Abstract:We demonstrate a femtosecond Yb:fiber laser amplification system which delivers 97 W average output power at a repetition rate of 1.08 GHz using a rod-type photonic crystal fiber. Abstract:We report femtosecond pulse generation in an amplifier similariton oscillator and a prechirped fiber amplifier system. The final output power is 1.4W, and the fundamental repetition rate is 19.1 MHz after a single state fiber amplifier. The pulsewidth is 109 fs.

Abstract:A pulsed laser for laser guide stars with a 100 MHz repetition rate and 1 ns pulse width was achieved by external modulation of a continuous wave (CW) laser with a 70 kHz spectrum width. The laser is amplified first by two fiber pre-amplifiers and then by four solid-state power amplifiers. The laser achieves gains as high as 36 dB in the fiber pre-amplifiers due to the long gain medium length. The output power from the fiber amplifiers is 2.1 W. The laser receives further amplification in the solid-state amplifiers and retains good beam quality by aberration compensation. The final output average power is 102.9 W, and the beam quality factor M-2 is 1.46. The laser reaches high power without spectrum width and pulse width broadening at the 100 MHz repetition rate. The spectrum width of the pulsed laser is less than 0.8 GHz, which is close to the Fourier transform limit. Such a laser with single-frequency, high-repetition, and high-power features along with good beam quality will be valuable for many research areas. (C) 2014 Optical Society of America

Abstract:We demonstrate 503MHz fundamental high repetition rate operation in a ring cavity passively mode-locked Yb:fiber laser incorporating a novel wavelength-division-multiplexing collimator and a piece of all-solid photonic bandgap fiber. The Yb doped fiber was directly fabricated as one fiber pigtail into the functional collimator, greatly shortening the cavity length and facilitating the splicing operation. A 5cm long photonic bandgap fiber with abnormal dispersion at the lasing wavelength (centered at 1030nm) decreases the net dispersion for shorter output pulses. The spectral bandwidth of the pulse was 34nm. The direct output pulse was measured to be 156fs and the dechirped pulse was about 76fs. With this innovative Yb:fiber pigtailed WDM collimator, the ring cavity laser has the potential to work at a repetition rate up to GHz.

Abstract:In this paper a single-channel chirped pulse amplification laser system based on Yb-doped photonic crystal fiber was constructed, which achieved a pulse energy output of 1 mJ with a beam quality close to the diffraction limit. Pulsed synchronous pumping was used to suppress amplified spontaneous emission at a repetition rate of 1 kHz. The de-chirped pulse width of 231 fs was achieved by precise systematic dispersion control, and the corresponding peak power reached 3.85 GW.

Abstract:The octave-spanning spectrum was generated in a tellurite glass based microstructured fiber pumped by a 528 MHz repetition rate Yb:fiber ring laser without amplification. The laser achieved 40% output optical-to-optical efficiency with the output power of 410 mW. By adjusting the grating pair in the cavity, this oscillator can work at different cavity dispersion regimes with the shortest dechirped pulse width of 46 fs. The output pulses were then launched into a high-nonlinearity tellurite fiber, which has the zero-dispersion wavelength at ~1 μm. The high nonlinearity coefficient (1348 km⁻¹W⁻¹) and the matched zero-dispersion wavelength with pump laser enable the octave-spanning supercontinuum generated from 750 nm to 1700 nm with the coupled pulse energy above 10 pJ.

Abstract:In this paper, we reported an Yb-doped, femtosecond, chirped pulse amplification laser based on strictly all-fiber structure. It operated at a low repetition rate of 1 kHz and adopted the synchronously pumping technology to suppress ASE and heat accumulation. A chirped fiber Bragg grating providing adjustable dispersion is used as the pulse stretcher. High order dispersion induced by fiber, grating pair in the system was compensated accurately. Laser pulse with duration of 180 fs and energy of 112 μJ has been obtained. In addition, it has a high long-term stability of energy and a good beam quality, corresponding to energy fluctuation of 0.62% in an hour and M2 factor of 1.15, respectively.

Abstract:We reported a 26 W linearly polarized single-mode Yb-doped photonic crystal fiber amplifier, working at 80 kHz repetition rate with 4.5 ns duration, corresponding 72 kW peak power. Using a acousto-optic Q-switched Nd:YVO4 laser as the seed source, the 26 W average power of 1064 nm laser was obtained at a repetition rate of 80 kHz from a Yb-doped photonic crystal fiber amplifier, with 4.5 ns duration, polarization extinction ratio 11 dB and M 2 < 1.2.

Abstract:We report on the fiber-based amplification of a flash lamp pumped Q-switched Nd:YAG laser. At a repetition rate of 10 Hz and spectrum width of 0.1 nm, an output single pulse energy of up to 12 mJ is generated in a 95 mu m core Yb-doped large mode area fiber with a seed pulse energy of 0.75 mJ and pulse duration of 11 ns. No stimulated Brillouin scattering, stimulated Raman scattering or saturation are observed. Furthermore, higher pulse energies will be achieved with higher pump powers.

Abstract:We demonstrate a broadband fiber amplifier system emitting 10nm pulses with 33mJ pulse energy at repetition rates between 1 and 20Hz. In combination with a pulse width of 10ns, a corresponding peak output power over than 3MW was achieved. This record performance was enabled by fiber with core diameter of 200μm. Furthermore, in order to suppress amplified spontaneous emission (ASE), multi-stage pulse pump technology was applied and different pumping characteristics had been measured. Finally, 15% extraction efficiency was obtained when output energy reached 33mJ. Output capability of the amplifier was not limited by SBS and ASE but the pump peak power.
