Abstract:Molecular dynamics simulations were conducted to investigate the mobility of edge dislocation on FeNiCrCoCu FCC high-entropy alloy. We calculated the effects of temperature and stress on the dislocation velocity and evaluated the material’s drag coefficient. The drag coefficient was found to be one order of magnitude higher compared to ferritic and austenitic steels. In turn, the dislocation mobility is one order of magnitude lower, resulting in much higher strength. Furthermore, the simulation results suggest that the velocity of the edge dislocation fluctuates highly at low stresses. The fluctuation decreases at higher stresses until becoming almost negligible. The change at the lower stresses is attributed to the lattice distortion at the local level that affects the dislocation motion. As a result, the dislocation mobility depends strongly on the local composition of the neighborhood of the dislocation in a high-entropy alloy.Graphical abstract
