Abstract:As in other countries, Einstein has been one of the most famous scientists in China. In 1970's the three volumes Collection of Einstein in Chinese have been selected, translated and published, which was the main sources for Chinese people knowing Einstein for long time, and even had important ideological influence. However as the background of it, in China, there were very influential political movements related to criticism of science after 1949, which also influenced the decision, selection, progress and the way of the translating and publishing of Einstein works,. Among the editors and translators, XU Liangying was a special and important person, who was originally a underground revolutionist before establishment of the Republic, and latterly became a historian of science. He spent nearly ten years to finish the most translation when he was a real peasant in countryside and a "righty" because of the "anti-righty" movement. During the translating work and the publication of Collection of Einstein in that special social, cultural and political context then, there were many things worth to look back and analyze their meanings by a historical perspective reflection. Especially, the ideological symbolic implication related to the Einstein has been a very dominant characteristic in the history mentioned here.

Abstract:The World Year of Physics (2005) is an international celebration to commemorate the one hundredth anniversary of Einstein's "Annus Mirabilis". The United Nations has officially declared 2005 the International Year of Physics. However, the impact of Einstein's ideas was not restricted to physics. Among numerous other disciplines, Einstein also made significant and specific contributions to Earth Sciences. His geosciences-related letters, comments, and scientific articles, are dispersed, not easily accesible and are poorly known. The present review attempts to integrate them, as a tribute to Einstein in commemoration of this centenary. These contributions can be classified into three basic areas: geodynamics, geological (planetary) catastrophism and fluvial geomorphology.

Abstract:Year 2005 was the World Year of Physics, and it was commemorated worldwide as the 100th anniversary of Albert Einstein's legendary works in which the foundations of at least three areas of modern physics were laid: statistical mechanics, quantum mechanics and special relativity. These works turned year 1905 in what deservedly was called the "miraculous year" (annus mirabilis) of Einstein. However, the influence of this great mind was not limited to science. As it is well known, his fingerprint remains engraved in many aspects of our daily life. Because of that, in this work we have tried to cover almost all the subjects in which Einstein was involved during the last century and, of course, try and reveal the future projection his actions will have in this new century that has just begun. Among the subjects covered in the volume one can find the possible connection between Einstein and the artistic vanguard movement, his religiosity, his days in Argentina, the Nobel Prize, the Einstein-Freud correspondence, his pacifism and the nuclear energy, science and politics under the Second Empire and the Weimar Republic, and even a description of his patents and experiments, the studies performed to search for "built-in" features in his brain and the doubts many had regarding whether Einstein was a genius or a crank. Also included are essays on Einstein and Borges, philosophy and relativity, Mach's principle, the relation among science, arts and humanities, and, closer to Einstein's own theoretical research, the twin paradox, chance and quantum mechanics, the arrow of time, gravitational lenses, string theory, holography and black holes, gravitomagnetism, superconductivity, gravitational waves, the photoelectric effect and the alternative theories for gravitation.

Abstract:Mr. Tsien Ling Chao (1906—1999) was a famous Chinese physicist and historian of science in modern China. He had made significant contributions to promoting the research on plastic deformation of crystals, electron microscopy and history of science. At the same time, he is admired by many scholars for his outstanding organizational skill in scientific research and also for his superb instructional talent. The academic accomplishments of Mr. Tsien Ling Chao have undoubtedly added lustre to the present stage of science education in China. The chronicle of Tsien Ling Chao's life is specially written in commemorating the 100th anniversary of his birthday.

Abstract:The 1980 Guangzhou Conference on Theoretical Particle Physics is a turning point in the development of particle physics in China.By investigating the background,process,and results of this meeting,this article discusses its academic significance,as well as its social and political influence.Being held under the special circumstances of a country recovering from the Cultural Revolution,this symposium not only brought new chances to particle physics in China,but also proved to be an important breakthrough for Chinese academic circle to open the door for external communication.Some politically or socially sensitive issues also emerged during the conference.The above issues have great significance for the history of science,technology and politics of China.

Abstract:In Europe (e.g., in Italy), and in the States, the opinion is widely spreading that the negative consequences of modern progress are the fault of "Science". A lively debate on this topic took place among the famous writer Leonardo Sciascia and Italian physicists like Edoardo Amaldi and Emilio Segre', when Sciascia wrote his known book about the disappearance of Ettore Majorana, a book that presented Majorana (a very reserved theoretical physicist) as an example of the scientist that keeps his discoveries secret when afraid of possible evil applications. We wish to contribute now to such a question, since many special meetings did recently return to it, while celebrating the centenary of Majorana's birth (2006), or 30 years (2005) from Sciascia's book publication. It appeared natural to us to start with the figure of Einstein, who, even if extremely peaceable, supported the atomic bomb construction by his letter to Roosvelt. We discuss first the significance of part of Einsteins's scientific work (which flourished in particular one century ago): We seize this opportunity for presenting a derivation of the "twins paradox", so simple that it has been taught to Senior High School last-year students or University undergraduate students; all the present work, more in general, is addressed mainly to them. In the second part of this paper, we analyse the general meaning of Einstein's contributions to philosophy and pedagogy. The third part is entirely devoted to our main subject, i.e., to discussing the "Responsibility of the Intellectuals". The reader interested chiefly in this last part, can find it re-expounded in a self-contained way in the Appendix. More information in the Contents of this article.

Abstract:It is well-known that Einstein was most satisfied with his scientific discovery of general relativity. For this famous discovery, when he visited the Grand Canyon of the United States in 1931, the Hopi Indians praised him with the name of the “Great Relative.” However, do we really understand all of Einstein’s scientific thoughts? Herein, we introduce Einstein from the unfamiliar perspectives of principle theory, the success/failure system, and the cosmos, and we summarise our related series of work. The aim of this paper is to direct the general public and the scientific community to personally experience the scientific discovery of the mesocosmos as a solution to the problem of the cosmos, and to recognise this proposed new twenty-first century science. In an academic market where scientists and humanity sell and buy a great volume of bewildering scientific data, language, and mathematics without feeling amazement and awe at new fundamental and significant scientific discoveries, we suggest personally experiencing Einstein’s scientific thoughts, spreading this experiential gospel, and researching the cosmos in the era of the experience economy.

Abstract:Aim Through the relevant historical material study,to arrange and analyze the life,achievements and effects of Zeng Jiong(1897—1940).Methods Document research and concept analyzing.Results Following E.Noether(1882—1935)in Gttingen and E.Artin(1898—1962) in Hamburg,Zeng Jiong mastered the advanced Abstract algebra,and published three important papers,which resulted in Zeng Theorems and Zeng Level.After coming back to China,he worked firstly in Zhejiang University,then in Tianjin Northern Universiy-Xi′an National Temporary University-Northwest National Associated University-Northwest National Engineering College,and lastly in Xikang National Technical School.Conclusion Zeng Theorems and Zeng Level not only laid the foundation of the transcendental extension of Brauer group,made the Hilbert 17th problem obtain the historic quantitative breakthrough,but also helped Chinese mathematics enter the mainstream of the world mathematics in the 1930′s and be close to the international advanced mathematics education.

Abstract:Chien-Shiung Wu, one of the most accomplished physicists of the 20th century, helped conifrm the theory of parity nonconservation of weak interaction advocated by Tsung-Dao Lee and Chen Ning Yang with experiments, who were jointly awarded the 1957 Nobel Prize in Physics f or their theoretical work. But Wu did not share the prize. Despite this, Wu’s contributions to science cannot be neglected, and what should be focused on about Wu is her spirit. In scientiifc research, she displayed her devotion to science, her courage to overcome various obstacles meticulously, and her creativity in experiment. She also entertained a righteous value on scientiifc ethics. Apart f rom scientiifc research, Wu dedicated her life to education and tried to change the prejudice of society against women.

Abstract:We wrote this paper in memory of David H. Jonassen,who passed away two years ago,for his great contributions to educational technology. This paper summarized Jonassenu0027s works and achievements according to data from both international and Chinese literature. Particularly,we analyzed his articles and books through citation charts.Four keywords were used for our analysis: learning,problem solving,cognitive tools,and learning environment. As the basis of citations from Chinese literature databases,we emphasized his influence on educational informationization in China and compared it with other countries. Together with Chinese translations from Jonassenu0027s books and articles,we summarized the impacts of his theory and practice in China,including national policies,smart learning environment,and e- textbook / e- schoolbag. His personal charisma and research accomplishments have inspired many scholars and will continue to be a role model for future scholars. As a giant in the area of educational technology,Jonassen will be remembered forever.

Abstract:The year 1905 has been called Albert Einstein’s “Annus Mirabilis.” It was during that year that he caused revolutionary changes in man’s primordial concepts about the physical world: space, time, energy, light and matter. How could a 26-year-old clerk, previously unknown, cause such profound conceptual changes, and thereby open the door to the era of modern scientific technological world? No one, of course, can answer that question. But one can, perhaps, analyze some factors that were essential to his stepping into such a historic role. First of all, Einstein was extraordinary lucky: he was born at the right time, and was at the peak of his creative powers when the world of physics was shuddering from multiple crises. In other words, there was the lucky opportunity for him to change the course of physics, an opportunity unmatched, perhaps, since the time of Newton. Such lucky opportunities occur very very infrequently. In E. T. Bell’s Man of Mathematics, Lagrange (1736–1813) was quoted as having said:

Abstract:We review the physics at the end of the nineteenth century and summarize the process of the establishment of Special Relativity by Albert Einstein in brief. Following in the giant's footsteps, we outline the scientific method which helps to do research. We give some examples in illustration of this method. We discuss the origin of quantum physics and string theory in its early years of development. The discoveries of the neutrino and the correct model of solar system are also present.
