Comparison of High-order Aberrations in Pseudophakic Eyes with Four Types of Foldable Intraocular Lenses

Abstract:Purpose To compare the high-order aberrations in pseudophakic eyes with four types of foldable intraocular lenses(IOLs).Methods Sixty-six patients(84 eyes)with senile cataract received four types of acrylic IOLs(SA60AT,XLSTABI,AR40e and QUATTRO SE)and were followed up for three months after surgery.The high-order aberrations in the pseudophakic eyes were measured using a Hartmann-Shack aberrometer.The total high-or- der aberrations and each class of aberrations were compared among the four groups.Results For a 5.0 mm aperture diameter,the total high-order aberrations showed significant differences among the four groups(P = 0.022 4),which was ascribed to the difference in primary(P = 0.000 5)and secondary(P = 0.018 0)spherical aberrations.There were significant differences in total high-order aberrations between SA60AT and XLSTABI IOLs(P = 0.006 8).The differences in spherical aberrations between SA60AT and AR40e,SA60AT and XLSTABI were also statistically differ- ent.Conclusion The SA60AT IOLs have much higher aberrations than XLSTABI IOLs,and more spherical aberra- tions than AR40e and XLSTABI IOLs.(Chin J Ophthalmol and Otorhinolaryngo1,2007,7:166-168)
