Abstract:Abstract This paper is concerned with the stationary Navier–Stokes equation in two-dimensional exterior domains with external forces and inhomogeneous boundary conditions, and shows the existence of weak solutions. This solution enjoys a new energy inequality, provided the total flux is bounded by an absolute constant. It is also shown that, under the symmetry condition, the weak solutions tend to 0 at infinity. This paper also provides two criteria for the uniqueness of weak solutions under the assumption on the existence of one small solution which vanishes at infinity. In these criteria the aforementioned energy inequality plays a crucial role.

Abstract:We study the uniqueness of weak solution in Lloc∞([0,+∞);L2(R1)) for initial value problem of Chern–Simons–Dirac equations. We first derive the equations for the difference between two weak solutions and establish the existence of the solution to initial value problem to its adjoint system. Then we apply Holmgren's method to prove that the weak solution in Lloc∞([0,+∞);L2(R1)) to initial value problem of Chern–Simons–Dirac equations is unique.

Abstract:We consider the initial-boundary value problems on $\mathbb{R}^{+}\times \mathbb{R}^{+}$ for one-dimension systems of quasilinear wave equations with null conditions. We show that for homogeneous Dirichlet boundary values and sufficiently small initial data, classical solutions always globally exist. The key innovation in the proof is a new framework of bootstrap argument via coupled high-low order energy estimates.

Abstract:In this article, we prove a variety of uniqueness results for ultrahyperbolic equations with general space and time dependent lower order terms. We address the problem of determining uniqueness of solutions from boundary data as well as when the data is prescribed on an interior subset. Furthermore, we also present the case when the domain may change with respect to any one time component and obtain analogous results. Our main tool for this purpose is Carleman estimate. We obtain different uniqueness results depending on the location of the reference point for the Carleman estimate relative to the domain.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove the uniqueness of weak solutions to the two dimensional full Ericksen-Leslie system with the Leslie stress and general Ericksen stress under the physical constrains on the Leslie coefficients. This question remains unknown even in the case when the Leslie stress is vanishing. The main technique used in the proof is Littlewood-Paley analysis performed in a very delicate way. Different from the earlier result in [28], we introduce a new metric and explore the algebraic structure of the molecular field.

Abstract:Global in time well-posedness of $H^2$ solutions and $z$-weak solutions of the 3D Primitive equations in a bounded cylindrical domain is proved. More specifically, uniform in time boundedness and bounded absorbing sets are obtained for both $H^2$ solutions and $z$-weak solutions, as well as uniqueness of the $z$-weak solution for the 3D Primitive equations. The result for $H^2$ solutions improves a recent one proved in[6]. The result for $z$-weak solution positively resolves the problem of global existence and uniqueness of $z$-weak solutions of the 3D primitive equations, which has been open since the work of [14].

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the problem of solution uniqueness for the second order elliptic boundary value problem, by looking at its finite element or finite difference approximations. We derive several equivalent conditions, which are simpler and easier than the boundedness of the entries of the inverse matrix given in Yamamoto et al., [T. Yamamoto, S. Oishi, Q. Fang, Discretization principles for linear two-point boundary value problems, II, Numer. Funct. Anal. Optim. 29 (2008) 213-224]. The numerical experiments are provided to support the analysis made. Strictly speaking, the uniqueness of solution is equivalent to the existence of nonzero eigenvalues in the corresponding eigenvalue problem, and this condition should be checked by solving the corresponding eigenvalue problems. An application of the equivalent conditions is that we may discover the uniqueness simultaneously, while seeking the approximate solutions of elliptic boundary equations. (C) 2009 Elsevier B.V.
