Abstract:Mr. Tsien Ling Chao (1906—1999) was a famous Chinese physicist and historian of science in modern China. He had made significant contributions to promoting the research on plastic deformation of crystals, electron microscopy and history of science. At the same time, he is admired by many scholars for his outstanding organizational skill in scientific research and also for his superb instructional talent. The academic accomplishments of Mr. Tsien Ling Chao have undoubtedly added lustre to the present stage of science education in China. The chronicle of Tsien Ling Chao's life is specially written in commemorating the 100th anniversary of his birthday.

Abstract:ZHAO Li-sheng,who shocked the worldby his legendary and rebellious life,is an erudite scholar,making contributions to many academic domains,especially to the research in the history of Chinese peasant revolution,land distribution system and other ideological and cultural fields.As a distinguished history professor,he cultivated a large number of talents by erudite knowledge,profound thought,heuristic teaching,and outstanding teaching techniques. Together with his wife GAO Zhao-yi,he underwent the Anti-Japanese War,and overcame countless difficulties in his life,and achieved a great reputation for model husband and wife in the academic circle.

Abstract:Mr.Huang Shouqi,who has passed away for more than twenty years,is well-known as many different identities,including a specialist on contemporary Chinese language and literature,an educator,an expert of Yi-ology,and a brilliant classical poet with a lot of good works.On the basis of reviewing the extraordinary academic experience of his whole life,and exploring of his distinctive human spirit and charisma,this article will further discuss his academic achievements in the fields of Yi-ology,the study of Confucian Classics,Literature and other aspects.Through all the above,the article aims to help public to get a more comprehensive and in-depth understanding of the famous Confucian scholar of the twentieth century,thus can contribute to better inheritation and spread of the excellent traditional Chinese wisdom and culture.

Abstract:Professor Guo Xiaolan (Hsiao Lan Kuo), a worldwide famous scholar in atmospheric sciences, originally came from China in 1940's, passed away on May 6, 2006 at his age of 91 in Chicago, the USA. Professor Guo's brief biography and contributions to atmospheric sciences in the several decades with his hard work are summarized on the basis of his more than 70 representative papers selected by the authors. His main creative and leading achievements introduced include the theory of dynamic instability in the atmosphere, theories of the formation of the general circulation and the large scale thermally driven circulation, dynamic theories of mesoscale convection and vortex, and low latitude and tropical dynamics. The parameterization schemes for physical processes in numerical models developed by Prof. Guo, and the results of the numerical modeling of topographic dynamic and thermal effects of the Tibetan Plateau on weather and climate are also introduced. It is evidently seen from those introductions that Prof. Guo made superexcellent contributions to atmospheric sciences and education. Prof. Guo is our model, from whom we, his posterity, can learn a lot of things. May Prof. Guo rest in peace!

Abstract:Bian Zhilin(1910 - 2000), born in Haimen, Jiangsu, was a scholar, translator, and poet with great achievements in modern literature history. He was enrolled in the English department of Beijing University after he graduated from Pudong Middle School in 1929. After his graduation he lived on writing and translating, joining in initiating the magazine of Water Star. During the Anti-Japanese War he taught in Sichuan University and South West United University. From 1947 to 1948 he stayed in Britain since he was awarded Sojourn Research Prize by British Council. At the beginning of 1949, he was employed in the Western Language Department of Beijing University. Not long after that he was admitted to Foreign Literature Research Institute, China Academy of Social Science, researching into and translating tragedies by Shakespeare. His poems, based on the Eastern and Western traditions, have a style of his own. As one of the forerunners of modern Chinese poetry, he was popular in his time and influenced greatly the poets in the 1940s. Today he is still influential both at home and abroad.

Abstract:Qian Sanqiang played a crucial role in the development of science of science in China.He advanced the founding of the Research Association of Science of Science and Science and Technology Policies as well as the construction of academic publication and academic degree.Meanwhile,he promoted the spreading of science of science thought.He attached great importance of the research of science of science’s basic theoretical problems,standardization and innovation of the research approaches.What’s more,he put emphasis on building science of science’s theory with Chinese characteristics.After the Cultural Revolution,China’s science and technology was no longer developed in a mere aspect,but improved in an all-round way.The famous scientist’s soft science orientation in this period is generated owing to personal interests,but also the inevitability of time development.

Abstract:We celebrate the legacies of our friend and mentor Professor Lianshou Liu who was one of the pioneers for the phenomenology of multi-particle interactions and initiated the physics of relativistic heavy-ion collisions in China. In this article, we discuss some of the recent exciting experimental observations on the collective phenomena including collectivity, chirality, criticality, strangeness production, and thermal equilibrium in high-energy nuclear collisions. Future directions, especially the physics at high baryon density, will be discussed with a focus on the first-order phase boundary and hyperon–nucleon interactions.

Abstract:Through reviewing the original journals,we researched the cases of how Wisscn und Wissenschaft and Science had supported Luogeng Hua.Under the instruction of editors from Wisscn und Wissenschaft and Science,Luogeng Hua had written a whole research paper to indicate the mistakes of Su's paper and had vaulted into prominence.Finally,Hua had become a famous mathematician from a self-educated young people under the support of many scientists such as Qinglai Xiong.Our conclusion is that the scientific journals not only can transform science information,but also have the function of training persons with ability.And,the editors should have not only skilled editing capability but also certain scientific knowledge.

Abstract:This paper makes a chronological review of Mr. LIN Yao-hua's studies on ethnic groups in Southwest China as well as his work in identifying ethnic groups of Yunnan and investigating the social history of China's ethnic minorities in 1950s. By reinterpreting these works of his in a contemporary academic perspective, this paper holds that as a pioneer in ethnological studies in China, Mr. LIN started out in Southwest China, and has made great contribution to the study of ethnic groups in Southwest China and the establishment of an academic paradigm of studying ethnic minorities.
