Abstract:The engineering communities are mostly interested to a lateral load-resisting system with both ductility and high stiffness against lateral loads while also being repairable after a sever earthquake. For this purpose, the linked column frame system as a new structural system, in which short beams are placed between two close columns, is propsed. The proposed system is a dual system consisting of two parts: the primary lateral load-resisting system composed of linked columns and the secondary moment frame system, which are integrated together to resist lateral loads. These link beams, by providing high ductility capacity, were responsible for absorbing and dissipating energy, thereby significantly increasing the structure's capacity. Moreover, due to the replaceability of the connections, the structure also possesses the ability to quickly return to serviceability conditions after a sever earthquake. In the present research, performance of this system in controlling the vibration of buildings with irregular plan have been investigated. For this purpose, three irregular buildings in plan with a height of 3, 6 and 9-story have been designed as the basic models, then different models have been made by changing the configuration of the linked bays. According to the obtained results under nonlinear time history analysis, it is found that the average percentage reduction of the story's maximum displacement responses for 3-story building is 56%, 6-story building is 36%, and 9-story building with one more linked bay is 44%.
