Abstract:The nanocrystalline ferrites Zn0.4Ni0.6Cr0.5LaxFe1.5-xO4 (x=0 similar to 0.10) were prepared with citrate precursor by sol-gel process. The thermolysis process of translating citrate precursor into crystalline was analyzed by means of DSC-TG. The structure, morphology and magnetic properties of the obtained products were characterized by X-ray diffractometer (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM), respectively. The results show that the temperature and the content of doped La have an obvious effect on the crystallite sizes, lattice parameter and morphology of samples. The magnetic properties of the samples can be also tailored by varying the content of La.

Abstract:Ferromagnetic zinc ferrite nanocrystals at ambient temperature were synthesized via the thermal decomposition of metal-surfactant complexes. Characterization measurements including transmission electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction were performed for as-synthesized ZnFe2O4 particles. The sample has a relatively narrow size distribution with an average particle size of 9.8 +/- 0.2 nm and standard deviation of 30%. The as-synthesized zinc ferrite nanocrystals are superparamagnetic at room temperature with a blocking temperature T-B = 68 +/- 2 K and a saturation magnetization M-S = 65.4 emu center dot g(-1) at T = 10 K, which are caused by the change in the inversion degree of the spinel structure. A coercive field of H-C = 102 +/- 5 Oe in the blocked state indicates small particle anisotropy, although evidence of surface spin canting was inferred from magnetization data in the as-synthesized ZnFe2O4 nanocrystals. Our results demonstrate that magnetic properties of magnetic particles can be largely modified by just changing particle size, which might be a useful way to design novel magnetic materials.

Abstract:Spinel ferrite Cu1-xZnxFe2O4 nanofibers over a compositional range 0 < x < 1 were prepared by electrospinning combined with sol-gel method. The influence of Zn2+ ions substitution on morphology, structure, and magnetic properties of copper ferrite has been investigated. The results show that surface of CuFe2O4 nanofibers consists of small open porosity, while surface of doped nanofibers reveals smooth and densified nature. With increasing Zn substitution, saturation magnetization initially increases and then decreases with a maximum value of 58.4 emu/g at x = 0.4, coercivity and square ratio all decrease. The influence of substitution on magnetic properties is related with the cation distraction and exchange interactions between spinel lattices.

Abstract:Nanocrystallites of spinel ZnCrFeO4 were synthesized through sol–gel method, and were characterized by X-ray diffractometer (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), SQUID magnetometer and Mössbauer spectrometer. It is found that the nanocrystallites are spherical and show antiferromagnetism with a higher TN of 14 K for the sample with diameter of 14 nm and larger magnetic susceptibility than the bulk sample. These are associated with some A ions (Zn2+) and B ions (Fe3+, Cr3+) jumped to each other sites, which therefore enhances both the A–B interaction and B–B interaction. The Mössbauer spectrum of the nanomaterial is different from that of the bulk sample. Additional sextet appears in the Mössbauer spectrum of the nanomaterial except for a doublet. The appearance of the sextet suggests the magnetically ordered state between Fe3+ ions at A and B sites.

Abstract:Zn-doped magnetite Fe3O4 samples were prepared at different doped concentrations and annealed at high temperature in ambient air and N2 respectively.X-ray diffraction(XRD)results showed that samples annealed in air were oxidized and the consequent products were partially in α-Fe2O3 form.While for the samples annealed in N2,ZnxFe3-xO4 products of high purity were obtained.The doping of Zn2+ on the tetrahedral sites(A sites)changed the valence distribution of Fe2+ ions on the octahedral sites(B sites).The electron transporting mechanism remained to be variable range hopping(VRH)conduction.Measurement results of magnetic properties indicated that the super exchange coupling interaction between Fe2+ ions was affected by the low doping concentration of Zn2+ ions in the crystal,and the negative magnetoresistivity of ZnxFe3-xO4 was improved as well.

Abstract:ZnFe2O4 nanocubes with high magnetization were prepared by a hydrothermal method. The structural, optical, morphology, and magnetic properties were investigated. The as-prepared sample exhibited a uniform cubic morphology with a high-saturation magnetization of 94.6 emu/g, therefore, can be easily collected from an aqueous solution using a magnet. Further investigation on the photocatalytic degradation of chlorotetracycline (CTC) using ZnFe2O4 nanocubes revealed a good photodegradation performance in a visible light/H2O2 system. The degradation efficiency of the ZnFe2O4 nanocubes on CTC remains above 45% even after three recycling circles. Therefore, the hydrothermally prepared ZnFe2O4 nanocubes can be considered as a promising magnetically retrievable photocatalyst under visible light irradiation.

Abstract:ZnFe2O4/α-Fe2O3 composite hollow nanospheres were successfully fabricated via a facile one-pot solvothermal method, utilizing polyethylene glycol as soft template. X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy analysis revealed that the prepared nanospheres with cubic spinel and rhombohedra composite structure had a uniform diameter of about 370nm, and the hollow structure could be further confirmed by transmission electron microscopy. Energy dispersive X-ray, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and Fourier transform infrared techniques were also applied to characterize the elemental composition and chemical bonds in the hollow nanospheres. The ZnFe2O4/α-Fe2O3 composite hollow nanospheres show attractive light absorption property for potential applications in electronics, optics, and catalysis.

Abstract:The cubic spinel ZnCo2O4 nanostructures with different novel shapes have been purposefully fabricated in an efficient hydrothermal synthetic platform by just tuning reaction temperature. XRD, FTIR, SEM, Raman scattering, and M–H curves were used to analyze the samples. With the decrease of hydrothermal temperature, the morphology has an obvious transformation from hierarchical microsphere to finally loosened nanosphere, an obvious blue shifting of Raman spectrum happened and the samples transform from paramagnetic behavior to ferromagnetic. The elevated Hc may be attributed to the size effect, surface spin disorder, and shape anisotropy.

Abstract:By carefully controlling the reaction conditions, nanowires of Fe3O4 are directly acquired from nanowires of α-Fe2O3 in a reduced atmosphere at 410–430°C. X-ray diffraction, Raman spectrum, and transmission electron microscopic analyses demonstrate that the product is single-crystalline Fe3O4. The nanowires have diameters of 40–90nm and lengths of 10–20μm, which are close to those of the pristine α-Fe2O3 nanowires. By studying different growth conditions, we find that hydrogen can push the conversion of the crystal structures, while temperature determines the chemical composition of the final products. The magnetic properties of as-prepared Fe3O4 nanowires are measured using a quantum design magnetic property measurement system. The nanowires show a ferrimagnetic behavior at room temperature and their magnetic properties are strongly influenced by surface and interface effects. The Verwey transition temperature (TV=116K) is found to be a little lower than that of bulk materials, which can be attributed to the small deviation from stoichiometry caused by the oxygen vacancies near the surfaces. Below 12K, the nanowires show a spin-glass-like behavior owing to the disordered frozen magnetic state at the surfaces.

Abstract:Fe ions of dose 8x10(16) cm(-2) are implanted into a ZnO single crystal at 180 keV. Annealing at 1073 K leads to the formation of zinc ferrite (ZnFe2O4), which is verified by synchrotron radiation X-ray diffraction (SR-XRD) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The crystallographically oriented ZnFe2O4 is formed inside the ZnO with the orientation relationship of ZnFe2O4 (111)//ZnO (0001). Superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) measurements show that the as-implanted and post-annealing samples are both ferromagnetic at 5 K. The synthesized ZnFe2O4 is superparamagnetic, with a blocking temperature (T-B = 25 K), indicated by zero field cooling and field cooling (ZFC/FC) measurements.

Abstract:Zn-doped CoFe 2 O 4 nanoparticles were prepared via a modified polyacrylamide gel method. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Fourier transform infrared spectrometer (FTIR) data reveal the formation of cubic spinel phase Co 1−x Zn x Fe 2 O 4 (x = 0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, 0.5) with average crystallite sizes from 57 to 44 nm. X-ray photoelectron spectrometer (XPS) result declares the compositional stoichiometry and atomic ratios of Co to Zn. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images show that the nanoparticles are prone to clustering via agglomeration. High crystallinity and elemental uniformity are demonstrated by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) technique. Ultraviolet–Visible (UV–Vis) diffuse refectance spectroscopy (DRS) measurements determine the optical band gaps from 1.46 to 1.57 eV. The hysteresis loops exhibit that all the products have a ferromagnetic behavior. The concentration of Zn 2+ doping strikingly affects magnetic properties. The saturation magnetization (M s ) reaches a maximum value of 79 emu/g at x = 0.2. Both coercivity (H c ) and remanent magnetization (M r ) reduce with increasing content of Zn 2+ . The variation mechanism of magnetic properties is discussed. This work will provide a valuable reference for synthesizing doped cobalt ferrite and tuning magnetic properties.

Abstract:Electrospinning, a general synthetic method, has been adopted to fabricate and assemble room‐temperature ferromagnetic diluted magnetic semiconductor nanofibers. Employing electrospinning technique followed by calcination and annealing process, we have successfully prepared uniform Co‐doped ZnO nanofibers with concentrations of Co between 0 and 15.0 at.%. And the solubility limit of Co dopant in ZnO nanofibers has been determined. The Zn1−xCoxO nanofibers annealed in hydrogen atmosphere exhibit ferromagnetism at 300 K, deviating from paramagnetism in the ones that were without annealing. Hence, the ferromagnetism in these fibers depends on not only Co addition but also the annealing process. Moreover, both coercive field and saturation magnetization increase along with the Co content. The ultimate coercive field and saturation magnetization are 610 Oe and 0.336 μB/Co of Zn0.85Co0.15O nanofibers, respectively. Origin of the observed enhanced room‐temperature ferromagnetism in Zn1−xCoxO nanofibers is analyzed according to the detailed micro‐structural characterization.

Abstract:Co-doped ZnO single-crystalline nanorods with 80–100nm in diameter and 1.5–2μm in length have been prepared in a simple solution route. X-ray diffraction data and selected area electron diffraction pattern of the diluted magnetic semiconductor nanorods confirm the single crystallinity of Zn1−xCoxO solid solution without impurities of metallic Co or other phases. Magnetic results show that the Zn0.95Co0.05O nanorods exhibit a ferromagnetic characteristic with Curie temperature higher than 380K. The high-temperature ferromagnetic properties allow this Zn1−xCoxO nanorods potential applications in future spintronic devices.

Abstract:We report the structural and magnetic properties of zinc-nickel ferrites (ZNF), Zn1−x Ni x Fe2O4, nanoparticles synthesized by the hydrothermal method with 0.0 ≤ x ≤ 1.0. The X-ray powder diffraction of Zn1−x Ni x Fe2O4 shows the formation of a single spinel phase of ZnFe2O4 or NiFe2O4. The lattice parameter and unit cell volume decreased slightly as the x ratio increased, whereas the average crystallite size ranged from 9.55 to 22.7 nm. The nanoparticles’ morphology consists of small cubic and spherical particles with an average size increasing up to x = 0.6 and dropping at further increases of x. The assigned peaks obtained by the Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy at 556–592 cm−1 verified the formation of metal (Zn, Ni, and Fe) oxides. The surface area, pore radius, and total pore volume were estimated using the Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) and Barrett-Joyner-Halenda (BJH) theories and found to be dependent on the composition of the synthesized nanoferrites. Interestingly, we observed the largest surface area, S BET, of 264 ± 28 m2 g−1 at x = 0.6, which is three times higher than the other samples. The Zn1−x Ni x Fe2O4 nanoferrites exhibited ferromagnetic behavior at room temperature with a saturation magnetization between 30.3 ± 0.01 and 126 ± 0.07 emu g−1. We found a possible link between maximum retentivity, corrective filed, and squareness with the surface area, especially at x = 0.6. The magnetic behavior at x = 0.4 could be attributed to the sample’s larger crystallite/particle sizes as compared to the other samples. Our results of the synthesized Zn1−x Ni x Fe2O4 nanoparticles demonstrate the wide applicability of the ZNF nanostructures in magnetic storage as well as other applications that demand ferrite materials with a larger surface area.

Abstract:Well crystallized ZnFe2O4 ultrafine particles with octahedral shape and a size of 300nm were prepared by a hydrothermal reaction using metal Zn sheet and FeCl2 as reactants in ammonia solutions at 180°C. As-prepared ferrite particles display high magnetization with maximum saturation magnetization (σmax) 61.2emgg−1 at 80K and 54.6emgg−1 at 300K, respectively. The results demonstrated that hydrothermal process is an effective pathway for producing high quality ferrite ultrafine particles.

Abstract:The Zinc Nickel Cobalt Ferrite (ZNCF) Zn0.95−xNi0.05CoxFe2O4, for x= 0.01, 0.02, 0.03, 0.04, 0.05 and 0.06 were prepared by co-precipitation. XRD patterns show spinel ferrite with a cubic structure. The lattice parameter was found to increase linearly with cobalt concentration (x). FESEM gave the grain sizes in the range 1.61-1.38nm and particle size in the range 28-21 nm for x = 0.01 to 0.06. The porosity was in the range 92.6-92.9 %. The occupancy of metal ions in the two interstitial sites affects the exchange interaction. The higher grain size and lower porosity have a positive impact on magnetic saturation which makes them applicable in recording media.
