Abstract:In this study, an Inconel 600 alloy was successfully brazed using a Cu-Mn-Ni filler. The heat transfer characteristics of brazed joints were investigated for the first time. The evolution of the joint microstructure and its properties were also studied. A joint microstructure with Cu (s,s) as the matrix phase and no intermetallic compounds was beneficial for heat transfer across the joint. The joint shear strength is stable at similar to 500 MPa for brazing from 1050 degrees C to 1125 degrees C. The joint high temperature shear strength is still up to 138 MPa for testing at 800 degrees C. Increasing the test temperature weakened the scattering of free electrons by the solute atoms, thereby increasing the thermal conductivity of the joints. The best heat transfer performance of joints is obtained at 1125 degrees C/10 min, and the joint thermal conductivity increases from 28.5 W/m.k (750 degrees C) to 31.6 W/m.k (950 degrees C). After brazing, metallurgical joining was achieved, completely eliminating the interfacial gaps between the two Inconel 600 components. The thermal resistance of brazed joints is 6.701 mm(2).K/W, which is only 0.815 % of the interfacial thermal resistance in the contact state (822.602 mm(2).K/W), indicating a significant improvement in the thermal conductivity performance across the joint.
