The Euler–Lagrange equation will lead us to a fourth-order linear PDE. For time discretization, we have used convexity splitting and the resulting semi-discrete scheme is solved in Fourier domain. Stability analysis for the semi-discrete scheme is carried out. Abstract:We present here a new image inpainting algorithm based on the Sobolev gradient method in conjunction with the Navier-Stokes model. The original model of Bertalmio et al is reformulated as a variational principle based on the minimization of a well chosen functional by a steepest descent method. This provides an alternative of the direct solving of a high-order partial differential equation and, consequently, allows to avoid complicated numerical schemes (min-mod limiters or anisotropic diffusion). We theoretically analyze our algorithm in an infinite dimensional setting using an evolution equation and obtain global existence and uniqueness results as well as the existence of an $\omega$-limit. Using a finite difference implementation, we demonstrate using various examples that the Sobolev gradient flow, due to its smoothing and preconditioning properties, is an effective tool for use in the image inpainting problem.

Abstract:In this paper, we extend an existing universal variational framework for image inpainting with new numerical algorithms. Given certain regularization operator Φ and denoting u the latent image, the basic model is to minimize the l(p), (p=0,1) norm of Φu preserving the pixel values outside the inpainting region. Utilizing the operator splitting technique, the original problem can be approximated by a new problem with extra variable. With the alternating minimization method, the new problem can be decomposed as two subproblems with exact solutions. There are many choices for Φ in our approach such as gradient operator, wavelet transform, framelet transform, or other tight frames. Moreover, with slight modification, we can decouple our framework into two relatively independent parts: 1) denoising and 2) linear combination. Therefore, we can take any denoising method, including BM3D filter in the denoising step. The numerical experiments on various image inpainting tasks, such as scratch and text removal, randomly missing pixel filling, and block completion, clearly demonstrate the super performance of the proposed methods. Furthermore, the theoretical convergence of the proposed algorithms is proved.

Abstract:Recently introduced inpainting algorithms using a combination of applied harmonic analysis and compressed sensing have turned out to be very successful. One key ingredient is a carefully chosen representation system which provides (optimally) sparse approximations of the original image. Due to the common assumption that images are typically governed by anisotropic features, directional representation systems have often been utilized. One prominent example of this class are shearlets, which have the additional benefitallowing faithful implementations. Numerical results show that shearlets significantly outperform wavelets in inpainting tasks. One of those software packages, <a class="link-external link-http" href="http://www.shearlab.org" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a>, even offers the flexibility of usingdifferent parameter for each scale, which is not yet covered by shearlet theory. In this paper, we first introduce universal shearlet systems which are associated with an arbitrary scaling sequence, thereby modeling the previously mentioned flexibility. In addition, this novel construction allows for a smooth transition between wavelets and shearlets and therefore enables us to analyze them in a uniform fashion. For a large class of such scaling sequences, we first prove that the associated universal shearlet systems form band-limited Parseval frames for $L^2(\mathbb{R}^2)$ consisting of Schwartz functions. Secondly, we analyze the performance for inpainting of this class of universal shearlet systems within a distributional model situation using an $\ell^1$-analysis minimization algorithm for reconstruction. Our main result in this part states that, provided the scaling sequence is comparable to the size of the (scale-dependent) gap, nearly-perfect inpainting is achieved at sufficiently fine scales.

The leading part of the operator satisfies general growth conditions settling the problem in the framework of fully anisotropic and inhomogeneous Musielak-Orlicz spaces generated by an -function \linebreak . Neither nor conditions are imposed on . Our results cover among others problems with anisotropic polynomial, Orlicz, variable exponent, and double phase growth.

Abstract:This paper is concerned with a class of stochastic Hamilton–Jacobi–Bellman equations with controlled leading coefficients, which are fully nonlinear backward stochastic partial differential equations (BSPDEs for short). In order to formulate the weak solution for such kind of BSPDEs, a class of regular random parabolic potentials are introduced in the backward stochastic framework. The existence and uniqueness of weak solution is proved, and for the partially non-Markovian case, we obtain the associated gradient estimate. As a byproduct, the existence and uniqueness of solution for a class of degenerate reflected BSPDEs is discussed as well.

Abstract:Inpainting is an image processing method to automatically restore the lost information according to the existing image information. Inpainting has great application on restoration of the lost information for photographs, text removal of image, and recovery for the loss coding of image, etc. Image restoration based on partial differential equation (PDE) is an important repair technology. To overcome the shortcomings of the existing PDEs in repair process, such as false edge, incomplete interpolation information, a new PDE for image restoration based on image characteristics is proposed. The new PDE applies different diffusion mode for image pixels with the different characteristics, which can effectively protect the edges, angular points, and other important characteristics of the image during the repair process. The experimental results in both gray images and color images show that our method can obviously improve the image visual effect after inpainting compared with different traditional diffusion models.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove the non-uniqueness of stationary solutions to steady incompressible Euler equations with source terms. Based on the convex integration scheme developed by De Lellis and Székelyhidi, the Euler system is reformulated as a differential inclusion. The key point is to construct the corresponding plane-wave solutions via high frequency perturbations. Then we use iteration and Baire category argument to conclude that there exist a large amount of weak solutions with given energy profile.
