Abstract:A new protocol has been developed for the formation of C−Se and C−S bonds by the direct selenosulfonylation of alkenes. This protocol is operationally simplistic, has a wide substrate scope, uses readily available seleno and sulfonyl sources, and is amenable to gram-scale synthesis. This reaction represents a significant addition to the limited number of reactions available for the intermolecular selenide difunctionalization of alkenes and would be useful for the synthesis of sulfur- and selenium-containing molecules

Abstract:A convenient and effective method of palladium‐catalyzed C–H selenylation of the 2‐aryl acetamides assisted with removable 8‐aminoquinoline with readily available diselenides and selenyl chlorides has been developed. This selenylation reaction is scalable and tolerates a wide range of functional groups, providing a straightforward way of the preparing unsymmetrical diaryl selenides and dibenzoselenepinone. Preliminary mechanistic studies indicated that a single‐electron transfer type mechanism and facile C–H metalation are operative.

Abstract:(Z)-1-Chloro-1-seleno-1-enes have been synthesized regio- and stereoselectively by the reaction of lithium chloride in HOAc with acetylenic selenides. In the presence of 5% mmol of PdCl2(PhCN)(2) and 10% mmol of CuI, (Z)-1-chloro-1-seleno-1-enes coupled with terminal acetylene rapidly to give selenoenynes in high yields.

Abstract:A mild photoredox catalyzed construction of sulfides, disulfides, selenides, sulfoxides and sulfones from unstrained ketone precursors is introduced. Combination of this deacylative process with SN2 or coupling reactions provides novel and convenient modular strategies toward unsymmetrical or symmetric disulfides. Reactivity studies favor a bromine radical that initiates a HAT (Hydrogen Atom Transfer) from the aminal intermediate resulting in expulsion of a C-centered radical that is intercepted to make C–S and C–Se bonds. Gram scale reactions, broad substrate scope and tolerance towards various functional groups render this method appealing for future applications in the synthesis of organosulfur and selenium complexes.

Abstract:The installation of selenium groups has become an essential step across a number of industries such as agrochemicals, drug discovery, and materials. However, direct C(sp3)-H selenation, which is most atom economical, remains a formidable challenge, and only a few examples have been reported to date. In this article, we introduce the transition metal-free C(sp3)-H selenation with the easily available β-ketosulfones and diselenides as the material source. This benign protocol permits access to a broad spectrum of α-aryl(alkyl) seleno-β-ketosulfones in high yields with out-standing functional group compatibility. Distinct advantages of this protocol over all previous methods encompass the utilization of base and air as an oxidant, at room temperature, as well as enhanced green chemistry matrices.

Abstract:Phenyl or m-tolyl selenoamides reacted with functionalized alpha-haloacetic acid in 1 : 1 or I : 2 molar ratio with no catalyst in various alcohols to undergo a selenium transfer reaction. This reaction in different molar ratios furnished the same C-Se-Se-C coupling products with a special structure bis(alkoxycarbonylmethyl) diselenide. A new and facile method for synthesis of such bis(alkoxycarbonylmethyl) diselenides with the advantages of mild reaction conditions, high yields, easy availability of starting materials and good chemical selectivity was provided. In order to investigate the mechanism for this reaction, methyl a-bromoacetate or ethyl a-bromoacetate as starting material was added to the solution of phenyl selenoamide in ethanol in I : I or 2 : I molar ratio under the neutral condition at room temperature. The results indicated that the same product bis(methoxycarbonylmethyl) or bis(ethoxycarbonylmethyl) diselenide was formed. Byproduct ethyl benzoate was also separated. A mechanism for this C-Se-Se-C coupling reaction was proposed.

Abstract:An efficient copper-catalyzed regio- and chemoselective multicomponent reaction of 1,6-enynes, diselenides, DABCO center dot(SO2)(2) and cycloketone oxime esters is described. Under mild conditions, this protocol exhibits a broad substrate scope and high functional group compatibility, enabling rapid access to cyanoalkylsulfonylated pyrrolidines in moderate to good yields. This radical-triggered cyclization reaction allows the formation of four new bonds including the C-SO2, C-C and C-Se bonds in a single step. A plausible mechanism is proposed on the basis of control experiments, and a cyanoalkylsulfonyl radical species is involved during the reaction process.

Abstract:A green protocol for construction of C−Se bonds from ketene dithioacetals and diselenides through direct electrochemical oxidative cross-coupling has been developed. This reaction was carried out in an undivided cell system with NaBF4 as the electrolyte and CH3CN as the solvent through galvanostatic electrolysis. A series of substituted ketene dithioacetals and diselenides were tolerant and the desired tetrasubstituted alkenyl selenides were obtained in moderate to excellent yields. In addition, construction of C−S bond from ketene dithioacetals and disulfides through electrochemical method in the presence of KI was also successfully realized. It exhibited high efficiency and broad functional group tolerance.

Abstract:The reaction of hydrazide with carbonyl chloride in the presence of sodium carbonates leads to the corresponding 1,2-diacylhydrazines vertical bar 1a-t, (RC)-C-1(O)NHNHC(O)R-2, R-1 = aryl, R-2 = or alkyl vertical bar in moderate to excellent yield (57-90%). The latter reacts with 2,4-diphenyl-1,3-diselenadiphosphetane-2,4-diselenide (Woolins' reagent, WR) in refluxing toluene to give a series of new 2,5-disubstituted 1,3,4-selenadiazoles (2a-t, 51-99% yield).
