Abstract:A series of Fe-P-B ultrafine amorphous alloy particles has been prepared by the chemical reduction method. The composition and size of the particles have been effectively adjusted. Mössbauer spectroscopy in addition to some other techniques has been used to investigate the reaction process, the factors that influence the preparation, the crystallization of the particles, and the interactions between the components within them. The results indicate that the co-deposition of iron, phosphorus and boron atoms in the solution at room temperature forms Fe-P-B amorphous alloy particles, and a preferential bonding of Fe-P bond to Fe-B one exists in the particles.

Abstract:Amorphous Ni-P ultrafine particles with no Ni(OH)2 as impurity have been prepared by chemical reduction method, i.e. by the reaction of the aqueous solutions of nickel chloride and sodium hypophosphite. Among factors such as the initial pH value of the reaction system, additives and the reaction time, it has been shown that the initial pH value is the most important in determining the yield and the properties of the products. The products have been characterized by XRD, XPS, SEM, TEM, and DSC, and the results revealed that, with an initial pH value of 11, amorphous Ni-P ultrafine particles with the average diameter of ca. 150 nm and relatively even chemical and topological distribution can be obtained.

Abstract:The mechanochemical reaction has been applied to synthesizing nano-sized amorphous Cu40Zr60 alloy particles. The structure of Cu–Zr particles has been investigated by means of X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy and differential thermal analysis. The tests show that the amorphous Cu–Zr particles are around 40 nm in size. The crystallization temperature of the nano-sized amorphous Cu40Zr60 particles is lower than that of the corresponding micron-scale particles. The formation mechanism of the nano-sized amorphous Cu40Zr60 alloy particles is also discussed.

Abstract:Ni-P amorphous alloy was prepared by chemical reduction method with Sodium Hypophosphite.The effects of preparation conditions such as concentration of Ni2+,pH value and temperature on the reduction were studied.The physical properties were characterized by XRD,SEM and EDS and VSM.The results show that when the initial pH value reaches 12,and added with reducing agents when temperature reaches 70℃,then continue to be heated at 90℃ gradually,with the control the concentration of Ni2+,the amorphous alloy powder could be made with high sphericity and dispersion.Then,the magnetism of the amorphous alloy powders show superparamagnetic.

Abstract:The ultrafine Co-B amorphous alloy particles has been prepared by chemical reduction.The fresh and the thermal treatment samples had been studied by means of inductively coupled plasma(ICP),transmission electron microscopy (TEM),X-ray diffraction(XRD),X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS) and surface area measurements.The catalytic activity on hydrogenation of carbon monoxide has been studied by a miniature catalytic reactor.The result indicated that the samples of being thermal treated not only changed significantly in structure state but also in catalytic activity.It also indicated that the ultrafine amorphous Co-B alloy particles have higher catalytic activities and unique selectivities than that of their crystal states.

Abstract:This note reports a successful preparation of a new catalyst particles through the reaction between Ni2+ and H2PO2- in aqueous solution at room temperature. X-ray diffraction pattern indicates that the particles are in amorphous and alloying state. Transmission electron micrograph shows that the particles are spherial and the size distribution is very narrow. The average diameter of the particles is determined to be about 100nm which is a "ultrafine" scale.

Abstract:Amorphous ribbons Fe73.5-xCoxSi13.5B9Cu1Nb3(x=10,30,50) were prepared by the standard single copper wheel melt spinning technique in the air atmosphere.The isothermal annealing was carried out at 550 and 600℃ for 1h in a vacuum furnace to induce the formation of nanocrystallite in amorphous ribbons.The X-ray diffraction(XRD) analyses showed that the average sizes D of α-Fe(Co,Si) grains for the samples annealed at 550℃ were 19.3,20.1,22.8 nm and those for the samples annealed at 600℃ were 24.8,25.2,26.5nm,respectively.The primary crystallization activation energies of amorphous ribbons were calculated using Kissinger,Ozawa and Augis-Bennett models based on differential thermal analysis data.The local Avrami exponenet n for primary crystallization was calculated using Johnson-Mehl-Avrami(JMA) equation.The significant variation of local Avrami exponent n with crystallized volume fraction α demonstrated that the primary crystallization kinetics of amorphous ribbons varied at different stages.In the initial stage(0α0.2),the crystallization mechanism was bulk crystallization with three dimensional nucleation and grain growth controlled by diffusion at decreasing nucleation rate.In the following stage(0.2α1.0),it was surface crystallization with one dimensional nucleation and grain growth at a near-zero nucleation rate.

Abstract:In this paper, ZnO ultrafine particles (UFPs) were prepared by the thermal decomposition method of the precursor, zinc carbonate hydroxide. The structure and properties of the as-prepared ZnO UFPs were studied using TEM, XRD, BET, SPS, ESR, Raman, XPS and UV–Vis absorption spectroscopy. It was found that the prepared ZnO UFPs exhibited obvious quantum size effect and surface effect. In addition, there were many active species on the surface of ZnO UFPs such as oxygen deficiencies and hydroxyls, both of which can improve the photocatalytic activities of ZnO UFPs.

Abstract:Ultrafine-grained aluminum alloys offer interesting multifunctional properties with a combination of high strength, low electrical resistivity, and low density. However, due to thermally induced grain coarsening, they typically suffer from an intrinsic poor thermal stability. To overcome this drawback, an Al-2%Fe alloy has been selected because of the low solubility of Fe in Al and their highly positive enthalpy of mixing leading to the formation of stable intermetallic particles. The two-phase alloy has been processed by severe plastic deformation to achieve simultaneously submicrometer Al grains and a uniform distribution of nanoscaled intermetallic particles. The influence of the level of deformation on the microstructure has been investigated thanks to transmission electron microscopy and atom probe tomography and it is shown that for the highest strain a partial dissolution of the metastable Al6Fe particle occurred leading to the formation of a Fe super saturated solid solution. The thermal stability, and especially the precipitation of particles from the ultrafine-grained solid solution and the way they pin grain boundaries has been investigated both from static annealing and in-situ transmission electron microscopy experiments. The correlation between microstructural features and microhardness has been established to identify the various strengthening contributions. Finally, it is shown that ultrafine grained high purity Al with less than 0.01 at. % Fe in solid solution could preserve a grain size only 300 nm after 1 h at 250 °C.

Abstract:The preparation and characterization of silver powders with spheric shape and different sizes by chemical reduction of silver ions in the presence of ethanol amine using hydrochinone (C6H6O2) as the reducing agent are described. The size distribution, microstructure, and the phase composition of the obtained Ag Powders were characterized by the Laser Particle Size Analyzer, Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM) and the X-ray diffraction (XRD). The Ag powder was in face-centered cubic crystal structure with spheric morphology. The average tap density of silver powders is up to 4.0g/cm3. It was also found that the size of the Ag particles can be adjusted conveniently to a certain degree by varying the silver ions content, the addition amount of dispersing agent, the aging time, the temperature of the reaction, and the concentration ratio of hydrochinone to Ag+.

Abstract:Fe-B ultrafine amorphous alloy particles have been prepared by the addition of FeSO 4 solutions into KBH 4 solutions. The reaction was found to automatically maintain constant pH levels in a basic medium and produced Fe-B samples with higher boron content as compared to the reaction for the addition of KBH 4 solutions into FeSO 4 solutions. The latter reaction automatically maintained constant pH levels in an acidic medium. The mechanism of the overall reaction between FeSO 4 and KBH 4 in aqueous solution is composed of three simple independent reactions which are shown to be valid for both addition routes for the reaction. The concentration and addition rate of FeSO 4 solutions were also found to significantly influence the boron content and properties of the produced Fe-B samples.

Abstract:Ni–P–B ultrafine amorphous alloy particles have been prepared by chemical reaction of nickel chloride, sodium hypophosphite, and potassium borohydride in aqueous solution. Two samples prepared at different initial pH values (pH=5 and 9) have been characterized by different experimental methods. X-ray and electron diffraction indicated that both samples were amorphous in nature, and transmission electron microscopy gave average diameters of 50 and 30 nm for particles prepared at pH=5 and 9, respectively. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy revealed that nickel and phosphorus existed exclusively in their elemental states, while boron existed mainly in its elemental state but with some trace of its oxide on the surface. The crystallization process of the amorphous samples was investigated by differential scanning calorimetry and by x-ray diffraction after annealing the samples at various temperatures. The results are correlated with the microstructure of the as-prepared samples. It is found that when the initial pH of the reaction mixture is adjusted to 9, the pH value can be maintained automatically throughout the reaction and the sample thus formed has a fairly homogeneous microstructure.

Abstract:Ultrafine particles (UFP) were prepared by means of the colloidal chemical method. The structure and properties of the as-prepared TiO2 UFP, having been submitted to different heat-treatment tests, were studied using TEM, XRD, IR, SPS, Raman, XPS and UV–vis absorption spectrum. The results of the XPS, SPS and UV–vis absorption spectrum indicated that on the surface of TiO2 UFP, there were surface active species such as Ti3+ and hydroxyl which can improve the photocatalytic activity of TiO2 UFP.

Abstract:In order to study the preparation of low-melting alloy powder in phase change materials, three sets of control experiments were set up in this paper. To explore the effects of ultrasonic oscillation, ultrasonic atomization technology and rapid cooling had an effect on the particle size, surface morphology and powder shape of ultrasonic powder making. In the experiment, ultrasonic atomization, rapidly cooling ultrasonic atomization, and ultrasonic vibration generated powder were tested. The results showed that the surface of fog droplets generated by ultrasonic atomization was smooth, with distinct particles. The powder diameter was large, ranging from 20-60 μm. The surface of the powder obtained by ultrasonic shock existed an aggregation phenomenon. The powder diameter was small ranging from 5-10 μm. The ultrasonic atomized powder obtained by rapid cooling was mostly spherical with a smooth surface. After the screening, spherical powder with a diameter of 15-25 μm and the smooth surface could be obtained. The results showed that the particle diameter is small and uniform, while the uneven surface was difficult to eliminate. The experimental conditions of rapid cooling were favorable for the smoothness of the particle surface and the roundness of powder shape. Spherical powder with a diameter of 15-25 μm can be obtained by screening the rapidly cooled powder after ultrasonic atomization. Different experimental conditions and technological approach can produce high-performance low melting point alloy powder.
