Abstract:Composite ceramic coatings containing Ca and P were prepared on AZ31B magnesium alloy by micro-arc oxidation and subsequent hydrothermal treatment. The phase structure, morphology and elemental composition of as-prepared composite ceramic coatings were analyzed by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive spectrometry. The corrosion resistance of the composite ceramic coatings in simulated body fluid was evaluated by Tafel technique. Results showed that the micro-arc oxidation ceramic coatings on Mg alloy were porous and mainly consisted of crystal MgO. After hydrothermal treatment, the thickness of the ceramic coatings remained almost unchanged while the surface roughness increased, accompanied by the formation of sediments containing P and Ca. In one word, hydrothermal treatment helped to improve the corrosion resistance of the micro-arc oxidation ceramic coating, and the coating after hydrothermal treatment at 100 ℃ exhibited the best corrosion resistance.
