Abstract:A new bulk glassy alloy Ti53Cu27Ni12Zr3Al7Si3B1 with high thermal stability was prepared by copper mold casting method. The glass transition temperature (T-g), the crystallization temperature (T-x), the supercooled liquid region (T-x=T-x-T-g) and the reduced glass transition temperature (T-g/T-m) are 685 K, 754 K, 69 K and 0.62, respectively. The high thermal stability of the supercooled liquid as well as the high reduced glass transition temperature enables us to produce bulk glassy alloys with a diameter of 2 turn by copper mold casting. The crystallization of the glassy alloy is divided into three processes, the devitrification of the metastable phase partly, the primary phase (NiTi2, NiTi, delta-CuTi and CuTi2) and the stable phase (NiTi2, NiTi, CuTi3 and a unkown phase). The method of Kissinger was employed to calculate the apparent activation energies of the three exothermic peaks. The results are 377.86 kJ/mol, 322.97 kJ/moI and 311.17 kJ/mol, respectively. The first process needs more apparent activation energy, which suppresses the crystallization of the amorphous and increases the GFA (glass forming ability) and the thermal stability.
