Abstract:A compact Er:fiber ring laser operated at a fundamental repetition rate of 325 MHz is reported. Two gain fibers with opposite dispersion are employed to shorten the fiber laser cavity for high repetition rate and soliton-like pulse generation without losing gain and compactness. The spectral bandwidth of the output pulse is 24 nm and the direct pulse duration is 123 fs without extra-cavity compression, which are values near the transform-limited range.

Abstract:High-repetition-rate fiber laser has widely applications in the field of femtosecond frequency comb, ultra-fast optical sampling, and so on. In this paper, an Er-doped femtosecond fiber laser with a repetition rate of 303 MHz is demonstrated based on the mechanism of nonlinear polarization rotation. By means of optimization of cavity dispersion, the net dispersion in fiber cavity is a little negative nearby zero point. After mode locking, the laser is operating in the stretched-pulse regime. At a pump power of 817 mW, the output power of the laser is 125 mW in continue-wave state, and 69 mW in mode-locking state. The laser directly generates 90 fs before dispersion compensation. Mode locking can self-start at the pump power of 700-817 mW. Repetition rate drift of the mode-locked laser is 30 Hz in five hours.

Abstract:High repetition rate fiber lasers have attracted great attention in recent years due to their potential applications including spectroscopy and laser processing. In this manuscript, we have demon-strated sub-30 fs pulses directly from a compact Er-doped fiber laser amplifier system with a high repetition rate of ∼203 MHz. The design of the laser comprises of a home-built oscillator based on nonlinear polarization evolution mode-locking mechanism, an all-fiber amplifier, and a fiber type compressor. By optimizing the length of single mode fiber compressor, the shortest pulse duration of 26 fs is achieved, which is ∼4.9 optical cycle at 1570 nm. The average output power of the de-chirped pulse is 267 mW with corresponding pulse energy of 1.3 nJ. Such a high repetition rate fiber laser with few-cycle pulse holds tremendous potential for numerous applications that require high temporal resolution, and high photon flux.

Abstract:We experimentally demonstrate direct generation of 51 nJ, 284-fs ultrashort pulses in an all-fiber cavity-optimized erbium-doped laser with a low repetition rate of 2.68 MHz. The conversion efficiency of the laser is about 10%. The laser is mode-locked by nonlinear polarization rotation. Such high energy and ultrashort duration benefits from using large output ratio (90%), elongating the cavity length, dispersion management, and bidirectional high-power pumping in the laser. Further decreasing the net dispersion of the laser by using a dispersion-compensated fiber can reduce the pulse duration to 160 fs. In addition, variation of spectral width due to an invisible filter in the laser is experimentally demonstrated.

Abstract:This letter demonstrates an experimental realization of effective dispersion and nonlinearity optimization in an Er-doped fiber laser at a high repetition rate of larger than 200 MHz. The maximum power of the direct output pulse at an available pump power of 700 mW is 84.8 mW with a pulse duration of 56.5 fs, which exhibits a high transfer efficiency of 12.1%, single-pulse energy of 0.42 nJ, and pulse peak power of 7 kW. Evolution of the spectral characteristics of the direct output pulse is further studied by adjusting the waveplates and tuning the pump power. 44.6-fs ultrafast pulses with a flat full spectral width at half maximum of 148 nm are directly generated.

Abstract:We present a passively mode-locked erbium-doped fiber ring laser with near-zero net cavity dispersion using the nonlinear polarization rotation technique. The compact all-fiber laser is constructed by utilizing an optical integrated component. Through optimizing the cavity dispersion and nonlinearity, high-peak-power near-transform-limited pulses with a spectral width beyond the gain bandwidth limitation can be directly obtained from the laser. Resultant output pulses have a pulse duration of 62 fs, a 3-dB spectral width of 66.3 nm, and a maximum peak power of 7.9 kW. Numerical simulations reproduce the generation of sub-100-fs pulses in the laser. The pulse-shaping mechanism can be attributed to simultaneous dispersion and nonlinearity management in the cavity, which is distinct from that in the stretched-pulse lasers.

Abstract:We report on a 312 fs all-fiber ring laser with a fundamental repetition rate of 409 MHz based on an Er3+/Yb3+ codoped phosphate glass fiber, which is only 5.0 cm in length. Such a high repetition rate femtosecond fiber laser is realized by combining an optical integrated module and a hybrid mode-locking method, where a semiconductor saturable absorber mirror ensures the self-starting mode-locking and a nonlinear polarization evolution technique provides a pulse shortening mechanism. With a transmission-type saturable absorber, the fundamental repetition rate of a hybrid mode-locking all-fiber ring laser is expected to be further scaled up with a much more compact cavity structure.

Abstract:A 165-fs all-fiber ring laser is demonstrated with a fundamental repetition rate of 235 MHz based on a 5.7-cm-long Er3+/Yb3+ codoped phosphate glass fiber and a technique of nonlinear polarization evolution. Abstract:Pulsed fiber lasers with high repetition rates play a crucial role in applications such as high-efficiency processing and bio-optical imaging. However, many ring fiber mode-locked lasers primarily focus on shortening the cavity length to achieve high repetition rate pulse output. Attention is often directed towards the gain fiber and cavity structure, with less consideration given to the challenge of increasing mode-locking threshold power. In this study, we present a high-repetition-rate annular all-fiber laser system with dispersion management. Through strategic adjustment of the intracavity dispersion away from the near-zero dispersion region and careful control of the intracavity gain strength, we have successfully lowered the mode-locking threshold power. This approach can generate pulses with a repetition rate of 439.71 MHz and a mode-locking threshold power of approximately 600 mW. Following pulse compression, the achieved pulse width is 94.8 fs. Its time-bandwidth product is 0.368. To our knowledge, this represents the highest fundamental repetition rate currently attained using a ring all-fiber resonator, accompanied by the lowest mode-locking threshold. Our work introduces a ring fiber laser system characterized by a low mode-locking threshold and a high repetition rate, offering a valuable method for achieving higher fundamental repetition rate pulses.
