Abstract:The objective of this study is to develop a particle collector by using a micro gas cyclone with a body diameter of 10 mm. Design and performance of a cyclone separator is determined by collection efficiency and pressure drop. The behavior of a rectangular inlet-type cyclone for relatively high solid loading rates is reported in this study. For different solid loading flow rates varying from 11.7 to 16.7 liter per min, pressure drop and collection coefficient were evaluated through simulation and experimental work. The experimental part of this study was conducted using Snifter MA+ device. Since the Snifter MA+ is designed to handle flows which are approximated by laminar conditions and the flow regime within the cyclone is mostly turbulent, in order to achieve a suitable performance, the flow in the cyclone should be controlled to be close to laminar conditions. Given these circumstances, the highest cyclone efficiency was recorded for the lowest flow rate and in turbulent condition. The obtained efficiency shows that the cyclone has a reliable performance. As flow rate decreases, pressure drop reduces as well. In order to investigate the pressure drop behavior, velocity and flow trajectories for different flow rates, SOLIDWORKS software, which is applied for drawing and also for simulation was utilized to simulate the model. The simulation results show that by increasing the flow rate, pressure drop also increases.

Abstract:The aim of this study was evaluating a micro gas cyclone performance with a body diameter of 10 mm to collect indoor fine particles. The design of a cyclone requires minimizing the pressure drop and maximizing the separation efficiency. Overall and grade efficiencies, pressure drops, and cut sizes have been investigated through a theoretical model, simulation, and experimental studies. The experimental part was conducted using an Electrical Low-Pressure Impactor (ELPI) device to measure particle concentration for flow rates of 10-13.3 (l/min). In order to study the pressure drop and velocity behavior for different flow rates, COMSOL software was utilized. The obtained results from experimental work have met the theoretical and simulation outcomes adequately. It has been confirmed by all the obtained results that by increasing the flow rate and subsequently inlet velocity, the particle collection efficiency and pressure drop increase while the cut size decreases. Abstract:ABSTRACT The present paper investigated the separation performance of tri-cone water medium cyclone and conducted simulation studies on flow field inside cyclone by ANSYS FLUENT, by comparison with that of single-cone cyclone. The separation mechanism was revealed by analysis of internal pressure distribution, speed distribution, turbulence intensity, and density distribution both in tri-cone and single-cone cyclones. Compared with single-cone cyclone, the density distribution of tri-cone cyclone was clearer: Along the center of the cyclone, the density of particles increased outwardly as the radius increased. Along the axial direction of the cyclone, the density of particles gradually increased from top to bottom for the three cones. By experimental study, the separation performance of tri-cone cyclone was better than that of single-cone cyclone, which was caused by much greater turbulence intensity in tri-cone cyclone in the central gas-phase region of the cone. The air drawn in from the underflow port carried the low-density particles in the inner liquid phase from the overflow port upon upward flow, which can improve the separation efficiency.

Abstract:The utility model relates to a high-efficiency long-life cyclone dust collector for solving the problems of dust back-mixing and easy abrasion of a cyclone barrel, which are caused by the structural design defects of the existing cyclone dust collector. The high-efficiency long-life cyclone dust collector comprises a cyclone barrel and a dust collection chamber, wherein the dust collection chamber is positioned on the lower part of the cyclone barrel; and the top of the cyclone barrel is provided with an air inlet pipe along the tangent direction of the cyclone barrel. The high-efficiency long-life cyclone dust collector is characterized in that the cyclone barrel is in a round platform shape with a small upper part and a large lower part; and a cone angle alpha of the round platform shape is more than 60 degrees or less than 90 degrees. According to the utility model, the cyclone barrel is designed into the round platform shape with the small upper part and the large lower part so that dust particles are subjected to centrifugal force and also subjected to downward acting force from the cyclone barrel to acceleratedly downwards move, the dust collection efficiency is increased, and the direct friction on the wall of the cyclone barrel is reduced, therefore the abrasion of equipment is reduced; the dust collection chamber is internally provided with helical blades, so that the dust particles back mixed with air currents can be effectively decreased; and the air inlet pipe is changed from being traditionally horizontally arranged to be slantly arranged by forming a blunt angle with the top surface of the cyclone barrel, so that the downwards moving speed of the dust particles can be accelerated.

Abstract:The subject experiment was conducted to investigate both the inner flow field and the performance of a square diffusion laboratory-scale cyclone. The flow field of inner cyclone was tested by PDA in varied sections and experimental conditions. The experimental results showed that the new type of cyclone has a highest collection efficiency of 91 % at an inlet velocity about 10m/s and the pressure drop across the cyclone about 150Pa correspondingly. This work has found that it is possible that the square segment is an approach to enhance the fine particles agglomerate in the cyclone with lower inlet velocity. Further research is needed to reveal the mechanism.

Abstract:The invention discloses a cyclone dust collector with a double ash discharge structure, and belongs to the technical field of environment friendly separation of dust. The cyclone dust collector comprises an air inlet pipe, an exhaust pipe, a cylindrical cyclone and a conical ash collector, wherein the air inlet pipe and the exhaust pipe are arranged on one side and at the top end of the cyclone respectively; and the conical ash collector is arranged at the lower end of the cylindrical cyclone. According to the invention, a small cone and a small cylinder are additionally arranged at the bottom of the ash collector, and the diameter of the upper end of the small cone is designed to be smaller than that of the small cylinder, so that an annular gap is formed between the small cone and the small cylinder. Through the method, the cyclone dust collector can ensure that most of dust is discharged from the annular gap firstly, and small dust is discharged from the small cone, so that the double ash discharge structure is formed, the quantity of dust entering vortexing and turbulence from the bottom of the cone is reduced, dust taken away by secondary fly ash is reduced, the dust removal efficiency of the cyclone dust collector is improved, and a better environmental protection effect is achieved.

Abstract:Abstract The axial cyclone separator has simple structure, operates to reducing dust concentration in grain storehouses, and features low production cost, and convenient installation. Aiming to obtain the separation characteristics of an axial flow guide separator, the particle wall collision and the performance of multi-tubes were simulated with Fluent. The renormalization group (RNG) k − ε model was used to study the turbulent modeling and the user define function (UDF) was used to calculate the particle-wall collision. The simulation and experimental results were compared to verify the computation model. The results showed that the basic feature of the flow pattern remains stable and the separation efficiency of 800 kg/m 3 particles is higher than 2650 kg/m 3 particles when the inlet velocity increases from 2 to 5 m/s. When the inlet velocity was 5 m/s, the normal velocity restitution ratio had a significant effect on the efficiency, the separation efficiency of 167 μm particles changed from 76.74 to 97.93% and a smaller normal velocity restitution ratio had a higher the efficiency. In comparison, the efficiency remained unchanged when changing the tangential velocity restitution ratio. Furthermore, the effects of three target wall materials on the separation efficiency were investigated. And the simulated efficiency the of 296 μm particle of 2024 aluminum, 410 stainless steel and Ga1–4V titanium were 82.15, 79.52 and 77.53% respectively. Besides, effects of tube diameter on performances of cyclone separator were discussed and high intense collisions between particles and walls may occur in a small diameter of cyclone tube, causing deteriorated separation performance. Moreover, with the addition of the dust chamber, the efficiency of cyclone used in combination is slightly improved since the vortex in the exhaust pipe has been finely changed.

Abstract:PURPOSE: An axial flow type cyclone dust collector is provided to realize a small static pressure loss and improve the efficiency of dust collection by optimizing mutual geometric relationships among respective components. CONSTITUTION: An axial flow type cyclone dust collector comprises a main body (10) and multiple guide wings (20). The main body has a rotating cylindrical part (11) in which a dust-containing gas is rotated and moved; a dust-containing gas inflow pipe (12) and a dust-removed gas exhaust pipe (13), which are respectively disposed at front and rear ends of the rotating cylindrical part along the axis; and a dust-collecting port (14) which is provided at a region of the rear end of the rotating cylindrical part to guide the exhaust of the centrifuged dust. The inner diameter of the rotating cylindrical part is within the range of 1.5 to 1.6 times the inner diameter of the dust-containing gas inflow pipe. The guide wings are disposed between the dust-containing inflow pipe and the rotating cylindrical part in the main body to provide a rotational centrifugal force to the dust-containing gas flowing into the dust-containing gas inflow pipe. The guide wings are radially arranged while each of the guide wings has a wing angle varying from an inflow angle of 0° to 5° at the front thereof to an exhaustion angle of 75° to 80° at the rear thereof with respect to the axial of the rotating cylindrical part.

Abstract:Ore resources in the mining process form a large number of unmanageable tailings, mostly inhalable fine mineral particles, into the environment will cause serious pollution, and recycling is a precious resource. The cyclone classification provides the possibility for the recovery and exploitation of fine particles, but the recovery and utilization rate of conventional cyclone separation is seriously low, and the performance urgently should be optimized. In the present study, a new type of volute feed was proposed to strengthen the classification and recovery process of fine mineral particles. Combined with numerical simulation and experimental research, the effects of various structural parameters and operating parameters on the flow field distribution, particle motion, and classification performance were systematically examined. The obtained results reveal that the new volute feed structure can effectively reduce the internal turbulence and improve the flow field stability and particle classification efficiency. Compared with the traditional hydrocyclone, the classification efficiency of fine particles with new feed structure increases by 10-18%. Increasing underflow diameter and feed pressure and reducing overflow diameter and feed concentration are also beneficial to lessening classification particle size and enhancing classification performance. The currently achieved outcomes can provide valuable guidelines for further development of novel hydrocyclones.

Abstract:A novel structure floatation cyclone of natural inlet air has been designed, and its structural characteristics and floatation principle have been analyzed. The velocity and pressure distributions within the flow field of the floatation cyclone have been studied by Navier-Stokes equations. Based on the flow characteristics of the mixture of fine coal and water, reasonable boundary conditions are decided and the equations are modified, so that the final equations can describe the real flow state of the flow field of the floatation cyclone. The boundary surface position between float coal and tailings is determined and there is an air cylinder in the central region of the floatation cyclone. The research reveals the floatation mechanism of the floatation cyclone. The floatation results can be greatly improved by regulating the structural dimensions of cyclone. The experimental results show that the floatation cyclone is very effective for the floatation of fine coal grains.

Abstract:A coarse-grained computational fluid dynamics-discrete element method (CFD-DEM) was established to investigate the influence of cyclone combustor structure on the motion behaviors of solid fuel particles. Four structural parameters, i.e., primary inlet number (Pn), secondary inlet number (Sn), secondary inlet location (SL), and guide blade angle (alpha), were examined. Compared to the base structure with a single primary inlet, the addition of extra primary inlet, secondary inlet, or diversion structure elevates the global parcel location. Increasing Pn and Sn decreases the average parcel residence time, while augmenting SL and alpha generally lengthens it. Meanwhile, increasing Pn, Sn, and SL or decreasing alpha broadly reduces the wall parcel-hold ratio. Furthermore, the inclusion of secondary inlet and diversion structure increases the probability of small parcels occurring in the near-wall zone. These observations are helpful for optimizing the design and operation of cyclone combustors.

Abstract:This study proposed a multi-objective optimization of novel vortex finder, called Slotted Vortex Finder (SVF), applied in the Stairmand cyclone separator, to obtain a most appropriate geometric configuration for performance improvement as the Stairmand cyclone separator had been widely used in industry for dust removal since last century. The Optimal Latin Hypercube Sampling (OLHS) method was utilized to conduct design of experiment for four significant design variables, including slot number (Ls), slot length (N), span angle (α) and inclination angle (β). Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and Response Surface Model (RSM) were adopted to get precise output response and construct accurate fitness functions between design variables and objectives. Multi-objective Genetic algorithm was employed to find out the best solution with maximum collection efficiency and minimum Euler number based on the well-constructed fitness functions. The finally selected optimal model provided Euler number reduction of 34.51%, collection efficiency increasing of 4.32% and cut off size reduction of 5.53%, compared with original model. The obtained optimal geometry shape of novel vortex finder could be used as an effective reference for industrial factories to gain enough considerable cyclone performance improvement and high economic benefits by making only small modifications on the in-using cyclone separator.

Abstract:The invention discloses a three-stage cyclone separation dust collector, which comprises an outer dust bucket, wherein the outer dust bucket is provided with an outer tangential air inlet; an inner dust bucket is arranged in the outer dust bucket; a screen barrel which corresponds to the outer tangential air inlet is arranged above the inner dust bucket; the inner dust bucket, the screen barrel and the outer dust bucket are enclosed into a first-stage cyclone cavity; a rotary barrel and a group of rotary conical barrels are sleeved in the screen barrel; an air inducing barrel is further arranged in a circle enclosed by the rotary conical barrels; the air inducting barrel is inserted into the rotary barrel; the upper end of the rotary barrel is provided with a second-stage tangential air inlet; the upper end of the rotary conical barrel is provided with a third-stage tangential air inlet; an air outlet cover covers the rotary conical barrel; the back face of the air outlet cover is provided with air outlet barrels which correspond to the rotary conical barrels; the air outlet barrels extend into the rotary conical barrels; a screen cover plate further covers the air outlet cover; the screen cover plate is filled with filter cotton. According to the three-stage cyclone separation dust collector, three-stage cyclone separation is adopted, so that dust is separated more completely, and separation and coarse dust and fine dust is realized; the first stage of a cyclone system adopts the screen barrel while the second stage adopts a single cone structure, so that the structure is simple, the cost is low, and a good effect is achieved.

Abstract:This study investigates the influence of various configurations of dipleg and dustbin structures on cyclone separator performance. For comparative analysis, the inverted cone dipleg which reported has the highest collection efficiency was employed, and six models were developed with varying dipleg-to-dustbin ratios while maintaining a constant total height. Unsteady simulations were conducted using the RSM model and the Eulerian-Lagrangian approach to analyze the flow dynamics and particle migration behaviors in cyclone separators. The increase in dipleg length significantly influenced flow behavior in both the dipleg and dustbin regions, initially resulting in increased flow complexity before transitioning to smoother and more regular patterns. Analysis of vortex frequency indicated a weakening back-mixing effect with increased dipleg length, further underscoring the impact of this parameter on cyclone performance. Quality factors under different particle size ranges are proposed to compare the separation efficiency and pressure drop of different models, providing a reference for the selection of cyclone in different application scenarios.
