Abstract:We prove several formulas related to Hodge theory and the Kodaira–Spencer–Kuranishi deformation theory of Kähler manifolds. As applications, we present a construction of globally convergent power series of integrable Beltrami differentials on Calabi–Yau manifolds and also a construction of global canonical family of holomorphic (n,0) -forms on the deformation spaces of Calabi–Yau manifolds. Similar constructions are also applied to the deformation spaces of compact Kähler manifolds.

Abstract: We prove the existence of global sections trivializing the Hodge bundles on the Hodge metric completion space of the Torelli space of Calabi--Yau manifolds, a global splitting property of these Hodge bundles. We also prove that a compact Calabi--Yau manifold can not be deformed to its complex conjugate. These results answer certain open questions in the subject. A general result about the period map to be bi-holomorphic from the Hodge metric completion space of the Torelli space of Calabi--Yau type manifolds to their period domains is proved and applied to the cases of K$3$ surfaces, cubic fourfolds, and hyperk\"ahler manifolds.

Abstract:We give a differential-geometric construction and examples of Calabi-Yau threefolds, at least one of which is {\it{new}}. Ingredients in our construction are {\it admissible pairs}, which were dealt with by Kovalev in \cite{K03} and further studied by Kovalev and Lee in \cite{KL11}. An admissible pair $(\overline{X},D)$ consists of a three-dimensional compact Kähler manifold $\overline{X}$ and a smooth anticanonical $K3$ divisor $D$ on $\overline{X}$. If two admissible pairs $(\overline{X}_1,D_1)$ and $(\overline{X}_2,D_2)$ satisfy the {\it gluing condition}, we can glue $\overline{X}_1\setminus D_1$ and $\overline{X}_2\setminus D_2$ together to obtain a Calabi-Yau threefold $M$. In particular, if $(\overline{X}_1,D_1)$ and $(\overline{X}_2,D_2)$ are identical to an admissible pair $(\overline{X},D)$, then the gluing condition holds automatically, so that we can {\it always} construct a Calabi-Yau threefold from a {\it single} admissible pair $(\overline{X},D)$ by {\it doubling} it. Furthermore, we can compute all Betti and Hodge numbers of the resulting Calabi-Yau threefolds in the doubling construction.

Abstract:The aim of the paper is to investigate the only two families $\mathcal{F}^A_{G}$ of Calabi-Yau $3$-folds $A/G$ with $A$ an abelian $3$-fold and $G\le \text{Aut}(A)$ a finite group acting freely: one in constructed by Catanese and Demleitner and the other is presented here. We provide a complete classification of the automorphism group of $X\in \mathcal{F}^A_{G}$. Additionally, we construct and classify the quotients $X/\Upsilon$ for any $\Upsilon\le \text{Aut}(X)$. Specifically, for those groups $\Upsilon$ that preserve the volume form of $X$ then $X/\Upsilon$ admits a desingularization $Y$ which is a Calabi-Yau $3$-fold: we compute the Hodge numbers and the fundamental group of these $Y$, thereby determining all topological in-equivalent Calabi-Yau $3$-folds obtained in this way.

Fibered Calabi-Yau threefolds with relative automorphisms of positive entropy and $c_2$-contractions

Abstract:We show that an abelian fibered Calabi-Yau threefold with a positive entropy automorphism preserving the fibration is unique up to isomorphisms as fibered varieties. We also give a fairly explicit structure theorem of an elliptically fibered Calabi-Yau threefold with a positive entropy automorphism preserving the fibration.

Counting Calabi-Yau Threefolds

Abstract:We enumerate topologically-inequivalent compact Calabi-Yau threefold hypersurfaces. By computing arithmetic and algebraic invariants and the Gopakumar-Vafa invariants of curves, we prove that the number of distinct simply connected Calabi-Yau threefold hypersurfaces resulting from triangulations of four-dimensional reflexive polytopes is 4, 27, 183, 1,184 and 8,036 at $h^{1,1}$ = 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5, respectively. We also establish that there are ten equivalence classes of Wall data of non-simply connected Calabi-Yau threefolds from the Kreuzer-Skarke list. Finally, we give a provisional count of threefolds obtained by enumerating non-toric flops at $h^{1,1} =2$.

Abstract:Using the Kreuzer-Skarke database of 4-dimensional reflexive polytopes, we systematically constructed a new database of orientifold Calabi-Yau threefolds with h 1 , 1 ( X ) ≤ 12. Our approach involved non-trivial Z 2 involutions, incorporating both divisor exchanges and multi-divisor reflections acting on the Calabi-Yau threefolds. Each proper involution results in an orientifold Calabi-Yau threefolds and we constructed 320 , 386 , 067 such examples. We developed a novel algorithm that significantly reduces the complexity of determining all the fixed loci under the involutions, and clarifies the types of O-planes. Our results show that under proper involutions, the majority of cases end up with O 3 /O 7-plane systems, and most of these further admit a naive Type IIB string vacua. Additionally, a new type of free action was determined. We also computed the smoothness and the splitting of Hodge numbers in the Z 2 -orbifold limit for these orientifold Calabi-Yau threefolds.

Abstract:In this paper, we classify all isomorphic classes of a family of Calabi-Yau 3-folds with 20 parameters. In addition, we show that the isomorphisms form a finite group. The invariants under the action of this group are calculated by introducing the so-called DS-graph.

Abstract:The diffeomorphism class of simply-connected smooth Calabi-Yau threefolds with torsion-free cohomology is determined via certain basic topological invariants: the Hodge numbers, the triple intersection form, and the second Chern class. In the present paper, we shed some light on this classification by placing bounds on the number of diffeomorphism classes present in the set of smooth Calabi-Yau threefolds constructed from the Kreuzer-Skarke list of reflexive polytopes up to Picard number six. The main difficulty arises from the comparison of triple intersection numbers and divisor integrals of the second Chern class up to basis transformations. By using certain basis-independent invariants, some of which appear here for the first time, we are able to place lower bounds on the number of classes. Upper bounds are obtained by explicitly identifying basis transformations, using constraints related to the index of line bundles. Extrapolating our results, we conjecture that the favourable entries of the Kreuzer-Skarke list of reflexive polytopes leads to some $10^{400}$ diffeomorphically distinct Calabi-Yau threefolds.

Asymptotically cylindrical Calabi-Yau 3-folds from weak Fano 3-folds

Abstract:We prove the existence of asymptotically cylindrical (ACyl) Calabi-Yau 3-folds starting with (almost) any deformation family of smooth weak Fano 3-folds. This allow us to exhibit hundreds of thousands of new ACyl Calabi-Yau 3-folds; previously only a few hundred ACyl Calabi-Yau 3-folds were known. We pay particular attention to a subclass of weak Fano 3-folds that we call semi-Fano 3-folds. Semi-Fano 3-folds satisfy stronger cohomology vanishing theorems and enjoy certain topological properties not satisfied by general weak Fano 3-folds, but are far more numerous than genuine Fano 3-folds. Also, unlike Fanos they often contain P^1s with normal bundle O(-1) + O(-1), giving rise to compact rigid holomorphic curves in the associated ACyl Calabi-Yau 3-folds. We introduce some general methods to compute the basic topological invariants of ACyl Calabi-Yau 3-folds constructed from semi-Fano 3-folds, and study a small number of representative examples in detail. Similar methods allow the computation of the topology in many other examples. All the features of the ACyl Calabi-Yau 3-folds studied here find application in <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1207.4470" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1207.4470">arXiv:1207.4470</a> where we construct many new compact G_2-manifolds using Kovalev's twisted connected sum construction. ACyl Calabi-Yau 3-folds constructed from semi-Fano 3-folds are particularly well-adapted for this purpose.

Abstract:This is a short review of recent constructions of new Calabi-Yau threefolds with small Hodge numbers and/or non-trivial fundamental group, which are of particular interest for model-building in the context of heterotic string theory. The two main tools are topological transitions and taking quotients by actions of discrete groups. Both of these techniques can produce new manifolds from existing ones, and they have been used to bring many new specimens to the previously sparse corner of the Calabi-Yau zoo where both Hodge numbers are small. Two new manifolds are also obtained here from hyperconifold transitions, including the first example with fundamental group S3, the smallest non-Abelian group.

Abstract:We define relative Gromov-Witten invariants and establish a general gluing theory of pseudo-holomorphic curves for symplectic cutting and contact surgery. Then, we use our general gluing theory to study the change of GW-invariants of Calabi-Yau 3-folds tranform under flops and extremal transitions. We prove a complete formula for the change of GW-invariants of any genus transform under flop and a general type I extremal transition. Other extremal transition will be handled in a subsequent paper.

Abstract:We develop the deformation theory of Calabi-Yau threefolds, by which we mean 3-dimensional complex manifolds with a nowhere-vanishing holomorphic 3-form, on manifolds with boundary. The boundary data is a closed, real 3-form on the 5-dimensional boundary. In the case of strongly pseudoconvex boundary, we obtain an analogue of Hitchin's local Torelli Theorem for compact manifolds, modulo a finite dimensional obstruction space, which we show is zero in many cases of interest.

Abstract:We give a simplified and more algebraic proof of the finiteness of the families of Calabi-Yau n-folds with non-vanishing of Yukawa-coupling over a fixed base curve and with fixed degeneration locus. We also give a generalization of this result. Our method is variation of Hodge structure and poly-stability of Higgs bundles.

Abstract:At special loci in their moduli spaces, Calabi-Yau manifolds are endowed with discrete symmetries. Over the years, such spaces have been intensely studied and have found a variety of important applications. As string compactifications they are phenomenologically favored, and considerably simplify many important calculations. Mathematically, they provided the framework for the first construction of mirror manifolds, and the resulting rational curve counts. Thus, it is of significant interest to investigate such manifolds further. In this paper, we consider several unexplored loci within familiar families of Calabi-Yau hypersurfaces that have large but unexpected discrete symmetry groups. By deriving, correcting, and generalizing a technique similar to that of Candelas, de la Ossa and Rodriguez-Villegas, we find a calculationally tractable means of finding the Picard-Fuchs equations satisfied by the periods of all 3-forms in these families. To provide a modest point of comparison, we then briefly investigate the relation between the size of the symmetry group along these loci and the number of nonzero Yukawa couplings. We include an introductory exposition of the mathematics involved, intended to be accessible to physicists, in order to make the discussion self-contained.

Abstract:We classify completely reducible equivariant vector bundles on Grassmannians of exceptional Lie groups which give Calabi--Yau 3-folds as complete intersections. In particular, we find a new family of Calabi--Yau 3-folds in an $E_6$-Grassmannian.

Abstract:We investigate topological properties of Calabi-Yau four-folds and consider a wide class of explicit constructions in weighted projective spaces and, more generally, toric varieties. Divisors which lead to a non-perturbative superpotential in the effective theory have a very simple description in the toric construction. Relevant properties of them follow just by counting lattice points and can also be used to construct examples with negative Euler number. We study nets of transitions between cases with generically smooth elliptic fibres and cases with ADE gauge symmetries in the N = 1 theory due to degenerations of the fibre over codimension one loci in the base. Finally we investigate the quantum cohomology ring of this four-folds using Frobenius algebra.
