Abstract:We shall investigate a flipping contraction g : X -> Y from a 4-fold X with at most isolated complete intersection singularities. If Y has an anti-bi-canonical divisor (=bi-elephant) with only rational singularities, then g carries an inductive structure chained up by blow-ups (La Torre Pendente), and in particular the flip exists. This naturally contains Miles Reid's `Pagoda' as an anti-canonical divisor (=elephant) and its proper transforms.

Abstract:This is a revised version of my paper which appeared in J. Math. Sci. Univ. Tokyo. We prove that for a flipping contraction from a Gorenstein terminal 4-fold, the pull back of a general hyperplane section of the down-stair has only canonical singularities. Based on this fact and using Siu-Kawamata-Nakayama's extension theorem [Si], [Kaw4], [Kaw5] and [Nak2], we prove the existence of the flip of such a flipping contraction. Furthermore we classify such flipping contractions and the flips under some additional assumptions.

Abstract:In this paper, we construct and classify a new family of flips, called generalized Grassmannian flips, by generalizing the construction of standard flips for $\mathbb{P}^m\times \mathbb{P}^n$ to any generalized Grassmannian $G/P$, where $P$ is a maximal parabolic subgroup of a complex semi-simple algebraic group. In addition, we show that a 9-fold generalized Grassmannian flip for $Sp(6, \mathbb{C})$ satisfies the DK flip conjecture by Bondal-Orlov and Kawamata via mutation techniques by Kuznetsov and Thomas' chess game method.

Abstract:We prove that any sequence of 4-dimensional log flips that begins with a klt pair (X,D) such that -(K+D) is numerically equivalent to an effective divisor, terminates. This implies termination of flips that begin with a log Fano pair and termination of flips in a relative birational setting. We also prove termination of directed flips with big K+D. As a consequence, we prove existence of minimal models of 4-dimensional dlt pairs of general type, existence of 5-dimensional log flips, and rationality of Kodaira energy in dimension 4.

Abstract:Let X be a compact, Kahler, Calabi-Yau threefold and suppose X ↦X_⇝Xt$X\mapsto \underline{X}\leadsto X_t$ , for t & ISIN;& UDelta;$t\in \Delta$, is a conifold transition obtained by contracting finitely many disjoint (-1,-1)$(-1,-1)$ curves in X and then smoothing the resulting ordinary double point singularities. We show that, for |t|MUCH LESS-THAN1$|t|\ll 1$ sufficiently small, the tangent bundle T1,0Xt$T<^>{1,0}X_{t}$ admits a Hermitian-Yang-Mills metric Ht$H_t$ with respect to the conformally balanced metrics constructed by Fu-Li-Yau. Furthermore, we describe the behavior of Ht$H_t$ near the vanishing cycles of Xt$X_t$ as t & RARR;0$t\rightarrow 0$.

Abstract:Given a Q-Cartier divisor $S \subset X$ admitting a fibration $S \rightarrow B$ onto a curve we give sufficient conditions for the existence of a bimeromorphic contraction contracting S onto B. As a corollary we recover a contraction result for compact Kähler threefolds.

In this article, we classify threefold flips and flops which are the GIT quotients of complete intersections in C6. Assume that each irreducible component of $C$ contains at most one point of index $>2$. We prove that a general member $D\in |{-}K_X|$ is a normal surface with Du Val singularities.

Flops for Complete Intersection Calabi-Yau Threefolds

Abstract:We study flops of Calabi-Yau threefolds realised as Kaehler-favourable complete intersections in products of projective spaces (CICYs) and identify two different types. The existence and the type of the flops can be recognised from the configuration matrix of the CICY, which also allows for constructing such examples. The first type corresponds to rows containing only 1s and 0s, while the second type corresponds to rows containing a single entry of 2, followed by 1s and 0s. We give explicit descriptions for the manifolds obtained after the flop and show that the second type of flop always leads to isomorphic manifolds, while the first type in general leads to non-isomorphic flops. The singular manifolds involved in the flops are determinantal varieties in the first case and more complicated in the second case. We also discuss manifolds admitting an infinite chain of flops and show how to identify these from the configuration matrix. Finally, we point out how to construct the divisor images and Picard group isomorphisms under both types of flops.

Abstract:Let $\Sigma$ and $\Sigma'$ be two refinements of a fan $\Sigma_0$ and $f \colon X_{\Sigma} \dashrightarrow X_{\Sigma'}$ be the birational map induced by $X_{\Sigma} \rightarrow X_{\Sigma_0} \leftarrow X_{\Sigma'}$. We show that the graph closure $\overline{\Gamma}_f$ is a not necessarily normal toric variety and we give a combinatorial criterion for its normality. In contrast to it, for $f$ being a toric flop/flip, we show that the scheme-theoretic fiber product $X:=X_{\Sigma}\mathop{\times}\limits_{X_{\Sigma_0}}X_{\Sigma'}$ is in general not toric, though it is still irreducible and $X_{\rm red} = \overline{\Gamma}_f$. A complete numerical criterion to ensure $X = X_{\rm red}$ is given for 3-folds, which is fulfilled when $X_\Sigma$ has at most terminal singularities. In this case, we further conclude that $X$ is normal.

Abstract:Any toric flip naturally induces an equivalence between the associated categories of equivariant reflexive sheaves, and we investigate how slope stability behaves through this functor. On one hand, for a fixed toric sheaf, and natural polarisations that make the exceptional loci small, we provide a simple numerical criterion that characterizes when slope stability is preserved through the flip. On the other hand, for a given flip, we introduce full subcategories of logarithmic toric sheaves and characterize when polystability is preserved for all toric sheaves in those subcategories at once.

Abstract:This paper gives the first description of derived monodromy on the stringy Kähler moduli space (SKMS) for a general irreducible flopping curve C in a 3-fold X with mild singularities. We do this by constructing two new infinite helices: the first consists of sheaves supported on C, and the second comprises vector bundles in a tubular neighbourhood. We prove that these helices determine the simples and projectives in iterated tilts of the category of perverse sheaves, and that all objects in the first helix induce a twist autoequivalence for X. We show that these new derived symmetries, along with established ones, induce the full monodromy on the SKMS. The helices have many further applications. We (1) prove representability of noncommutative deformations of all successive thickenings of a length l flopping curve, via tilting theory, (2) control the representing objects, characterise when they are not commutative, and their central quotients, and (3) give new and sharp theoretical lower bounds on Gopakumar-Vafa invariants for a curve of length l. When X is smooth and resolves an affine base, we furthermore (4) prove that the second helix classifies all tilting reflexive sheaves on X, and thus that (5) all noncommutative crepant resolutions arise from tilting bundles on X.
