Abstract:We deal with a divisorial contraction in dimension 3 which contracts its exceptional divisor to a cA_1 point. We prove that any such contraction is obtained by a suitable weighted blow-up.

Abstract:First, we simplify the existing classification due to Kawakita and Yamamoto of 3-dimensional divisorial contractions with centre a $cA_n$-singularity, also called compound $A_n$ singularity. Next, we describe the global algebraic divisorial contractions corresponding to a given local analytic equivalence class of divisorial contractions with centre a point. Finally, we consider divisorial contractions of discrepancy at least 2 to a fixed variety with centre a $cA_n$-singularity. We show that if there exists one such divisorial contraction, then there exist uncountably many such divisorial contractions.

Abstract:We consider weak Fano manifolds with small contractions obtained by blowing up successively curves and subvarieties of codimension 2 in products of projective spaces. We give a classification result for a special case. Abstract:We identify a set of initial rational contractions of fiber type on $\overline{M}_{0,6}$. Our proof uses a new algorithm we develop for verifying descriptions of the cone of effective divisors on varieties without elementary rational contractions of fiber type. On Mori dream spaces, our algorithm identifies faces of the cone of nef curves associated to initial rational contractions of fiber type.

Abstract:We study the exceptional loci of birational (bimeromorphic) contractions of a hyperkähler manifold $M$. Such a contraction locus is the union of all minimal rational curves in a collection of cohomology classes which are orthogonal to a wall of the Kähler cone. Homology classes which can possibly be orthogonal to a wall of the Kähler cone of some deformation of $M$ are called MBM classes. We prove that all MBM classes of type (1,1) can be represented by rational curves, called MBM curves. All MBM curves can be contracted on an appropriate birational model of $M$, unless $b_2(M) \leq 5$. When $b_2(M)>5$, this property can be used as an alternative definition of an MBM class and an MBM curve. Using the results of Bakker and Lehn, we prove that the diffeomorphism type of a contraction locus remains stable under all deformations for which these classes remains of type (1,1), unless the contracted variety has $b_2\leq 4$. Moreover, these diffeomorphisms preserve the MBM curves, and induce biholomorphic maps on the contraction fibers, if they are normal.

Abstract:Let $Y$ be an effective Cartier divisor of a smooth variety $Z$. Let $X_{i}$, $i\in \{1,\cdots,n\}$ be a set of pairwise disjoint smooth subvarieties in $Y$ such that their union contains the singular locus of $Y$. In this paper, we give a sufficient condition such that $Bl_{X}Y$ is smooth, where $X$ is the disjoint union of all $X_{i}$. Moreover, we prove that assuming a dimensional condition, there is an admissible subcategory of $D^{b}(Bl_{X}Y)$ which is a weak categorical crepant resolution of $Y$ in the sense of Kuznetsov.

Abstract:Using representations of vertex operator algebras, we describe the line bundles on a wide range of contractions of $\overline{\rm{M}}_{0,n}$, the moduli space of stable $n$-pointed rational curves, by proving a stronger version of the contraction theorem for these morphisms. These include the celebrated constructions of Kapranov, Keel, and Knudsen. Our main result suggests that while many so-called F-curves are not $K_X$-negative, they exhibit behavior similar to $K_X$-negative curves. This reveals for instance, a distinguished property of Knudsen's construction $f_{\text{Knu}}:\overline{\rm{M}}_{0,n}\to \overline{\rm{M}}_{0,n-1}\times_{\overline{\rm{M}}_{0,n-2}}\overline{\rm{M}}_{0,n-1}$, allowing for the classification of all possible factorizations of $f_{\text{Knu}}$, as well as further applications, and generalizations.

Andô dilations for a pair of commuting contractions: two explicit constructions and functional models

Abstract:One of the most important results in operator theory is Andô's \cite{ando} generalization of dilation theory for a single contraction to a pair of commuting contractions acting on a Hilbert space. While there are two explicit constructions (Schäffer \cite{sfr} and Douglas \cite{Doug-Dilation}) of the minimal isometric dilation of a single contraction, there was no such explicit construction of an Andô dilation for a commuting pair $(T_1,T_2)$ of contractions, except in some special cases \cite{A-M-Dist-Var, D-S, D-S-S}. In this paper, we give two new proofs of Andô's dilation theorem by giving both Schäffer-type and Douglas-type explicit constructions of an Andô dilation with function-theoretic interpretation, for the general case. The results, in particular, give a complete description of all possible factorizations of a given contraction $T$ into the product of two commuting contractions. Unlike the one-variable case, two minimal Andô dilations need not be unitarily equivalent. However, we show that the compressions of the two Andô dilations constructed in this paper to the minimal dilation spaces of the contraction $T_1T_2$, are unitarily equivalent. In the special case when the product $T=T_1T_2$ is pure, i.e., if $T^{* n}\to 0$ strongly, an Andô dilation was constructed recently in \cite{D-S-S}, which, as this paper will show, is a corollary to the Douglas-type construction. We define a notion of characteristic triple for a pair of commuting contractions and a notion of coincidence for such triples. We prove that two pairs of commuting contractions with their products being pure contractions are unitarily equivalent if and only if their characteristic triples coincide. We also characterize triples which qualify as the characteristic triple for some pair $(T_1,T_2)$ of commuting contractions such that $T_1T_2$ is a pure contraction.

Abstract:In [5], Donovan and Wemyss introduced the contraction algebra of flopping curves in 3-folds. They conjectured that the contraction algebra determines the formal neighborhood of the underlying singularity of the contraction. In this paper, we prove that the contraction algebra together with its natural $A_\infty$-structure constructed in [10], determine the formal neighborhood of the singularity.

This result is a starting point of the minimal model program for complex analytic log canonical pairs. Abstract:A geometric generalization of contraction theory called~$k$-contraction was recently developed using $k$-compound matrices. In this note, we focus on the relations between $k$-contraction and two other generalized contraction frameworks: partial contraction (also known as virtual contraction) and horizontal contraction. We show that in general these three notions of contraction are different. We here provide new sufficient conditions guaranteeing that partial contraction implies horizontal contraction, and that horizontal contraction implies $k$-contraction. We use the Andronov-Hopf oscillator to demonstrate some of the theoretical results.
