This species reacted smoothly with electrophilic substrates such as acylhalides, α-bromocarbonyl compounds, diaryliodonium salts, α, β-unsaturated carbonyl compounds to afford the corresponding organic selenides in high yields.

Abstract:Diaryl diselenides and diaryl ditellurides are commonly employed as selenyl or telluryl sources, and they have a wide range of applications in organic synthesis. Herein, various diaryl diselenides/ditellurides are furnished in moderate to excellent yields under metal-free conditions. This method features high efficiency, good functional group tolerance, straightforward operation, and easy scale-up (running in 4 mmol-scale for most cases). Mechanistic studies indicate that this reaction may proceed via a radical pathway. Significantly, the correct matching of Br – and dimethyl sulfoxide under an air atmosphere is critical to this transformation. Abstract:A new protocol has been developed for the formation of C−Se and C−S bonds by the direct selenosulfonylation of alkenes. This protocol is operationally simplistic, has a wide substrate scope, uses readily available seleno and sulfonyl sources, and is amenable to gram-scale synthesis. This reaction represents a significant addition to the limited number of reactions available for the intermolecular selenide difunctionalization of alkenes and would be useful for the synthesis of sulfur- and selenium-containing molecules

Abstract:We investigated the reductive cross‐coupling reaction of sulfur‐containing and selenium‐containing compounds (thio(seleno)sulfonates and disulfides(selenides)) with xanthate esters under nickel‐catalysed conditions. This reaction extends the xanthate esters, which generally generate alkyl radicals by C—O bond breaking under photo‐catalysis, to the nickel‐catalysed reductive cross‐coupling reaction, providing a mild and effective method for the synthesis of a series of unsymmetric sulfides and selenides. Comprehensive Summary Unsymmetric sulfides and selenides have great applications in the pharmaceutical field. Herein, we describe the reductive coupling reaction of xanthate esters with sulfur‐containing and selenium‐containing compounds (thio(seleno)sulfonates and disulfides(selenides)) under the nickel‐catalyzed condition. It provides a mild and effective method for the synthesis of unsymmetric sulfides and selenides which has the advantages of mild reaction conditions, high yields and a wide range of substrates.

Abstract:The chemical reduction within a family of organic selenocyanates, as masked selenols, using reducing agents, such as Rongalite, sodium dithionite, and sodium thiosulfate is investigated. Using Rongalite, the corresponding diselenides were obtained quantitatively and selectively in very good to excellent yields (51‐100%) starting from alkyl, aryl, and benzyl selenocyanates. The scope of the reaction is unaffected by the electronic nature of the substituents. Furthermore, the reducing agent, Rongalite, is compatible with hydrolysable and reducing‐sensitive functional groups. Additionally, a simple methodology employing the in‐situ generated benzyl selenolate anion (PhCH2Se ̅) to promote aliphatic nucleophilic substitution, epoxide ring opening, and Michael addition reactions has been developed; thus extending the structural diversity of the synthesized selenium derivatives.

Abstract:The installation of selenium groups has become an essential step across a number of industries such as agrochemicals, drug discovery, and materials. However, direct C(sp3)-H selenation, which is most atom economical, remains a formidable challenge, and only a few examples have been reported to date. In this article, we introduce the transition metal-free C(sp3)-H selenation with the easily available β-ketosulfones and diselenides as the material source. This benign protocol permits access to a broad spectrum of α-aryl(alkyl) seleno-β-ketosulfones in high yields with out-standing functional group compatibility. Distinct advantages of this protocol over all previous methods encompass the utilization of base and air as an oxidant, at room temperature, as well as enhanced green chemistry matrices.
