Abstract:To solve the problem that we always need external crystal to provide clock for the chip in the USB full speed equipment,an implemented method of low power consumption phased locked loop(PLL) applying to the USB full speed equipment is proposed.According to the data transmission rate in the USB full speed equipment,based on the standard phase locked loop structure,a clock information extraction unit and a low power control module are added,an improved phase frequency detector(PFD) and differential voltage controlled oscillator(VCO) is implemented to the proposed phase locked loop.And the phase locked loop layout is completed with 0.35 μm technology.Furthermore,the performance of proposed phase locked loop is verified,and the results meet the requirement of the USB protocol.

Abstract:A novel structure of a charge pump for high-speed Phase-Locked Loop (PLL) is presented. The design is based on 0.25um CMOS mixed-signal process of TSMC. Positive feedback and supply-independent biasing are used to solve charge injection effect and to obtain faster switching speed. Simulation results show that the charge pump meets the need of 480 MHz PLL circuit entirely.

Abstract:In this paper, the principle and nonlinear dynamic model of the digital phase-locked loop (PLL) based on vector transformation are demonstrated under the condition of distorted three-phase. Then the design method of three-phase digital PLL based on Lyapunov function is proposed, and the designed PLL possesses high stability and excellent phase tracking capability. Furthermore, the loop filter and voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) with auto-reset function are discretized separately, solving the problem of finite word length of processors during digitization. PLL errors are computed and analyzed under distortion conditions such as phase imbalance, harmonics, offset. Instead of the traditional loop filter, a proportional-integral (PI) controller is used to improve the distortion elimination capability and the response tracking rate of three-phase digital PLLs. The three-phase digital PLL is realized based on a digital signal processor (DSP) platform and is applied to the power factor control of 6kW inverters. Simulations and experiments validate the theoretical analysis.

Abstract:A new design method of a all digital phase-locked loop (DPLL)is presented. The new DPLL controller is realized by a proportional-integral method rather than by conventional loop filters. A mathematic model for the DPLL is built with the method of linear approximation, and the local dynamic characteristics are developed. It is indicated by the theoretic analysis that the new design has wide lock-in range and has same stability behavior in the neigbourhood of the locked frequency. Besides, the frequency tracking time of the DPLL is directly proportional to the period of the locked signal. Utilizing the phase error indicated by the pulse width of phase detector outputs and employing the integral control improve the capture speed. The results obtained from simulation experiments confirm the conclusions of the theoretic analysis. Since the DPLL can be realized by digital circuits and can be regulated through the proportional and integral parameters, it is easy to be designed and be used in the fields of speed governing system of motor, active power filter and static var compensator.

Abstract:We have designed and implemented a highly digital optical phase-locked loop (OPLL) for diode lasers in atom interferometry. The three parts of controlling circuit in this OPLL, including phase and frequency detector (PFD), loop filter and proportional integral derivative (PID) controller, are implemented in a single field programmable gate array chip. A structure type compatible with the model MAX9382/MCH12140 is chosen for PFD and pipeline and parallelism technology have been adapted in PID controller. Especially, high speed clock and twisted ring counter have been integrated in the most crucial part, the loop filter. This OPLL has the narrow beat note line width below 1 Hz, residual mean-square phase error of 0.14 rad(2) and transition time of 100 mu s under 10 MHz frequency step. A main innovation of this design is the completely digitalization of the whole controlling circuit in OPLL for diode lasers. (C) 2012 American Institute of Physics. Abstract:A highly digital optical phase-locked loop (OPLL) is designed and implemented to generate phase-coherent lasers in quantum optics. All the controlling circuit in this OPLL are implemented in a single field programmable gate array (FPGA) chip. Pipeline and parallelism technology have been adapted in PID controller. Abstract:Settling time and spur of phase-locked loop (PLL) are important issues in wireless communication systems and worth to be studied. In order to reduce settling time and mitigate spurs in all-digital PLL, some algorithms are presented. The proposed fast-locking algorithm adopts optimized AFC (automatic frequency control) technique with dynamic bandwidth method that doesn't need to calibrate circuits compared to conventional OTW (oscillator turning word) estimating method. A Multi-bits LSB Dithering module is proposed to further suppress fractional spur caused by SDM (sigma-delta modulator) periodic output. A DEM module is applied to weaken the nonlinearity resulted from varactor mismatch and therefore improve the spur performance. Simulation results show that the improvement of settling time is about 27%~72% compared to the ADPLL without fast-locking algorithms. The spur free algorithms are also verified.

Abstract:An all-digital enhanced phase-lock loop (EPLL) technology based on ADC and FPGA is designed, On the basis of principle of trajectory tracking EPLL realizes the synchronization with AC fundamental harmonic component, the phase-lock speed of EPLL is rapid and its accuracy is satisfactory. To meet the design requirement of phase-lock speed and stability simultaneously, a new method to adjust dynamic parameters of EPLL is put forward, thus an all-digital phase-lock logical circuit with optimized structure is obtained. The results of phase-lock tracking test verify the performance of EPLL, and the effectiveness of EPLL in harmonics extraction and analysis is confirmed.

Abstract:AbstractThe phase‐locked loop (PLL) is used widely in communication engineering as one of the key functions. Recently, some attempts have been made to construct a digital circuit for the phase‐locked loop. However, the common problems in those attempts is that there is a trade‐off between the locking range and the output phase jitter. To solve this problem, this paper proposes a new structure for the phase‐locked loop with a wide locking range by combining the frequency control technique. For this purpose, a new digital VCO is constructed, which can vary the central frequency of the system using the programmable divider and the adder. Theoretical analyses are made for the transient behavior from the viewpoints of the locking range, frequency and phase, and the noise characteristics of the loop. The result is compared with the results of experiment and simulation. The theoretical value, experimental value and the result of simulation agreed well, indicating that the phase‐locked loop has a wide locking range.

Abstract:The structure of digital optical phase-locked loop includes two parts: circuit part and optical part. Since the operating mechanisms of two parts differ greatly, the simulation process is very complex. The signal transmission process of digital optical phase-locked loop is analyzed first. It is found that optical part can be simplified into a periodic dynamic adjustable beat signal model based on the hardware description language, and the problem of optical part modeling is solved. Meanwhile, to emulate the drift phenomenon of wavelength caused by optical devices under real conditions, a dynamic and variable jitter signal model is developed, which can reduce the debugging time. Finally, both the beat signal model and jitter signal model work correctly in digital simulation environment, and the accuracy of the beat signal and the jitter signal can reach fs level.

Abstract:AbstractThe PLL has assumed an important role and is widely employed in communication systems. In recent years efforts have been directed toward implementation of PLLs by means of digital circuitry and a large number of digital PLLs (DPLLs) have been reported. the binary quantized DPLL has received particular attention. However, in a first‐order PLL, pull‐in performance and operation in the lock mode have conflicting requirements and, in addition, a steadyphase difference is produced when the input signal has a frequency offset, resulting in unfavorable effects on the communication system. In the past, these problems have been resolved by employing a second‐order loop but, due to the resultant complexity of the loop, this causes several problems, including poor transient response and integrator drift. In this paper we present a new DPLL incorporating a nonlinear multilevel quantized phase comparator (with characteristic τ sgn ψ ‐ ψ). By means of its phase comparator characteristic this loop improves the steady‐state phase error and also affords more rapid transient response as well as other features including excellent jitter suppression within the pull‐in range. Performance characteristics of the proposed loop are determined theoretically and are verified by experiment.

Abstract:A new type of digital phase locked loop ( DPLL ) to capture and trace phase using the value of over sampling in intermediate frequency and over sampling based on traditional DPLL was presented. The method achieves locked frequency by two stages detect frequency device and digital locked phase by high frequency over sampling. The phase error was adjusted one time only with the new method, while it needs several times continuously with the traditional method. Finally, the effects on waveform distortion and random twitter were described, and their performances can be improved by relatively threshold. The method solves some difficult problems of lock precision and time not being given dual attention and bad anti-jamming of traditional DPLL.

Abstract:A phase-locked loop (PLL) of a phase-shifting power supply for the power system is designed in this paper. Taking the industrial frequency current as the reference signal, the input and output characteristics of the phase-frequency detector with charge pump are analyzed. In addition, the transfer function of the PLL system is analyzed by combining the passive second-order low-pass filter and the voltage-controlled oscillator. As a result, the influence of parameters such as charge pump current, phase margin, and loop bandwidth on the performance of the PLL is investigated, and the optimal parameters of each section are obtained. The results show that the optimized PLL has a locking time of 0.75 s, a pull-out range of 63.16 Hz, and a locking range of 43.82 Hz, with high stability and noise immunity.

Abstract:The digital phase-locked loop (DPLL) enables robust clock generation with advanced CMOS technology but suffers from nonlinearity and resolution problems of the time-to-digital converter (TDC). In the DPLL based two-point modulator, the nonlinearity of the digitally-controlled oscillator (DCO) is also critical. DPLL architectures that utilize a 1-bit conversion or a 1-bit ΔΣ modulation method are recently proposed to relax the nonlinearity problem. This paper discusses TDC design issues and gives an overview of some useful techniques in the design of the DPLL which performs clock/frequency generation and modulation with the 1-bit TDC or the 1-bit DCO modulation.

Abstract:Time-to-Digital Converter (TDC) is a key block used as the phase/frequency detector in an All-Digital Phase-Locked Loop (ADPLL). Usually, it occupies a large proportion of ADPLL’s total power consumption up to about 30% to 40%. In this paper, the detailed power consumption of different components in the TDC is analyzed. A Power Management Block (PMB) is presented for the TDC to reduce its power consumption. A 24-bits TDC core with the proposed PMB is implemented in HJTC 0.18 μm CMOS technology. Simulation results show that up to 84% power reduction is achieved using our proposed technique.

Abstract:Aiming at fast accurate synchronization of three-phase grid voltage, this paper analyzed the phase-locked loop based on the multiple-stage paralleled complex coefficients filter with cross decoupling. In view of its complicated structure and heavy calculation burden, this paper proposed an improved complex coefficient phase-locked loop based on a fast repetitive internal model. It analyzed problems caused by digital implementation, and suggested an implementation method based on fast repetitive internal model of a fractural order. The proposed scheme could accurately extract the positive sequence component of the fundamental wave of the grid voltage. Finally, the effectiveness of the method was verified through simulation.

Abstract:This paper discusses different design aspects of the ΔΣ fractional-N bang-bang PLL (BBPLL) compared with conventional analog or digital fractional-N PLLs performing linear phase detection. Several in-band noise reduction methods without relying on a high-performance digital-to-time converter (DTC) are considered at the architecture-level. It is shown that two-stage topology, single-bit ΔΣ modulation, and phase-domain filtering methods can improve the in-band phase noise, which is different from the conventional PLLs. It is also shown that two-point modulation is superior to one-point modulation regardless of data rate when an overdamped BBPLL is employed for frequency modulation. By integrating those in-band noise reduction methods, we propose a DTC-free, calibration-free ΔΣ BBPLL architecture that achieves the inband noise of about -100dBc/Hz. Behavioral simulation results show that the in-band noise performance can be improved by nearly 40dB without having the DTC.

Abstract:The structure and characteristics of an All-digital Phase Locked Loop(ADPLL)designed with FPGA are presented,and we get the exterior synchronization clock of SDH Device with the ADPLL.The ADPLL has steady output clock as traditional Digital PLL(DPLL)when source changed;at the same time,it has steady-state error as traditional Analog PLL(APLL)when locked;because we adopted a means of Control Divider initially to design feedback clock of Phase Locked Loops,and a close filter arithmetic was used.Test results of output clock show that the exterior synchronization clock of SDH Device with the ADPLL design is fit for SDH device system.
