Abstract:A simple and efficient model is proposed to detect and diagnose the internal short-circuit fault of a transformer.The winding's structure is preciously modeled for FEM.It is easy to be used for a transformer with internal turn-turn fault.Energy perturbation method is employed to calculate the equivalent circuit parameters of the transformer.With these parameters,state equations can be established to study the relationship among the terminal currents,flux and the fault locations.Through test of a transformer,it reveals that the method is reasonable and effective.

Abstract:In traditional internal fault models of power transformers based on winding analysis,the leak flux and the eddy effect of iron-leg are ignored and the non-linearity of iron-leg is less considered.In order to adequately describe the transient process of power transformer internal fault and find out internal fault causes,a simulation model is established with the magnetic circuit method,which is based on the structural model of three-phase five-leg transformer and considers eddy effect,leak flux and non-linearity.The magnetic flux linkage equations and voltage equation are established according to the magnetic circuits and the magnetic conductance equation is listed according to the relations among magnetic flux,current and magnetic circuit.The method to determine the parameters of simulation model is given,which is closely related to transformer structure.The model is applied in the simulation of fault with long recovering time and the simulative result is same as that of virtual value calculation.The transient trend of simulation is basically in accord with that of experiment,which proves the validity of proposed model.

Abstract:In order to improve the ability of transformer differential protection in the internal fault identification, this paper proposes a algorithm based on the magnetic transient model for the internal fault simulation of three-phase and three-leg transformer, the internal fault parameters of model are relative to the transformer structure. The established process of Internal fault model for three phase and three-leg transformer is given particularly. The simulating calculation considers a new fitting method for the hysteresis loop of transformer based on SVM (support vector machine) is set forth, which is original optimization of the hysteresis loop test data regression translates into the allelomorph optimization. According to the fractal characteristic of local hysteresis loop ,a research for internal fault simulation of three-phase and three-leg transformer is put up .The application of the proposed algorithm to a test system shows its validity and correctness.

Abstract:The high-speed Maglev train is driven by long-stator linear synchronous motors (LLSM). During the long-time outdoor operation, the insulation material of the armature winding may be damaged, either due to aging or the movement of the windings. This may result in the three-phase short-circuit fault, which affects the traction performance and the operation of the train. In this paper, a simulation model of the high-speed Maglev train traction system with a three-phase short-circuit fault LLSM is established, including the converters at two ends, feeder cables, segmented LLSM and traction control system. The system adopts a double-end power supply mode. The model divides the fault segment LLSM into two parts. One part is connected to the converter, which is equivalent to a normal operating segment with shortened long-stator. The other part is equivalent to a three-phase short-circuit linear generator. Based on this model, the influence of running speed and fault segment length on the traction performance of the train is simulated. In addition, the stator current, acceleration and traction force of the Maglev train during fault segment are investigated in the acceleration phase, deceleration phase and constant speed phase, respectively. The results can provide a reference for three-phase short-circuit fault diagnosis.

Abstract:With the development of voltage level and capacity in recent years, the impact of external short circuit has a growing threat to the stability of transformer windings than ever before. Because of the weakness of anti-short-circuit capacity, around 40% of the transformer faults are caused by the huge impact of short circuit every year. In view of this, it is of great significance to study the mechanical behavior of transformer winding structures during external short-circuit faults. This paper represents investigations of short-circuit current, the transient leakage magnetic field, electromagnetic forces and the von Mises stress of a real full-scale 500kV single-phase two windings transformer during the external short-circuit transient process. The worst case of short-circuit fault with three-phase short-circuit happening simultaneously has been simulated. A circuit model has been built up to get the short-circuit current. The 3D geometric model has been established based on real size parameters of the DFP334000/500kV single-phase two windings oil-immersed power transformer. The 3D finite-element method (FEM) has been employed to calculate the leakage magnetic fields excited by the short-circuit current. Henceforth, the electromagnetic forces acting on windings have been obtained and analyzed according to the short-circuit current and magnetic fields calculation results, and both axial and radial dynamical responses are considered and analyzed. The mechanical characteristics of the winding disks and the insulation structures have been calculated in this paper. The von Mises stress is the crucial factor to determine whether or not the transformer windings can withstand the impact of external short-circuit current, and its distribution has been simulated and analyzed.

Abstract:The key of transformer protection is to distinguish magnetic inrush from fault current.Effective simulations for magnetic inrush and fault current of transformer are the foundation of right division.In this paper,based on the study on the model of electrical transformer in EMTDC(Electro-Magnetic Transient in DC System),the simulations for magnetic inrush and fault current of three-phase transformer are done.And analysis are given to the simulation.The results show that EMTDC can effectively simulate the magnetic inrush and fault current of transformers under different conditions.

Abstract:The transformer winding deformation and the insulation damage will occur under the impact of huge electromagnetic forces caused by the short circuit faults. In this paper, the electromagnetic-mechanical (E-M) field coupling 3D FE model was used for analyzing the transient characteristics of power transformer under short circuit faults. Considering the process of the transformer winding suffering short circuit current is a complicated multi-field coupling problem, this paper explores the inter-relationship between the short circuit fault topology, electromagnetic field and the mechanical field. Both the mathematical model of each field involved and the E-M field coupling model have been built. By the use of 3D FEM, the transient characteristics such as the electromagnetic forces, stress distribution and displacement of the transformer model have been calculated and simulated. Additionally, by analyzing the results from the simulation example, the radial and axial forces characteristics and the structure design suggestion for the winding have been obtained and proposed.

Abstract:Based on the characteristics of three-phase three-limb transformer magnetic circuit,the relationship among its inductances is analyzed,and a new mathematical model and an equivalent circuit model are proposed.The proposed model can reflect the structure characteristics of three-phase three-limb transformer magnetic circuit.Compared with existing three-phase three-limb transformer models,the new model can clearly demonstrate the roles of each current component in inducing winding voltage.The equivalent circuit model is more simple and intuitive than existing models and is easy for qualitative analysis and calculations.The proposed model is verified through comparison with the traditional nonlinear three-limb transformer model.As an example for application,the simplified calculation model for three-phase three-limb transformer with external faults is discussed.

Abstract:Internal overvoltage of transformer caused by VFTO can threaten the security of the transformer. When the pulse wave invades the transformer with short-circuit fault to ground, the extremely uneven voltage distribution in the internal windings will not only endanger the safety of windings but also affect the stability of power system. The internal distribution parameters of the transformer winding model is necessary for the analysis of the short-circuit fault to ground based on MTL theory. By establishing a distributed parameter model of the transformer winding model with 16 turns, this paper analyzes the influence of the variation of distribution parameters in case of short-circuit to ground fault, then the modified short-circuit model to ground is applied to a transformer winding model with 180 turns. The results show that the modified model can well simulate the change of short-circuit fault to ground. The voltage waveform distribution between turns is extremely uneven.

Abstract:The coupling between coils in power transformer causes the complexity of external characteristics of internal short circuit faults. In order to design and adjust the relay protection correctly, it is necessary to model and simulate the internal short circuits in details for different type of power transformers. An equivalent circuit model and an algorithm for modeling internal short circuits in power transformer windings are proposed. The several kinds of faults including short circuit to ground, inter-turn short circuits and inter-phase short circuits are simulated for a double-winding power transformer and the external characteristics with the fault position variety are given.

Abstract:It is of great significance for the stability of power system to research the electromagnetic and mechanical dynamic characteristics of transformer in short-circuit fault by numerical simulation. A 110kV/25000kVA power transformer model is established by the finite element method. In which Ogden model is adopted to conduct simulation analysis on winding spacer for considering its nonlinear mechanical characteristics. Some simulation results are obtained on the basis of modeling. Firstly, the magnitude and distribution of the axial and radial electromagnetic force of windings in short-circuit fault are calculated. Secondly, the dynamic change rule of displacement and stress of high voltage and low voltage windings in short- circuit fault is obtained. Thirdly, the distribution of maximum displacement and maximum stress on each coil disk are calculated. In addition, the difference of mechanical characteristics between HV winding and LV winding is analyzed. The above results can provide reference for transformer design.

Abstract:A new transient simulation model of three-phase multi-legged transformer based on its equivalent circuit is proposed.The model is composed of basic circuit elements;no interface is needed and is convenient to use;it has a simple structure and less inductance for magnetic flux circuit representation.The leakage inductance is independent of excitation inductance in the proposed model,and ill-conditioned matrix is not involved in the computation,making the simulation more stable.Based on the magnetic equivalent circuit of three-phase three-limb and three-phase five-limb transformer,the method for determining parameters of new model is discussed.The proposed model is verified through comparison between the transient performance of UMEC model and the proposed model.

Abstract:Large capacity electrical machines are expensive and complicated. Faults in such machines result in large losses. The multi-loop method was used to develop a mathematical model for salient-pole synehronous machines. The transient and steady-state behavior of the machine with internal faults was simulated using the model, with the results consistent with experimental results. The simulation program was used to study the characteristics of the transient process and the variation of the currents and voltages in a machine with internal faults.

Abstract:Because of the high prices and difficulties to conduct short-current tests of large power transformers, it is meaningful to analyze the dynamic electromagnetic force analysis of the transformer windings through finite element software. Research in this paper presents a model of the 50000MVA/110KV three phase transformer established by COMSOL. Different conditions of short-circuit current are applied to the model, testing the dynamic electromagnetic forces of the transformer windings. Results of the paper may be useful for investigating the winding deformation state prediction.

Abstract:Being aware of the great hazard of transformer winding deformation and insulation damage under the impact of huge electromagnetic forces caused by short circuit faults, this paper presented an analysis method based on explicit dynamic 3-D finite element method, enabling detailed and representative investigations of the mechanical effects of external short circuit faults in power transformers. Considering the displacements and deformations of windings could change the leakage flux distribution and further influence the remaining computation, an electromagnetic-mechanical field coupling model was proposed. To accurately calculate the windings transient deformation, both the disks and spacers were considered as the elastic-plastic body. Meanwhile, the high-voltage and low-voltage windings were modeled into 21 disks and 18 spacers are evenly arranged between the adjacent copper disks. For illustrating the effectiveness of the proposed method, a real full-scale 120 MVA/220 kV oil-immersed transformer model was built to suffer the serious three-phase short circuit fault as the case study. A comparison of the von-Mises stress distribution in healthy, pre-strain and dislocation windings under the same short circuit fault confirmed that the healthy winding can withstand the impact of short circuit fault without any unrecoverable deformation; insufficient mechanical strength, pre-strain and local dislocation are the key factors to winding deformation, rupture even collapse. Additionally, the theoretical model and simulation method can be used as a substitute for costly and cumbersome field tests in faults characteristics analysis of transformer windings.

Abstract:For the purpose of precious internal fault analysis and relay protection of the power transformer, some problems in the existing models are pointed out. The key problem is that the difference of the leakage magnetic field distribution between normal operation and fault condition has not been taken into account. Therefore, the original short circuit reactance or leakage inductance of the transformer can't be used to develop the model parameters of the faulty transformer. This paper presents a new method to determine the leakage inductance of a power transformer. Based on the principle of linear superposition of the leakage magnetic field, the leakage inductance of the faulty transformer is firstly calculated on the basis of the geometric dimensions of the windings by subdividing windings into several sections according to the fault location. Then, the obtained inductance matrix will be modified according to the concept that the sum of the ampere-turns of all harmonics in the transformer windings is equal to zero. The application of the proposed method has shown that the method has the flexibility and sufficient precision in the internal fault analysis.

Abstract:Transformer inter-turn short-circuit (ITSC) fault has long been an issue of concern. This paper presents a direct field-circuit coupling method to investigate power transformer ITSC faults, in which the nonlinear arc-in-oil conductance was simultaneously calculated. Using the numerical approach, ITSC faults of a three-phase three-winding power transformer were simulated and analyzed. Results show that, a large circulating current flows through the shorted turns, with the surrounding flux distribution significantly distorted. Moreover, ITSC faults with more shorted turns will result in lower short-circuit current and larger arc voltage, and more arcing fault energy will be released.
