Abstract:The importance of greening of modern agricultural production in terms of increasing the use of toxic substances of chemical or biological origin, which requires the direction of modern agricultural production in the direction of greening of artificial and natural factors of production, giving these issues extreme relevance. The conceptual and categorical transformation of ecological aspects of agriculture is given, which alternately took the form of the principle of agrarian law first as the principle of greening of labor in agriculture, then – the principle of greening of agriculture, ecological orientation of entrepreneurship in agriculture, and later – greening of agriculture and finally, acquired the formulation of the principle of greening of agricultural legislation. Other variants of the author's positions are also presented, among which the greening of agrarian law or directly the principles of agrarian law, as well as the state agrarian policy are considered. Based on the general nature of the principles, the implementation of which requires implementation in the regulations of the legislation, the priority of formulating the principle of greening of agricultural legislation is substantiated. At the same time, there are examples of greening the content of status agrarian laws, as well as non-«greening» status laws, which indicates the incomplete implementation of this principle in agricultural legislation. An array of functional agrarian laws is analyzed for certain areas of activity, which in quantitative terms and in terms of coverage outweigh the greening of status laws. Abstract:THE growing inadequacy in the supplies of farmyard manure throughout the world has put a premium on the importance of green manuring, and much attention is being paid to the most profitable utilisation of this method of soil improvement. The actual practice is of very ancient date, but scientific interest in what really goes on in the soil when green crops are ploughed under has only been aroused comparatively recently. Dr. Pieters attacks his problem both from the theoretical and practical points of view, keeping the economic factor well before him. The effects of organic matter in the soil are both physical and biochemical, and the action of the soil micro-organisms encouraged by its presence may react favourably or unfavourably to crop plants according to circumstances. The turning under of much green material low in nitrogen may result in reduced crop yields, owing to the utilisation of the soil nitrates by micro-organisms, whereas leguminous or other material high in nitrogen benefits crops, owing to the release of ammonia which is converted into nitrates. As yet our knowledge of what actually happens in the soil is far from complete, resulting in frequent failures when green manuring is attempted under faulty conditions. Much more research is needed to enable cultivators to make the fullest and best use of this extremely valuable source of organic matter in the soil.

Despite its potential to address crucial issues like food security, energy sustainability, and environmental stewardship, sustainable agriculture faces challenges. These include the scalability of its practices, potential economic constraints in the short term, and the need for significant shifts in policy and consumer behavior. A more explicit definition could encapsulate sustainable agriculture as integrating innovative practices that are environmentally benign, economically feasible, and socially equitable. This encompasses practices that reduce water scarcity, combat soil degradation, and address climate change impacts—crucial steps toward a robust and future-proof agricultural system. By acknowledging these challenges and specifying issues like water scarcity, soil health, and climate change, this abstract presents a balanced view of sustainable agriculture's role in a sustainable future, highlighting its necessity and the urgent need for integrated efforts to overcome its implementation barriers.

Abstract:This chapter explores knowledge politics in development-oriented agronomy. It focuses on dominant framings and popular research themes: the rise of the new global food security agenda, which marks agronomy's renaissance and reframing as a global food security science; the framing and reframing of long-standing debates related to farm size and agronomic practices; questions over scales of analysis and the evolution from plot-based to place-based agronomy; and the growing influence of the New Public Management principles on agricultural research priorities and processes. The chapter suggests that development-oriented agronomy is at a critical juncture, facing a once-in-a-generation opportunity to re-imagine itself. Agronomy is increasingly operating in a space where uncertainty is large and the stakes are high, and where many opinions and ideas are heard – what Ravetz called 'post-normal science'. The basic principles of agronomy – including production ecology and the crop and soil sciences – are now well understood.

Abstract:Climate change, the population explosion and the growing demand for good food and health require better, more reliable and more efficient. The different shape, size, composition and ability to interact with organic compounds make nanomaterials and technology widely used. Nano formulations and their applications in agriculture in the form of agrochemicals for crop protection, toxicity identification by nanobiosensors, genetic manipulation of plants treated by nanodevices, and rapid and efficient diseases of plants. The delivery of genetic material and proteins via nano-arrays has been proven in crop engineering, drug delivery and environmental monitoring. Nanotechnology also benefits the food industry by improving all stages of food production from food processing to production, processing, packaging, safety, extending shelf life, testing for disease and creating smart foods. Therefore, technology can meet the needs of most consumers, including the improvement of food products and their sensations, and can improve product quality, texture soft and nutritious food without affecting its natural properties.

Abstract:A growing number of agricultural scientists, environmentalists, government officials, farmers, and both urban and rural laymen, have become increasingly alarmed over the potential vulnerability of the energy-intensive systems of food and fiber production which now characterize U.S. agriculture. During the past 40 years, conventional agriculture has become increasingly dependent upon petroleum-based, chemically-synthesized fertilizers and pesticides to supply plant nutrients and for crop protection. Certainly these energy-intensive technologies have contributed greatly to the U.S.'s agricultural productivity. However, sharply escalating production costs associated with the increasing cost and uncertain availability of energy, i.e. fuel and fertilizers, have generated considerable interest in less expensive and more environmentally compatible production alternatives such as organic farming. The apparent decline in soil productivity throughout the U.S. from excessive soil erosion, nutrient runoff, and loss of soil organic matter; the impairment of environmental quality from sedimentation and pollution of natural waters by agricultural chemicals; and, the potential hazards to human and animal health and food safety from heavy use of pesticides, have also stimulated interest in organic farming systems of food production. This article describes and analyzes the agronomic and socioeconomic character of organic farming in the U.S. and assesses its future potential contribution to the overall system of food and fiber production in this country and abroad. Clearly, a number of factors, such as future research and education programs, public policies, and the cost and availability of conventional farm production inputs, will greatly influence the rate at which organic farming technologies and management practices are adopted. However, current trends and circumstances indicate that organic farming systems will play an increasingly important role in both U.S. and world agriculture.

Abstract:Abstract(1) It has always been recognised that with the extension of natural-history teaching to schools under the designation of nature-study there was a danger lest the requirements of an exact science should not be maintained. The first of these books gives grounds for such apprehension, because, although it contains much good matter and observational study is made the keynote throughout, there is a lamentable amount of loose writing, some unsatisfactory deductions, several uncertain experiments, and a few mistakes. For instance, the definitions of bulb and epiphytes require emendation; in section 31 it is not shown why roots bend downwards; in section 34 there will certainly be an error in the amount of soil washed away; in section 105 flower buds are required, and in section 107 the word “nearly” vitiates the instructions. With regard to loose writing the following are a few selected quotations:—“When the pollen tube enters the ovule, the tip breaks off”; “pollen grains are cells to the botanist and each is a reproductive body”; “the reason why plants vary is not fully understood at present, but it may be largely due to adaptation, to environment or surroundings”; “the plants which come between the xerophytes and hygrophytes are known as mesophytes.” Nevertheless, as the general scheme of the course is well conceived, it would seem worth while to correct the quoted and similar passages, to revise or replace unsatisfactory experiments, and amplify the information where it is often insufficient.'

Agronomy for Sustainable Development

Abstract:The global impact of agriculture has recently become a major research topic, stressed by the rapid growth of the world population. Agriculture management is indeed influencing the quality of water, air, soil, and biodiversity at the global scale. The main agricultural challenges have already been reviewed, but these reviews did not discuss in detail the adaptations of agricultural techniques to global issues and the research challenges for agronomy. Here, we propose a research planning for global agronomy including the following advices. Agronomists should update their research objects, methods, and tools to address global issues. Yield trends and variations among various regions should be analyzed to understand the sources of these variations. Crop model simulations should be upscaled to estimate potential yields and to assess the effect of climate change and resource scarcity at the global scale. Advanced methods should analyze output uncertainty of complex models used at a global scale. Indeed various global models are actually used, but these models are too complex and the output uncertainty is difficult to analyze. The meta-analysis of published data is a promising approach for addressing global issues, though meta-analysis must be applied carefully with appropriate techniques. Finally, global datasets on the performance and environmental impact of cropping systems should be developed to allow agronomists to identify promising cropping systems.

Abstract:This book discusses the most challenging task ahead of researchers from India and around the globe: providing disease-free field crops for the ever-growing world population. In Asia, despite being cultivated in massive volumes, major crops, including cereals, oil seed, tuber and non-tuber vegetables, and fruit, are not meeting the demands of the increasing population. Abstract:Abstract This book provides an overview of the potential role of organic agriculture in a global perspective.
