Abstract:We presented fluorescence spectra and cathode-luminescence spectra of as-prepared porous silicon under different preparation conditions. The luminescence of porous silicon may be related to the luminescent centers on porous silicon surface. The luminescent efficiency depended on the porosity of porous silicon, which further depended on the oxidative level of porous silicon with metal assistance. Under back illumination, the higher the oxidative degree of the metal is, the higher is the porosity and the luminescent efficiency of porous silicon. But under front illumination, the results exhibited an opposite tendency, which can be explained by the formation theory of PS.

Abstract:In this paper, the microstructure of porous silicon was discussed by scanning electron microscopy and Raman spectra. The compositions of the samples were studied by Xray diffraction and electron diffraction. The luminescent properties of porous silicon were explored by the PL measurements. The results showed that the structure of the top porous silicon prepared by epitaxial silicon consists of meso-pores and that of the underlying porous silicon consists of macro-pores. Furthermore, the structure of porous silicon prepared by heavily doped silicon is made of nano-pores. The composition of porous silicon consists of the single-crystal phase, poly-crystal phase and amorphous-crystal phase, respectively. In addition, the luminescence of porous silicon may come from the defects on the silicon-rod surface and in Si complexes including siloxene, Si oxide and Si hydrides, and may not be related to amorphous phase and nano-phase.

Abstract:The photoluminescence (PL) properties and the surface morphologies of the porous silicon (PS) prepared from the wafers whose front sides were coated with or without Al film were studied. Furthermore, the Fourier Transforms Infrared (FTIR) and the Raman spectra were carried out. By introducing the Al film onto the front side of the wafer before the anodic etching, the surface morphology of the PS was quite different from that of conventional PS, which can be explained by the formation mechanism of the PS. The different PL properties of the PS may be attributed to the discrepancy in the structural configuration of the samples.

Abstract:In recent years, the photoluminescence and the photoconductivity of porous silicon were comprehensively studied. But the photoluminescence and the photoconductivity of porous polycrystalline silicon have not been wholely studied. In this paper, the results showed that luminescent property of the samples prepared by poly-crystal silicon wafers may be related to the defects on Si complexes surface, which can be proved by microwave-detected photoconductivity decay measurements. Furthermore, the luminescence of samples was disappeared under the external illumination, which may be related to the elimination of luminescent-centers. In addition, the conductivities of the samples were dependent on etched time and current density, and the large porosity of samples led to isotropic photoconductivity, which may be related to the change of energy band structure of the devices.

Abstract:Porous silicon （PS） was prepared by hydrothermal treatment of silicon in LiF-containing nitric acid solution Scanning tunneling microscope （STM） studies show that the PS layers were uniform, and consisted of columns with cross-sectional diameters significantly less than 10 nm. The luminescence measurement revealed that the wavelength of the photoluminescence （PL） peaks was at 690 nm, which was somewhat shifted toward the higher energy suit as compared with that of the porous silicon obtained by anodic etching. A blue band around 430 nm appeared after rapid thermal oxidation （RTO） of the hydrothermally etched sample in air at 950℃ for 30 s. Abstract:A pulsed anodic etching method is developed to prepare light-emitting porous silicon. Under the same equivalent etching condition, pulsed etching can yield a more uniform porous silicon film with stronger photoluminescence intensity than the film prepared by ordinary dc etching. The atomic force microscopic observation shows that the porous silicon surface prepared by pulsed etching contains more widely separated Si columns but with steeper sidewalls, which are believed to result in the improvement of quantum confinement. The thickness of pulse etched porous silicon film is found to be much larger than that of a dc etched sample.

Abstract:AFM and PL are adopted to study the morphological and photoluminescent characteristics of a series of porous silicon (PS) samples etched with direct current and pulsed current. The results of AFM indicate that there are many "hillocks" at the surface of PS samples and the microstructure of PS samples is quite different with different etching modes. The amount of the small Si particles formed by pulsed etching is more than that by direct current etching under the equivalent etching conditions and the particles appear more protruding and sharper by the pulsed etching. Moreover, PL spectra shows that it is easier to get photoluminescent PS samples with higher intensity by using pulsed etching method. The microstructure of PS samples plays a very important role in the generation of photoluminescence of porous silicon.

Abstract:Porous silicon (PS) has been widely used in solar cells and photodetectors because of its very low reflectance. However, its properties are greatly influenced by its morphological characteristics. In this work, PS samples with different morphologies were prepared by electrochemical etching with different fabrication parameters (etching time, current density, and solution composition). There were cracks microstructures on the surface of PS and their shapes were affected by different fabrication parameters. A crack model was established to analyze the formation mechanism of the surface morphology. The influence of different fabrication parameters on the surface morphology and the infrared spectrum of PS were analyzed. The morphological and optical properties of PS with a composite structure were studied. The results indicated that PS with composite structure can promote the oxidation reaction while significantly reducing the reflectance.

Abstract:In this paper, Cathodoluminescence and Photoluminescence in porous silicon prepared by different etching times were reported. The Cathodoluminescence emission may originate from the presence of hydrogen atoms in oxide phase, which is reduced by electron beam irradiation, but the Photoluminescence emission may be associated with the defects in dioxide in porous silicon surface, which can be proved by scanning electron microscopy images, Fourier transform infrared spectra and Raman spectra. Under electron beam irradiation, the degradation of Cathodoluminescence intensity from as-prepared sample is attributed to hydrogen-atom desorption from porous silicon surface or destruction of irradiative center on porous silicon surface. During electron-beam radiation, the stabilization of Cathodoluminescence emission of the samples, which are post treated by electron beam exposure for 60 s and then aged for 2 min, is due to the protection of surface oxidized layer generated from electron beam heating. Abstract:Porous silicon (PS) fabricated by anodizing have recently become the subject of intense interest due to their room temperature visble light emission properties. However, highly porous silicon made by electrochemical etching is fragile and tends to craze during normal drying in air after taken out from HF based solution. The preparation of highly porous materials by sol-gel processing followed by supercritical drying was carried out by Kistler in 1931. Since 1985, the supercritical drying (SD) has been used successfully to prepare a variety of aerogels, comprising a void fraction of more than 90%. This technigue has now been applied to prepare luminescent porous silicon on both < 100 > and < 110 > C-Si substrates. Porosities up to 94% have been achieved, which were determined by gravimetric measurement. Its morphological feature, microstructure and photoluminescence properties exhibit novel characteristics from those conventionally anodizied propous silicon. It has been demonstrated that anodization and supercritical drying can yield ultra-high porous luminescent PS with minimal damage and much higher degree of perfection than that of previously attained. It is very interested that the PL intensity may be inproved by SD method.

Abstract:Porous silicon (PS) was obtained from n-type (100) mono-crystalline silicon wafers with different metal using two different illumination conditions. The visible photoluminescence (PL) may come from defect-related radiative centers on PS surface and adsorbed hydrogen atoms may be associated to the elimination of irradiative centers on PS surface, which can be proved by the infrared absorption spectra. The metal can be used as catalytic role to increase the etching rate under back illumination, but under front illumination, the metal can cancel light-generated carrier leading to the decrease of etching rate during anodic etching. Furthermore, the change of minority carrier lifetime is opposite to the change of PL efficiency of PS, which can be Confirmed by the results of μ-PCD measurements.

Abstract:The photoluminescence (PL) of as prepared porous silicon (PS) etched in different time were studied. The variation of PS blue emission was similar with that of Si complexes vibration mode on PS surface so blue emission may be related to the defect states of surface Si complexes and hydrogen atoms on PS surface can remove irradiative centers and result in increasing PL intensity. The peak centered at 570nm may be associated to the emission of porous polycrystalline silicon in PS surface, which can be proved by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) and electron diffraction (ED) methods.

Abstract:Photoluminescence (PL) of the porous silicon post treated in different processes has been investigated. It was found that the age of the PS samples in ambient air and in dry air could greatly enhance the intensity of PL band at 570nm and appeared a new blue emission band. Furthermore, the water and ethanol could stabilize the long-wavelength emission and enhance the short-wavelength emission because the molecules of water and alcohol were adsorbed on the surface of PS samples, which change the defects in the silicon oxide on the surface of the samples. The thermal oxidation at low-temperature situation could form a thin and imperfect oxide layer on the surface of PS samples, which also change the defect types on the surface of PS samples and change the emission band. The metal ions could form the ion molecule complexes with species of the surface of PS samples so that the emission characteristics of the samples immersed in chloride salt solution changed.
Scalable Preparation of Porous Silicon Nanoparticles and Their Application for Lithium-Ion Battery Anodes

Abstract:Nanostructured silicon has generated significant excitement for use as the anode material for lithium-ion batteries; however, more effort is needed to produce nanostructured silicon in a scalable fashion and with good performance. Here, we present a direct preparation of porous silicon nanoparticles as a new kind of nanostructured silicon using a novel two-step approach combining controlled boron doping and facile electroless etching. The porous silicon nanoparticles have been successfully used as high performance lithium-ion battery anodes, with capacities around 1,400 mA·h/g achieved at a current rate of 1 A/g, and 1,000 mA·h/g achieved at 2 A/g, and stable operation when combined with reduced graphene oxide and tested over up to 200 cycles. We attribute the overall good performance to the combination of porous silicon that can accommodate large volume change during cycling and provide large surface area accessible to electrolyte, and reduced graphene oxide that can serve as an elastic and electrically conductive matrix for the porous silicon nanoparticles.

Abstract:Porous silicon powder has been prepared for the first time by a hydrothermal technique. Strong red-emission around 680 nm was observed in the samples. Transmission electron microscopy studies reveal that the as-prepared powder was composed of plate-like particles, which were found to be porous structures of ≈2–3 nm primary units. These results reveal that the particles of porous silicon powder have a microstructure and luminescent properties similar to those of anodic-etched silicon films.

Abstract:Porous silicon has many potential applications in lithium-ion battery anodes and medical sensors, owing to its high specific capacity and photoluminescence properties. In this work, porous silicon is prepared with vacuum sublimation dealloying method by heating Mg 2 Si precursor to 750 °C and holding it for 1 h under vacuum. The relationship between pressure and temperature, as well as the characteristics of the longitudinal section of condensation products show that the sublimation process of Mg in Mg 2 Si precursor can be divided into three stages. The aperture distribution curves of the Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) and Mercury Intrusion Porosimetry (MIP) of porous silicon show that the pore size of mesopores is between 3.1 ± 0.2 and 6.3 ± 0.2 nm, and that of macropores is between 351.6 ± 1 and 2101.7 ± 1 nm. The prepared porous silicon has pores with frost flower shaped and shrub-shaped structures in the interior and polygonal contoured pores on the surface. This paper aims to investigate the reaction mechanism of vacuum sublimation dealloying method and provide a foundation for optimizing the performance of porous silicon in applications such as lithium-ion battery anodes and hydrogen generating materials by studying its unique pore structure.

Abstract:Porous silicon nanomaterials hold great promise in the fields of drug therapy, sensors and energy storage and conversion due to their high specific surfaces areas and tunable physicochemical properties. Especially in the area of high energy lithium ion batteries, porous silicon has attracted many concerns owning to the abundant pore channels, which will effectively releasing the huge stress that induced by the volume change and shorten the lithium ion transport distance. Abstract:Porous silicon nitride ceramics is a promising functional ceramic material. In recent years, the research on the preparation of porous silicon nitride ceramics within different methods has been widely investigated. First, this work reviews the main synthesis methods of Si 3 N 4 porous ceramics in detail, and compares the differences between strength and porosity caused by each method. The characteristics and advantages of different technologies under the current conditions were evaluated. Second, the dielectric properties, sound absorption properties and permeability properties of silicon nitride ceramics were compared and summarized based on the experimental results. Third, the applications fields of porous silicon nitride ceramics, such as smelting industry, catalyst carrier, sound absorption, wave-transparent, and biomedical fields were explored. Finally, the assessment of different silicon nitride ceramics preparation technologies was elaborated. This review gives an outlook on the porous silicon nitride ceramics, which shows great potential for further research in this field.

Abstract:Silica aerogels were prepared by the sol-gel method,then use the magnesiothermic reduction reaction to produce nanoporous silicon.And nanoporous silicon/NaClO4 composite were prepared.The component and structure of nanoporous silicon were characterized by X-ray diffraction,scanning electron microscopy(SEM),transmission electron microscopy(TEM),energy dispersive X-ray(EDX),the Brunauer-Emmett-Teller(BET) method surface area analysis.The thermal performance and ignition properties of nanoporous silicon/NaClO4 composites were studied by thermal gravimeteic analysis and high-speed camera.Results show that different crystalline nanoporous silicon can be prepared by modifying the temperature at lower temperature(≤650℃),which has sponge-like mesoporous structure with three-dimensional irregular network,uniform pore size of about 10nm,larger specific surface area up to 820.7 m2/g.In an inert atmosphere nanoporous,nanoporous silicon/NaClO4 composite decomposes at about 510℃,and can be ignited with heat stimulation energy by baking on the surface of hot plate under no restrict condition,and formed typically a mushroom cloud flame.
