Abstract:Let $\mathbb{K}$ be an algebraically closed field of characteristic $p>5$. We show the existence of minimal models for pseudo-effective NQC klt generalized pairs in dimension three over $\mathbb{K}$. As a consequence, we prove the termination of flips for pseudo-effective threefold NQC klt generalized pairs over $\mathbb{K}$. This provides a new proof on the termination of flips for pseudo-effective pairs over $\mathbb{K}$ without using the non-vanishing theorems. A key ingredient of our proof is the ACC for lc thresholds in dimension $\leq 3$ and the global ACC in dimension $\leq 2$ for generalized pairs over $\mathbb{K}$.

Abstract:In this article we show that the Log Minimal Model Program for $\mathbb{Q}$-factorial dlt pairs $(X, B)$ on a compact Kähler $3$-fold holds. More specifically, we show that after finitely many divisorial contractions and flips we obtain either a (log) minimal model or a Mori fiber space. We also prove a base point free theorem Kähler $3$-folds.

Abstract:For lc algebraically integrable foliations on klt varieties, we prove the base-point-freeness theorem, the contraction theorem, and the existence of flips. The first result resolves a conjecture of Cascini and Spicer, while the latter two results strengthen a result of Cascini and Spicer by removing their assumption on the termination of flips. Moreover, we prove the existence of the minimal model program for lc algebraically integrable foliations on klt varieties and the existence of good minimal models or Mori fiber spaces for lc algebraically integrable foliations polarized with ample divisors on klt varieties. As a consequence, we show that $\mathbb{Q}$-factorial klt varieties with lc algebraically integrable Fano foliation structures are Mori dream spaces. We also show the existence of a Shokurov-type polytope for lc algebraically integrable foliations.

Abstract:We prove that for any two minimal models of an lc algebraically integrable foliated triple on potentially klt varieties, there exist small birational models that are connected by a sequence of flops. In particular, any two minimal models of lc algebraically integrable foliated triples on $\mathbb Q$-factorial klt varieties are connected by a sequence of flops. We also discuss the connection between minimal models for possibly non-algebraically integrable foliations on threefolds, assuming the minimal model program for generalized foliated quadruples.

Abstract:We prove Iitaka's C_n,m conjecture for 3-folds over the algebraic closure of finite fields. Along the way we prove some results on the birational geometry of log surfaces over nonclosed fields and apply these to existence of relative good minimal models of 3-folds.

Abstract:We show that the Friedlander-Mazur conjecture holds for a complex smooth projective variety X of dimension three implies the standard conjectures hold for X. This together with a result of Friedlander yields the equivalence of the two conjectures in dimension three. From this we provide some new examples whose standard conjectures hold.

Abstract:Let $X$ be a smooth Fano threefold over an algebraically closed field of positive characteristic. Assume that $|-K_X|$ is very ample and each of the index and the Picard number is equal to one. We prove that $3 \leq g \leq 12$ and $g \neq 11$ for the genus $g$ of $X$. Moreover, we show that there exists no smooth curve on $X$ along which the blowup is Fano.

Abstract:Assume that X is a smooth projective 3-fold with ample K-X. We study a problem of Miles Reid to prove the inequality K-X(3) greater than or equal to 2/3(2p(g)(X) - 5), where p(g)(X) is the geometric genus. This inequality is sharp according to known examples of M. Kobayashi. We also birationally classify arbitrary minimal 3-folds of general type with small slope.

Abstract:In this paper, we construct and classify a new family of flips, called generalized Grassmannian flips, by generalizing the construction of standard flips for $\mathbb{P}^m\times \mathbb{P}^n$ to any generalized Grassmannian $G/P$, where $P$ is a maximal parabolic subgroup of a complex semi-simple algebraic group. In addition, we show that a 9-fold generalized Grassmannian flip for $Sp(6, \mathbb{C})$ satisfies the DK flip conjecture by Bondal-Orlov and Kawamata via mutation techniques by Kuznetsov and Thomas' chess game method.

Flops for Complete Intersection Calabi-Yau Threefolds

Abstract:We study flops of Calabi-Yau threefolds realised as Kaehler-favourable complete intersections in products of projective spaces (CICYs) and identify two different types. The existence and the type of the flops can be recognised from the configuration matrix of the CICY, which also allows for constructing such examples. The first type corresponds to rows containing only 1s and 0s, while the second type corresponds to rows containing a single entry of 2, followed by 1s and 0s. We give explicit descriptions for the manifolds obtained after the flop and show that the second type of flop always leads to isomorphic manifolds, while the first type in general leads to non-isomorphic flops. The singular manifolds involved in the flops are determinantal varieties in the first case and more complicated in the second case. We also discuss manifolds admitting an infinite chain of flops and show how to identify these from the configuration matrix. Finally, we point out how to construct the divisor images and Picard group isomorphisms under both types of flops.

Abstract:A complex smooth prime Fano threefold $X$ of genus $9$ is related via projective duality to a quartic plane curve $\Gamma$. We use this setup to study the restriction of rank $2$ stable sheaves with prescribed Chern classes on $X$ to an anticanonical $K3$ surface $S\subset X$. Varying the threefold $X$ containing $S$ gives a rational Lagrangian fibration $$\mathcal{M}_S(2,1,7) \dashrightarrow \mathbb{P}^3$$ with generic fibre birational to the moduli space $\mathcal{M}_X(2,1,7)$ of sheaves on $X$. Moreover, we prove that this rational fibration extends to an actual fibration on a birational model $\mathcal{M}$ of $\mathcal{M}_S(2,1,7)$. In a last part, we use Bridgeland stability conditions to exhibit all $K$-trivial smooth birational models of $\mathcal{M}_S(2,1,7)$, which consist in itself and $\mathcal{M}$. We prove that these models are related by a flop, and we describe the positive, movable and nef cones of $\mathcal{M}_S(2,1,7)$.

Abstract:A conjecture, known as the Shokurov-Kollár connectedness principle, predicts the following. Let $(X,B)$ be a pair, and let $f \colon X \rightarrow S$ be a contraction with $-(K_X + B)$ nef over $S$; then, for any point $s \in S$, the intersection $f^{-1} (s) \cap \mathrm{Nklt}(X,B)$ has at most two connected components, where $\mathrm{Nklt}(X,B)$ denotes the non-klt locus of $(X,B)$. This conjecture has been extensively studied in characteristic zero, and it has been recently settled in that context. In this work, we consider this conjecture in the setup of positive characteristic algebraic geometry. We prove this conjecture holds for threefolds in characteristic $p> 5$, and, under the same assumptions, we characterize the cases in which $\mathrm{Nklt}(X,B)$ fails to be connected.

Abstract:We shall investigate a flipping contraction g : X -> Y from a 4-fold X with at most isolated complete intersection singularities. If Y has an anti-bi-canonical divisor (=bi-elephant) with only rational singularities, then g carries an inductive structure chained up by blow-ups (La Torre Pendente), and in particular the flip exists. This naturally contains Miles Reid's `Pagoda' as an anti-canonical divisor (=elephant) and its proper transforms.

Abstract:We show that mixed-characteristic and equi-characteristic small deformations of 3-dimensional canonical (resp. terminal) singularities with perfect residue field of characteristic $p>5$ are canonical (resp. terminal). We discuss applications to arithmetic and geometric families of 3-dimensional Fano varieties and minimal models with canonical singularities. Our results are contingent upon the existence of log resolutions of 4-folds.
