Abstract:The MnCoNiFeCu high-entropy alloy (HEA) as the precursor is successfully synthesized into a dense spinel-based coating on the AISI 441 interconnect via reactive sintering at 900 degrees C in air for 2 h. Both bare interconnect and coated samples are oxidized for 500 h in air at 700 and 850 degrees C, respectively. Phase composition, surface morphology evolution, area-specific resistance (ASR) behavior and cross-sectional microstructure of the tested samples are evaluated. Additionally, Ce element is infiltrated into the coating to further improve the coating performance. The Ce-containing coated samples after 500-h oxidation at 700 and 850 degrees C exhibit the lowest ASRs of 16.50 and 23.38 m Omega center dot cm2 at 800 degrees C, respectively. The effectiveness of the coating in inhibiting Cr migration is also assessed.
