Abstract:Growing awareness of environmental costs associated with many systems of agricultural production has been paralleled by increased breadth and sophistication in environmental economics. In North America and Western Europe, in particular, this has led to steps to incorporate measures to control environmental externalities into policies for the support and regulation of agriculture; a measure of ‘greening’ has taken place in agricultural policy. In many lessdeveloped countries (LDCs) environmental issues relating to land use are even more pressing than in the industrial nations, but, as a generalisation, the central focus of concern is at a different end of the range of problems. For whereas in the industrial countries of the temperate zones, the problems of large-scale erosion and destruction of the land base are generally less pressing,1 these are urgent issues in some LDCs. On the other hand, in industrial countries there is more concern about the external costs of agriculture associated with pollution of water systems, insecticide residues, and with the degradation of the ‘wild’ environment as land is managed ever more intensively for agriculture and forestry. In addition, there is serious pollution of agriculture from the by-products of industry and urban living, particularly by ‘acid rain’.

Abstract:Purpose: The aim of the study is to examine the effects of agriculture on environment. Methodology: This study adopted a desktop methodology. This study used secondary data from which include review of existing literature from already published studies and reports that was easily accessed through online journals and libraries. Findings: The study found that human involvement in agriculture has a negative impact on the physical environment leading to issues like soil erosion, loss of land cover, water pollution and air pollution. These activities include building residential structures, building public infrastructure, and engaging in agriculture. Unique Contribution to Theory, Practice and Policy: The conservation model and diffusion model served as the study's pillars. This study suggests that project managers for agricultural development make sure that environmental concerns are addressed as a project gains momentum through implementation and that the Environment Impact Assessment process takes into account environmental issues raised when a project or plan is first discussed.

Abstract:Climate change, the population explosion and the growing demand for good food and health require better, more reliable and more efficient. The different shape, size, composition and ability to interact with organic compounds make nanomaterials and technology widely used. Nano formulations and their applications in agriculture in the form of agrochemicals for crop protection, toxicity identification by nanobiosensors, genetic manipulation of plants treated by nanodevices, and rapid and efficient diseases of plants. The delivery of genetic material and proteins via nano-arrays has been proven in crop engineering, drug delivery and environmental monitoring. Nanotechnology also benefits the food industry by improving all stages of food production from food processing to production, processing, packaging, safety, extending shelf life, testing for disease and creating smart foods. Therefore, technology can meet the needs of most consumers, including the improvement of food products and their sensations, and can improve product quality, texture soft and nutritious food without affecting its natural properties.

Abstract:Agriculture dominates the planet. Yet it has many environmental costs that are unsustainable, especially as global food demand rises. Here, we evaluate ways in which different parts of the world are succeeding in their attempts to resolve conflict between agriculture and wild nature. We envision that coordinated global action in conserving land most sensitive to agricultural activities and policies that internalise the environmental costs of agriculture are needed to deliver a more sustainable future.

Abstract:Agricultural land-use change is a dynamic process that varies as a function of social, economic and environmental factors spanning from the local to the global scale. The cumulative regional impacts of these factors on land use adoption decisions by farmers are neither well accounted for nor reflected in agricultural land use planning. We present an innovative spatially explicit agent-based modelling approach (Crop GIS-ABM) that accounts for factors involved in farmer decision making on new irrigation adoption to enable land-use predictions and exploration. The model was designed using a participatory approach, capturing stakeholder insights in a conceptual model of farmer decisions. We demonstrate a case study of the factors influencing the uptake of new irrigation infrastructure and land use in Tasmania, Australia. The model demonstrates how irrigated land-use expansion promotes the diffusion of alternative crops in the region, as well as how coupled social, biophysical and environmental conditions play an important role in crop selection. Our study shows that agricultural land use reflected the evolution of multiple simultaneous interacting biophysical and socio-economic drivers, including soil and climate type, crop and commodity prices, and the accumulated effects of interactive decisions of farmers.

Abstract:Agriculture provides economic opportunity through innovation; helps rural America to thrive; promotes agricultural production that better nourishes Americans; and aims to preserve natural resources through healthy private working lands, conservation, improved watersheds, and restored forests. From agricultural production to food supply, agriculture supports rural and urban economies across the U.S. It accounts for 10% of U.S. jobs and is currently creating new jobs in the growing field of data-driven farming. However, U.S. global competitiveness associated with food and nutrition security is at risk because of accelerated investments by many other countries in agriculture, food, energy, and resource management. To ensure U.S. global competitiveness and long-term food security, it is imperative that we build sustainable physical and cyber infrastructures to enable self-managing and sustainable farming. Such infrastructures should enable next generation precision-farms by harnessing modern and emerging technologies such as small satellites, broadband Internet, tele-operation, augmented reality, advanced data analytics, sensors, and robotics.

Abstract:This review has been necessary to bring together and interpret much of the diverse literature relating to the key areas of environmental impact associated with agriculture. The main environmental impacts of agriculture in the United Kingdom are associated with pesticides, nitrogen compounds, farm livestock wastes and soil erosion. Impacts on fauna and flora, water bodies and humans, as well as the economic costs (e.g. those involved in reducing levels of pollutants in water bodies) are considered within this paper. Agricultural activities, particularly those associated with emissions to the air and water, can have significant effects many kilometres from their place of origin. There may also be inter-related impacts. For example, pollution incidents which directly affect aquatic populations can indirectly influence recreational activities, and may have economic effects in the form of remedial water treatment and clean-up costs. It is important that management techniques and systems are developed to reduce detrimental environmental impacts associated with agriculture. The information outlined in this paper has been used to assist in the design of an integrated computer-based system to support environmental management in agriculture.
