is a substantial equilibrium in the flow distribution across the quartet of walls that constitute the water-cooled wall assembly. The maximum mass flow rate deviations in the helical and vertical sections are 1.95% and 3.47%, respectively, showing small flow deviations and reasonable distribution. The temperature deviation in the helical section is 0.3 °C, reflecting the characteristic low thermal deviation in helical tubes. While the temperature deviation at the outlet of the vertical section is higher, it remains within safe limits. The pressure loss across the water-cooled wall system amounts to 0.4 MPa. The peak wall temperature reaches 337.5 °C, remaining within the material's permissible safety limits. Through an in-depth performance analysis, the hydrodynamic operational safety under 30% BMCR deep peak-shaving load is ensured.

Abstract:The heat transfer of the platen heating surface of circulating fluidized bed (CFB) boilers is a complex process. Because of technical protection and difficult measurement, at present there is no public calculation method which can be applied to engineering. Three 300MW CFB boilers in actual operation in different field sites were conducted, the parameters of temperature and pressure at the side of steam and flue gas were measured respectively. Based on the tests at different loads, the effects of solids suspension concentration and average temperature parameters etc. on the heat transfer were investigated, and then the heat transfer coefficient calculation model of platen heating surface at the flue gas side was established, which takes the effects of structure and dimension of platen heating surface, furnace temperature, steam temperature, heat transfer coefficient at the steam side, emissivity of tube wall and fluidization velocity etc. into consideration. The field test data obtained from another 300MW CFB boiler were used to verify the model. After comparing the calculated results and the values from the actual field test, it is found that the error is lower than 5%, which is within the precision permission range of engineering application. It is indicated that the calculation results using this model agree well with the experimental results on the site, confirming the reliability of this heat transfer model, which means that it can be used to calculate the heat transfer of platen heating surface of 300MW CFB boiler and can provide reference for design, commissioning, operation of 300MW CFB boilers.

Abstract:The recycled heat potential of hot air is analyzed on the basis of present status of hot air in high-temperature area of 4# boiler in a power plant of Zhejiang. A novel feasibility program is proposed and furthermore, the hot air recycled unit is developed. The pipe arrangement plan as well as recycled heat and coal conservation is given below. With that unit, the temperature of combustor and side wall flame observation platform could be lowered so that the operation environment is improved. On the other hand, the economical efficiency all over the plant is increased.
