Abstract:Developing high-strength dissolvable magnesium alloys is always a pursuing goal for the fracturing plugging tools working in extremely unconventional oil and gas extraction. Herein, we reported a dissolvable Mg-9.5Gd-2.7Y-0.9Zn-0.8Cu (wt.%) alloy with the highest yield strength reported so far, i.e. a tensile yield strength (TYS) of 434.9 MPa, compressive yield strength (CYS) of 478.1 MPa. High yield strength was derived from the composite effect of fine dynamic recrystallized (DRXed) grains caused by block long-period stacking ordered (LPSO) phase, LPSO phase with different morphologies, dense β ' precipitates. Moreover, this alloy attains a decent corrosion rate of 786.2 mm/y at 93 °C in 3 wt% KCl solutions, which mainly is attributed to the galvanic corrosion between the LPSO phase and the Mg matrix. This work provides an approving material selection for the fabrication of dissolvable fracturing tools used in the deep oil and gas well.
