Abstract:A silica-pillared layered lanthanum titanate was prepared by first exchanging K 2La 2Ti 3O 10 with n-C 6H 13NH 3Cl, then reacting with octa (3-aminopropylsilasesquioxane), and finally calcinating the obtained product in air to remove the interlayered organics. XRD, IR, TG/DTA, TEM, and specific surface area measurement were used to characterize the resultant, silica-pillared layered lanthanum titanate. It was shown that the silica-pillared layered lanthanum titanate has a high thermal stability above 800 C, an interlayer distance of 1.73 nm (500��C) and a specific surface area of 43. 0 m 2g -1.

Abstract:Layered titanoniobate complex pillared with [Al13O4(OH)24(H2O)12]7+ Keggin ions has been prepared through a stepwise exchange process. By calculating this complex in air, the first alumina-pillared layered titanoniobate was obtained. The resultant pillared complex has a thermal stability over 500-degrees-C and retains an interlayer distance of 1.34 nm after heating at 500-degrees-C in air.

Abstract:Two silica -pillared layered ferrititanates were synthesized by first preswelling K0.8Fe0.8Ti1.2O4 with n -C6H13NH3Cl, then reacting with NH2(CH2)3Si(OC2H5)3 and finally calcinating the resultant product in air to remove the interlayered organics. XRD, IR,DTA/TG, Mossbauer spectroscopy, X - ray fluorimetry, specific surface area and pore size distribution measurements were used to characterize the obtained new materials. The results show that these two silica - pillared layered ferrititanates have high thermal stability beyond 650℃, BET specific surface area of 98. 0 m2/g and 163. 8 m2/g, and average pore size of 1. 82 nm and 1. 90 nm, respectively.

Abstract:Lead titanate nanostructures with different phases and morphologies, layered hexagonal PbTiO2(CO3)(0.3)- (NO3)(0.35)(OH) nanosheets, pyrochlore Pb2Ti2O6 nanodendites, pre-perovskite PbTiO3 nanofibres and perovskite PbTiO3 nanoplates, have been synthesized via a conventional hydrothermal route assisted with different concentrations of tetramethylammonium hydroxide (TMAH). X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and high-resolution TEM (HRTEM) were employed to characterize the phase, morphology and growth behavior of the synthesized samples. The results reveal that at low TMAH concentration the obtained samples are mainly of PbTiO2(CO3)(0.3)(NO3)(0.35)(OH) nanosheets. With the TMAH concentration increasing, the obtained samples change to pyrochlore Pb2Ti2O6 nanodendites, pre-perovskite PbTiO3 nanofibres and perovskite PbTiO3 nanoplates in turn. With the basis of the experimental results, the phase- and morphology-evolution mechanism of the lead titanate nanostructures is discussed by combining the analysis of the lattice structure feature and the properties of TMAH.

Abstract:A zirconia-pillared layered lanthanum niobate was prepared by first preswelling layered HLaNb2O7 with n-hexadecylamine(n-C16H33NH2), then further reacting with zirconyl chloride aqueous solution, and finally calcining the resultant solid product in air. The obtained new material has an interlayer spacing of 1.36nm, and a high thermal stability above 700 degrees C.

Abstract:Lanthanum-transition-metal perovskites with robust meso-scale porous frameworks (meso-LaMO3) are synthesized through the use of ionic liquids. The resultant samples demonstrate a rather high activity for CO oxidation, by taking advantage of unique nanostructure-derived benefits. This synthesis strategy opens up a new opportunity for preparing functional mesoporous complex oxides of various compositions.

Abstract:Lanthanum-modified lead titanate Pb0.70La0.30TiO3 nanocrystals were successfully synthesized by using tetrabutyl titanate ((C8H9O)(4)Ti), lanthanum nitrate (La(NO3)(3)center dot nH(2)O) and lead nitrate (Pb(NO3)(2)) as precursors and KOH as mineralizer via hydrothermal reaction route at 200 degrees C, and the phase formation and morphology of the synthesized PLT powders were investigated XRD, SAED, SEM, and TEM, which are strongly influenced by the introduced manner of the precursors. It was found when lanthanum was introduced through the coprecipitated hydrous oxide of lanthanum and titanium, which strengthened their combination favoring the incorporation of lanthanum into the lead titanate matrix, the obtained powders only comprised the cubic-phase lanthanum modified lead titanate. Using the coprecipitated hydrous oxide of lanthanum and titanium as lanthanum precursor, the PLT powders with uniform spherical shape were obtained after hydrothermal reaction at 220 degrees C for 36h, the size of particles was less than 100 nm.

Abstract:Layered materials are promising candidates to serve for thermal insulation coatings because of their low out‐of‐plane thermal conductivity. The thin film preparation of the layered materials in layer‐by‐layer fashion can be realized by several solution processes. However, the layered materials suffer low thermal stability after the solution processes. Herein, we report a strategy to improve the thermal stability of the layered materials processed in solution. In this work, we studied the thermal stability of the lepidocrocite‐type titanate with various interlayer ions (Li+, Na+, K+, Cs+) at elevated temperatures. We proved that the thermal stability of the titanate increased with the increase of the ionic radius. The Cs+ intercalated titanate can remain its layered structure up to 1000 °C, while the Li+ interacted titanate loses its structural stability at ~280 °C. Our work suggests that increasing the size of the interlayer ions is an effective strategy to enhance the structural stability of layered titanates.

Abstract:A silica-pillared layered titanate was prepared by reacting H2Ti4O9 with pure NH2(CH2)(3)Si(OC2H5)(3) (abbreviated hereafter as APS), washing the precipitate with water, which leads to the hydrolysis and polymerization of the intercalated APS with the formation of APS oligomers, and calculating the product in air 500 degrees C to remove the interlayered organics. The silica-pillared layered titanate thus obtained has an interlayer distance of 14.7 Angstrom and a specific surface area of 45.9m(2)/g.

Abstract:In this article, we report a controllable and reproducible approach to prepare highly ordered 2-D hexagonal mesoporous crystalline TiO2-SiO2 nanocomposites with variable Ti/Si ratios (0 to infinity). XRD, TEM, and N2 sorption techniques have been used to systematically investigate the pore wall structure, and thermal stability functioned with the synthetic conditions. The resultant materials are ultra highly stable (over 900 degrees C), have large uniform pore diameters (approximately 6.8 nm), and have high Brunauer-Emmett-Teller specific surface areas (approximately 290 m2/g). These mesostructured TiO2-SiO2 composites were obtained using titanium isopropoxide (TIPO) and tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) as precursors and triblock copolymer P123 as a template based on the solvent evaporation-induced co-self-assembly process under a large amount of HCl. Our strategy was the synchronous assembly of titanate and silicate oligomers with triblock copolymer P123 by finely tuning the relative humidity of the surrounding atmosphere and evaporation temperature according to the Ti/Si ratio. We added a large amount of acidity to lower condensation and polymerization rates of TIPO and accelerate the rates for TEOS molecules. TEM and XRD measurements clearly show that the titania is made of highly crystalline anatase nanoparticles, which are uniformly embedded in the pore walls to form the "bricked-mortar" frameworks. The amorphous silica acts as a glue linking the TiO2 nanocrystals and improves the thermal stability. As the silica contents increase, the thermal stability of the resulting mesoporous TiO2-SiO2 nanocomposites increases and the size of anatase nanocrystals decreases. Our results show that the unique composite frameworks make the mesostructures overwhelmingly stable; even with high Ti/Si ratios (> or =80/20) the stability of the composites is higher than 900 degrees C. The mesoporous TiO2-SiO2 nanocomposites exhibit excellent photocatalytic activities (which are higher than that for commercial catalyst P25) for the degradation of rhodamine B in aqueous suspension. The excellent photocatalytic activities are ascribed to the bifunctional effect of highly crystallized anatase nanoparticles and high porosity.

Abstract:Highly ordered mesoporous carbon-titania nanocomposites with nanocrystal-glass frameworks have been synthesized via the organic-inorganic-amphiphilic coassembly followed by the in situ crystallization technology. A soluble resol polymer was used as a carbon precursor, prehydrolyzed TiCl4 as an inorganic precursor, and triblock copolymer F127 as a template. The carbon-titania nanocomposites with controllable texture properties and composition can be obtained in a wide range from 20 to 80 wt% TiO2 by adjusting the initial mass ratios. The C-TiO2 nanocomposites with "bricked-mortar" frameworks exhibit highly ordered 2D hexagonal mesostructure and high thermal stability up to 700 degrees C. The nanocomposites have high surface area (465 m(2) g(-1)) and large pore size (similar to 4.1 nm). Additionally, the nanocomposites show good performance in degradation of Rhodamine B due to the photocatalytic activity of the titania nanocrystals and the strong adsorptive capacity of the glasslike carbon.

Abstract:A series of alumina-pillared layered tetratitanates with different interlayer spacings (d(001) = 15.2-17.0 Angstrom) has been first prepared through a step-wise exchange process and by finely changing the exchange reaction conditions such as reaction time and molar ratio of reactants in the reaction mixture, and hydrolysis conditions such as the pH and aging time used to generate the pillaring agent. Apart from the interlayer spacing, the pore diameter and specific surface area of the pillared samples can also be changed by varying the preparation conditions. The resulting alumina-pillared layered tetratitanates were porous, with both micro- and meso-pores (average pore diameter=61.5-95.8 Angstrom). The specific surface area (BET, N-2, 77 K) of the starting material K2Ti4O9 (5 m(2) g(-1)) was increased by pillaring up to 56.6-105.6 m(2) g(-1). The relatively high surface area is mainly due to the microporous structure of the interlayered spaces formed by stable alumina pillars. The structure of the alumina-pillared layered tetratitanates was thermostable above 500 degrees C. The results are compared with those previously reported.

Abstract:Ti (IV) polycation-intercalated layered HLaNb2O7 has been prepared by the intercalation of n-hexylamine into the interlayers of HLaNb2O7 followed by replacing hexylammonium with n-dodecylammonium and further with Ti (IV) polycation species. Titania-pillared layered HLaNb2O7 was obtained by calcining the Ti(IV) polycation-intercalated HLaNb2O7 at 450 degreesC in air. XRD, FTIR, TEM and BET (Brunauer-Emmett-Teller) techniques were used to characterize the resultant. The results showed that the titania-pillared HLaNb2O7 had an interlayer distance of 1.61 nm (450 degreesC), a specific surface area of 132 m(2.)g(-1) and a narrow pore-size distribution centered at 3.3 nm.

Abstract:A layered semiconductor, lanthanum tantalum oxide was prepared by solid reaction at high temperature, and the processes for the modification of the interlayers by protonation, intercalation and pillaring were investigated. n-Butylamine could easily be intercalated into the interlayers of HLaTa2O7 to significantly enhance the interlayer distance, which facilitated the exchange of cation with n-butylamine. Finally, CdO pillars in the interlayer of lanthanum tantalum oxide were formed via calcinating at 500°C in air.

Abstract:A synthesis for easily shaped Ti-containing mesoporous silicates has been reported, which uses as-prepared mesoporous silica SBA-15 as a host template, an inorganic titanium salt (such as TiCl3 or TiOSO4) as a titanium source and water as a solvent. The synthesis involves three steps: obtaining as-prepared mesostructured silicate, grafting functional moieties, and thermal treatment, which is feasible in industry. The as-prepared titanium-containing mesostructured silicates can be easily shaped. XRD, N-2 sorption isotherms, TEM, FT-IR and UV-vis techniques reveal that Ti-containing mesoporous silicates after calcination have the highly ordered 2-D hexagonal mesostructure, high surface areas (475-837 m(2)/g), large pore volumes (0.56-0.92 cm(3)/g), uniform pore sizes (6.4-7.3 nm), and tetrahedrally incorporated titanium species in silica frameworks. The titanium source has a great influence on grafting.
