Abstract:In conjunction with our research article in this issue of Chem, this essay is in memory of Professor Wei Jiang, a rising star in supramolecular chemistry who passed away on December 25th, 2022, from pancreatic cancer. We briefly summarize his research on bionic molecular recognition in water with diverse naphthotubes and their applications in multiple disciplines. Abstract:ZHAO Li-sheng,who shocked the worldby his legendary and rebellious life,is an erudite scholar,making contributions to many academic domains,especially to the research in the history of Chinese peasant revolution,land distribution system and other ideological and cultural fields.As a distinguished history professor,he cultivated a large number of talents by erudite knowledge,profound thought,heuristic teaching,and outstanding teaching techniques. Together with his wife GAO Zhao-yi,he underwent the Anti-Japanese War,and overcame countless difficulties in his life,and achieved a great reputation for model husband and wife in the academic circle.

Abstract:Prof. Wang Weiqi passed away on 26 August 2022, in Shanghai, China, at the age of 83 due to a heart attack. He will be remembered as a pioneer of biomedical ultrasonics in China, a highly respected colleague in the ultrasound research community, and an influential role model of perseverance, dedication, and excellence for students and academic peers at Fudan University, Shanghai, his alma mater and academic home since 1956.

Abstract:It is with great sadness that we have learned of the death on February 13, 2014 of Professor Toshisuke Hirano, who was a “father of AOAFST”. At the occasion of the 10th Asia-Oceania Symposium on Fire Science and Technology (10th AOSFST), we share the memories of Prof. Hirano and renew his will on the progress of fire science. In this article, his achievements are summarized, such as the activities in academic societies, achievements on scientific researches, major awards received, and so on. The eulogies given by Prof. Wan-Ki Chow (Hong Kong), Prof. Bogdan Dlugogorski (Australia) and Prof. Patrick van Hees (Sweden), and Prof. Jinhua Sun (China) are included in this article.

Abstract:Dr. Jingzhu Zhao served as the Editor-In-Chief of the International Journal of Sustainable Development and World Ecology from 2010 to 2021. He was faithful to this journal and focused on editorial work during his tenure. His broad vision of sustainable development, sweeping views on ecological research, and strenuous efforts ensured the journal's success. Prof. Zhao suffered from severe rheumatoid arthritis for 15 years, but the constant pain did not prevent him from working hard. Even when diagnosed with pancreatic cancer at the end of June 2021, he kept up with his editorial duties for three more weeks. On 4 August 2021, Dr. Zhao passed away in Beijing, leaving all who knew him greatly saddened.

Abstract:Our respectful old friend Professor Ting-Peng Liang (in short, TP) whom we loved suddenly passed away on May 20, 2021. But we cannot forget his smile and passion, and his inerasable footprints in PACIS, PAJAIS, and AIS Community. He was the founder of PACIS, founding editor-in-chief of PAJAIS, and past president of AIS to list just a few. He was the pioneer who received the first AIS Fellow and the first LEO Award from Asia Pacific. Abstract:Professor Marjorie Perloff was a distinguished scholar, poetry critic, and theorist. Her profound insights and unique perspectives on modern and contempo-rary American poetry have earned her high recognition in the international academic community. She was not only an Emeritus Professor at Stanford University and the University of Southern California but also a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and a fellow of the American Philosophical Society. Her research spanned multiple fields, with outstanding achievements particularly in avant-garde poetry and modernist and postmodernist theory. Her works, including The Poetics of Indeterminacy: Rimbaud to Cage, Radical Artifice: Writing Poetry in the Age of Me-dia, Infrathin: An Experiment in Micropoetics, have not only provided new perspec-tives for understanding modern poetry but also advanced the development of poetry theory, establishing leading theories such as the poetics of indeterminacy and micro-poetics. Professor Perloff also served as the long-term president of China-American Association for Poetry and Poetics, actively promoting cultural exchange between China and the United States and fostering deep cooperation in the field of poetry research. Though Professor Perloff passed away, she has left behind us a valuable academic legacy. We will always keep her in our hearts.

Abstract:Professor Guo Xiaolan (Hsiao Lan Kuo), a worldwide famous scholar in atmospheric sciences, originally came from China in 1940's, passed away on May 6, 2006 at his age of 91 in Chicago, the USA. Professor Guo's brief biography and contributions to atmospheric sciences in the several decades with his hard work are summarized on the basis of his more than 70 representative papers selected by the authors. His main creative and leading achievements introduced include the theory of dynamic instability in the atmosphere, theories of the formation of the general circulation and the large scale thermally driven circulation, dynamic theories of mesoscale convection and vortex, and low latitude and tropical dynamics. The parameterization schemes for physical processes in numerical models developed by Prof. Guo, and the results of the numerical modeling of topographic dynamic and thermal effects of the Tibetan Plateau on weather and climate are also introduced. It is evidently seen from those introductions that Prof. Guo made superexcellent contributions to atmospheric sciences and education. Prof. Guo is our model, from whom we, his posterity, can learn a lot of things. May Prof. Guo rest in peace!
