Abstract:(00l)-Oriented LiNbO3 ultra-thin film was fabricated on Pt/Ti/SiO2/Si substrate using pulsed laser deposition. The film shrunk into crystalline state nanoparticles that still kept (00l) preferential orientation as being annealed in the oxygen atmosphere at 500 oC for 2 hours. These LiNbO3 nanoparticles exhibited the ferroelectricity, showing asymmetrical hysteresis loop which might originate from the large internal field at the interface. These nanoparticles could be used for further studying on the size effects and the ferroelectricity of nanocrystal.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problems that this paper attempts to solve mainly focus on how to prepare lithium niobate (LiNbO₃) nanoparticles with a specific orientation and study the ferroelectric behavior of these nanoparticles. Specifically, the author prepared an ultrathin LiNbO₃ film with (00l) orientation on a platinum/titanium/silica/silicon (Pt/Ti/SiO₂/Si) substrate by pulsed - laser deposition (PLD) technology, and then formed discrete nanoparticles by annealing in an oxygen atmosphere. These nanoparticles exhibit ferroelectricity, and their hysteresis loops are asymmetric, which may originate from the strong internal electric field at the interface. The main objectives of the paper include: 1. **Prepare LiNbO₃ nanoparticles with a specific orientation**: Through PLD technology and annealing process, (00l) - oriented LiNbO₃ nanoparticles were successfully prepared. 2. **Study the ferroelectric properties of nanoparticles**: Using piezoresponse force microscopy (PFM) technology, the surface morphology and ferroelectric behavior of these nanoparticles were studied, especially their hysteresis loops and polarization directions. 3. **Analyze the size effect of nanoparticles**: The influence of nanoparticle size on ferroelectric properties was explored, especially the attenuation of ferroelectricity at small sizes. 4. **Understand the origin of the internal electric field**: Through experimental observations and theoretical analyses, the possible sources of the internal electric field that causes the asymmetry of the hysteresis loop were explored, including the influence of point defects and interface layers. Through these studies, the author hopes to provide a deeper understanding of the size effect and other related physical properties of ferroelectric nanomaterials, thereby providing a theoretical and experimental basis for future integrated optics and nonlinear optics applications.
