Abstract:Ferroelectric thin films have received much attention due to their potential applications in nonvolatile ferroelectric random access memories (NVRAMs)[1,2]. Among them, the bismuth-based layered perovskite ferroelectric material has become the most promising material in NVRAMs applications as to its fatigue-fee properties and lower coercive fields compared to the PZT family [3]. In this paper, rare earth Y-doped bismuth titanate (BYT) nanocrystalline powders were obtained by a sol-gel method. FT-IR and XRD were used to determine the lowest heat treatment temperature and phase changes in the formation of BYT crystalline powders. The effect of Y 3+ cation substitution for Bi 3+ cation on the microstructure of BYT was developed with XRD, either. The grain size of BYT nanopowders is about 40 nm determined by TEM.
